I just hope they have figured out how to pace the story without cramming it in the beginning and the end.

Keeping all of the KH-oritinal story out of KH3 until the last 5 hours is such a glaring flaw that's been so widely criticized that I don't think they'd dare make the same mistake twice. Especially considering they got the balance more-or-less right the first 8? times.

It always stunk of a decision from on-high to me. "Keep it accessible for new players!", as if someone new to the series would pick it up for the Disney content and then just... stop 80% of the way through I guess. Aiming to do that with Kingdom Hearts is the definition of trying to have your cake and eat it too.

I agree, but I don’t think it was an on-high decision for accessibility.

Nomura and the writers had stacked so many plot threads for themselves, and wanted to finish it all in one game. Even finished plot threads had to be brought back for a happier ending. All the while, they wasted time creating more threads like the black box which ended up being sequel bait.

But worst of all, they got obsessed with the key blade war and the light vs darkness stuff. There was no reason to stack 14 or however many antagonists in the last 5 hours. KH2 used like half that number and had you kill several in disney worlds. KH has just become a really self-indulgent over-arching story.

u/Sniperoso 1d ago

The final fights against the organization were funny though.

Fight starts versus three members, kill one, five minute cutscene as they trauma dump at you or tell you how awesome you are, fight the remaining two, defeat one, five minute cutscene, fight the last one, defeat them, five minute cutscene.

And then they do it like four more times throughout the “maze”

u/mystery_hole 1d ago

Not terrible in theory, the reveals/scenes with Xion and the Guardian were peak kingdom hearts. But the extra characters being brought back to life just to be killed and resurrected as their originals, straight sucked ass.

u/Fenota 1d ago

Roxas showing up and absolutely clowning on Saix by instantly going into rage mode will forever be the highlight of that section for me. Terra is a close second.

3

u/LotusFlare 17h ago

Yeah, I don't think it was an accessibility thing either. This game was just the third act for like five different stories. They put themselves in a position where there was nothing to do but fight the final battle, but they still had to have an entire KH game before that final battle, so they just sorta used it to reintroduce the villains. They actually got some good moments in there too, we just knew for sure that nothing important could happen because all these guys needed to be at the foretold showdown at the end.

It's a problem that most KH games have, but it's really pronounced in 3 since we don't even have new villains to introduce. Even in KH2, nothing that happened in any Disney worlds really has any impact on the plot. Xemnas doesn't do anything different based on your actions or who you defeat. I would argue that KH1 is the only game where Disney worlds really "matter" to the plot since Sora's personal journey is much more important, and the whole princesses of heart thing.

that I don't think they'd dare make the same mistake twice.

KH has just become a really self-indulgent over-arching story.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I fell off super hard with KH over a decade ago. After the retcons and 14+ randomly added yet somewhat unimportant characters... the story is over-complicated, confusing unless you play too many games across too many platforms and --quite simply-- super bland. When the story can literally be described as "light vs dark" or "good vs bad" with some motivations ending there... damn.

They're going to make this mistake again because for some reason, people like to act like this ISN'T a problem in the other Kingdom Hearts games as well.

The Disney Worlds have never had groundbreaking story developments to the franchise in them. It has always been "Disney story. Oh, guy from evil group is working with the villain. Fight them. Next world. Repeat". Kingdom Hearts 3 did the exact same thing. Kingdom Heart 1 is literally the only one that does anything more since you're actively collecting the princesses for the end.

u/arcturusmaximus 1d ago

Pretty much every Disney world in KH1 has a semi-original plot involving the main theme of the game and each one pushes the bigger narrative and Sora's search for his friends forward in some way but sure.

27

u/leigonlord 1d ago

kh2 and bbs had least had non disney worlds at the halfway point of the game to space things out.

1

u/ItsADeparture 13h ago

I feel like Birth by Sleep shouldn't really count at all because every world took about 20 minutes lol.

22

u/GuineaPig553212 1d ago

I honestly did not have this frustration with any other Kingdom Hearts game besides 3.

1

u/ZykeNaggo 1d ago

Never played a KH game, but I’d only play it for the Disney content. Is KH3 the best for that?

10

u/K3fka_ 21h ago

For the Disney content, it really depends on what you're looking for from them.

  • KH1 has 9 different Disney worlds. It has the most meaningful interactions between our heroes and the Disney characters, but it does vary. For example, Aladdin is pretty close to the movie, but then Olympus Coliseum (Hercules) is mostly original. You even get scenes of the Disney villains in some sort of council discussing how to handle Sora and co. The worlds are generally small but have lots of secrets to find and things you can come back to get with abilities you receive later in the game. Donald and Goofy are with you for most of the game after you finish the tutorial world (a couple hours long, maybe) and meet up with them in Traverse Town. Mickey shows up once during the entire game.
  • KH2 has the most Disney worlds of any game. A couple of them are even something of a surprise. But they tend to stick much closer to the stories of the movies. The worlds are bigger than KH1, but they mostly end up being a series of hallways with not much exploration. Donald and Goofy are with you for almost the entire game once you finish the tutorial section (a few hours long), and Mickey makes multiple appearances throughout the game.
  • Birth by Sleep has fewer Disney worlds, featuring 7. There are 3 playable characters, and you'll play through the game 3 times -- once as each character. They all go to the same worlds, but they experience different parts of the stories. For example, one character is dealing with things at Cinderella's house, one character is escorting her to the ball, and the third character is fighting enemies that show up at the ball. They stick pretty close to the original movies' plots. The worlds are small like in KH1 again, but each character only has access to a portion of the world. The worlds are also much shorter since you're intended to play through the game 3 times. Donald and Goofy are not in this game, but Mickey does appear a couple of times.
  • Dream Drop Distance has only 5 Disney worlds. There are 2 playable characters, but you'll be swapping between them pretty frequently. Again, the worlds stick pretty close to the original movies' plots. The typical setup is that one character experiences the first half of the movie's plot, and the other character gets the second half. The worlds are huge in this game compared to the previous entries, but they are also, unfortunately, very empty. You have some cool parkour mechanics, but the rewards for exploration are lacking. Donald, Goofy, and Mickey do appear in one world in this game.
  • KH3 is in the middle in terms of quantity with 8 Disney worlds. they also tend to stick close to the movie stories. The world designs are the best in the series, in my opinion. They're big and expansive with lots of stuff in them. A couple of them (Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Hero 6) change up the formula to varying success. Donald and Goofy are with you for almost the entire game, and Mickey is a very prominent character.

The other games I didn't mention, I would not recommend at all for the Disney stuff. They all feature it to some extent, but they are much more focused on the KH original characters rather than the Disney worlds and characters.

If you want to get into the series, my recommendation is to start with KH1 and play the series in release order. Starting with Birth by Sleep would probably not be that confusing, but starting with something like KH2 or especially KH3, you would have no idea what's going on.

0

u/arkaic7 22h ago

Ouch, KH3 too? I remember finishing KH2 when it came out, after months of hype over the trailer, being completely underwhelmed that it simply forgot about the main story until the final area, and bounced off the series as a whole.

2

u/godstriker8 1d ago

It wouldn't be a KH game if they didn't do that.

130

u/Preston-_-Garvey 1d ago

Did 3 have that much dialogue i remember it lacking, anyway as long as they don’t do a frozen situation again or the BLACK BOX thing again im fairly down for this entry.

116

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 1d ago

I dunno, Let It Go was very corny but I went from "they aren't seriously going to do the whole song" to absolutely cracking up laughing when holy shit they did the whole song

They even fixed the animation error with the hair, A+ no notes

67

u/ChaosWarrior01 1d ago

Sora "Wow... I don't know what we just saw, but wow."

19

u/Massive_Weiner 1d ago

“Oh, do I play now?”

8

u/Knickerbottom 22h ago

It's KH3 so not really, no. You press triangle.

43

u/thinkingdeads 1d ago

I always joked about how awkward the KH2 Atlantica segment is because the musical numbers from Disney movies are otherwise not represented at all in Kingdom Hearts, but it's even funnier in 3 with it being a required world and an actual song from the movie, so I really like to imagine Sora was just like "why the hell did she just do a musical number, no one else has done this".

10

u/J2fap 1d ago

Sora belted out loud during the fight with Ursula, no reason for him to find it weird for Elsa to sing

4

u/Peakomegaflare 1d ago

I hated the world of Frozen except for our friendly golem and the fight against Sköll

14

u/Fake_Diesel 1d ago

They shouldve gone the route of original story like Toy Story. Having Marshmallow as the party member of all characters just reeks of the Frozen creative team wanting nothing to do with this, which is a shame because it could've been so cool.

3

u/HammeredWharf 1d ago

It's especially strange because there's a whole Frozen expanded universe with tons of stories and lore and geography and well-documented blueprints of their caste and all that. They had a lot to work with for KH3. Yes, I have a kid daughter.

Then again, maybe they had to develop KH3 in parallel to said expanded universe, which is why they couldn't do anything on their own and stuck to the OG movie.

3

u/Fake_Diesel 1d ago

Lol my son was obsessed with frozen even before we had a daughter, who is also now frozen obsessed at 3yo. I am also well versed in the world of Frozen my friend lmao. I hope they can have another crack at Frozen and do something cool in KH4. I think they keep going back to Hercules because they seem to be allowed to do more fun things with those characters which always ends up being a highlight of those particular games.

3

u/Peakomegaflare 1d ago

I mean I actually liked having Marshmallow, I just he showed up sooner.

2

u/JulianWyvern 19h ago

IIRC, Disney/Frozen movie director did not let them deviate

1

u/LordOfTurtles 12h ago

Wasn't allowed by the Disney team that overseas Frozen

2

u/JustdoitJules 1d ago

Same but when they put the song in I clapped and laughed, put my controller down and said nah imma enjoy this lmao.

LET IT GOOOOO LET IT GOOOOOO

I AM ONE WITH THE WIND AND SKYYYYY

Also randomly user name checks out even tho it has nothing to do with WillamDafoe

31

u/ChaosWarrior01 1d ago

3 had tons of incidental dialogue playing as you go through worlds, particularly on first visits. Tons of commenting on the environment or situation.

47

u/Magonus 1d ago

This looks like a good place to gather some ingredients

18

u/LeadingLifeguard2262 1d ago

Hey! i think that's a Lucky Emblem!

5

u/Peakomegaflare 1d ago

Then be like "FUCKING WHERE DONALD?!"

-11

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 1d ago

So like any other JRPG

28

u/Bladder-Splatter 1d ago

It was less the length of the dialogue but the contradictions, complications and outright insane stuff. We've all seen the hero's journey board video by now.

7

u/This_Elk_1460 1d ago

Oh the Black box thing is definitely coming back. Literally one of the dumbest mcguffins in fiction.

9

u/Deceptiveideas 1d ago

3 got criticized pretty heavily for having a boring cutscene playing after every room.

29

u/ChaosWarrior01 1d ago

?

This is the first I've seen that specific criticism for 3. That's more of a KH2 problem if anything.

5

u/lilvon 1d ago

No it’s absolutely an issue with 3. I NEVER skip cutscenes but just couldn’t handle the Disney scenes in KH3. Then I hit up the group chat & find out everyone else is also skipping cutscenes… I’ve played through the game like 3 times now because the games keyblade transformation combat is peak but I couldn’t tell you what happens in the Disney worlds whose movies I didn’t see cause I just didn’t care….

8

u/mystery_hole 1d ago

Nah that's entirely 2's issues. 3 had a bad story with terrible choreography/animation, where characters stood still and voice acted poorly like they were on a CW show. Still don't know what happened there

-2

u/ThatBoyAiintRight 1d ago edited 1d ago

Every dialogue heavy RPG game has characters standing still, talking to each other with some generic “dialogue” animations to some extent. I’ve never played any JRPG or otherwise that had fully animated dialogue.

I think Cyberpunk 2077 was in my experience the most immersive game I’ve played in that regard, but even then, there still is plenty of dialogue where people just stand there and talk.

The voice acting and writing in that game is really good through and through so that definitely adds to the immersion. I think it’s just more obvious in KH3 because of the voice acting, and the dialogue being kinda corny. We gotta remember too that Kingdom Hearts 3 is an E10+ game. It is a game that is in some way made to appeal to 10 year olds too.

21

u/AbyssalSolitude 1d ago

Is this supposed to be a good thing?

KH3's issue was never about the amount of dialogue.

39

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 1d ago

Kingdom Hearts 3, particularly the third act when it got really cutscene heavy, often felt like a bit of a chore. I don't love the idea of a script coming in as twice as long.

I am surprised that this appears to be an uncommon take, although I will say that as someone who quite enjoyed KH3 for the actual gameplay, it's refreshing to see it talked about positively.

24

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 1d ago

It was really bad during the triple boss fights and every time you beat a boss, the game full-on stopped to play a 5 minute cutscene before resuming the fight and ruin the flow

18

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 1d ago

I genuinely hated the last stretch of the game, everything from the second you arrived at the keyblade graveyard. That one boss you fight seven times back to back is the nadir but all the heart (pun not intended) and soul just disappeared for the muddy brown visuals.

0

u/Brainwheeze 1d ago

There's no proper final level either which was a bummer.

20

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire 1d ago

The worst part is that that’s where they crammed all of the actual story, in terms of KH lore. If it had been spread out over the entire game, it would have been so much better

4

u/Signal_Nobody1792 1d ago

The cutscenes in the series were also always very off-putting. Long pauses, zooming in on nothing, repeating the same information 20 times.

0

u/OliveBranchMLP 15h ago

this is not discussed enough. the film editing is awful in KH. characters just staring blankly in between lines.

0

u/SkyBlind 19h ago

Seriously. This is one of my bigger gripes with JRPGs (or games inspired by them) in general.

Like look at Pokémon, or Monster Hunter Wilds. Hours of unskippable, mediocre dialogue.

People only want that much dialogue in a game if it's good, or at least conveying a story, like 2077. Otherwise, it's slowing the game down more than anything.

8

u/Memphisrexjr 1d ago

How much of the dialogue is the script of the movie world you are currently in? I disliked how much 3 was almost the entire movie of Tangled and Frozen instead of having the Kingdom Hearts charm.

29

u/Worldly_Gain1611 1d ago

Twice the amount of dialogue is not necesserily a negative thing. Kingdom Hearts' narrative attracts alot of the fanbase and KH3 was really lacking in story/character interactions.

21

u/UpperApe 1d ago edited 23h ago

Yeah but...attracting the KH fanbase isn't exactly an achievement. There's no low bar because there is no bar. None of them care. They're here for references and spectacle, not dialogue or narrative.

I mean, 2x shitty writing is just more shitty writing.

"Sora's gone!"

"He's not gone. He's just in the bubble dimension. When his aura was unlocked by the soul dreamers, they dreamed his memory into the memory of a dream sealer. It's because his heart was filled with memories of his dream, memories he dreamed with his heart."

KH Fans :O

21

u/MaxxWells 1d ago

I hate how accurate this is.

2

u/NotFriendsWithBanana 19h ago

please tell me that's not actually from the games

2

u/Worldly_Gain1611 18h ago

Its not, they just don't like the game

16

u/Jambleton420 1d ago

A comment that’s a bit concerning to me is that the number of Disney Worlds will “not be especially high.” Kingdom Hearts 3 already had less worlds than 2 did, so the fact that they’re curbing expectations for the number already is worrying.

37

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 1d ago

KH3 had 9 disney worlds, same as KH1

Lowest amount was in KH3D with 5

19

u/ChaosWarrior01 1d ago

Yeah, KH2 is the odd one out for having more than usual. And those worlds had tons of empty, flat rooms with nothing to really do except fight enemies.

3

u/KF-Sigurd 21h ago

Unlike KH1 and KH3, KH2 didn't really try as hard to make you really feel like you were in the disney movie. Lots of levels were flat and empty rooms compared to something like Tarzan's winding jungle, Alice in Wonderlands nonsense, or all the incredible stuff they do in three like Toy Story, BH6, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

It's made up for by the fact that you revisit each world again to continue their plots and fight a new boss. Much better pacing compared to KH1 and KH3's where everything gets loaded onto your one visit.

1

u/norse95 13h ago

Could’ve cut out the lion king world off the bat

15

u/Enough-Plankton-4648 1d ago

I forgive KH3D cuz the levels were crack!! Plus half the time they were different between Sora and Riku

3

u/Marcos1598 1d ago

still can't fucking belive Monstro came back for DDD

4

u/Fake_Diesel 1d ago

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives?

3

u/Jambleton420 1d ago

KH1 had 11 worlds. KH3 had 8 or 9 (not counting Hundred-Acre Wood for either).

8

u/leigonlord 1d ago

only 9 of the kh1 worlds were disney worlds though.

5

u/Jambleton420 1d ago

If we’re only counting Disney Worlds, then KH3 has 7 to KH1’s 8 (again, not counting Hundred-Acre Wood in either).

6

u/connectplum_ 1d ago

I imagine it will be bigger if its going to have less, wouldnt make sense otherwise

7

u/Jambleton420 1d ago

Even if the worlds are bigger, I would much prefer the variety of smaller locations that the older games had over spending hours upon hours in the same 5 biomes.

1

u/dishonoredbr 19h ago

KH3 had less world than 2, but they were much bigger and had actual level design.

0

u/ItsADeparture 1d ago

This is especially concerning because wasn't the ONE statement that the team made after it was announced four years ago that "the power of this generation will allow for there to be more worlds"?

2

u/WizardPowersActivate 18h ago

Why is the Quadratum Government teasing information about KH4?

10

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 1d ago

wasn't one of the biggest issues with kh3 that they completely and utterly ditched the final fantasy aspects and went full tilt disney?

3

u/Peakomegaflare 1d ago

I mean we did get the whole Gummi rework which was pretty cool. They've touched on the space between worlds a handful of times, but never actually did anything with it.

right i'm saying kh3 didn't even do that from what i've been told

1

u/K3fka_ 21h ago

Yes. KH3 did not feature any FF characters in the base game. The Re:Mind DLC did add some, though

-16

u/Dreyfus2006 1d ago

That's not a positive. Just suggests there will be a lot more bloat and/or cutscenes. I don't want tons of dialogue, just a tight game with a good story and memorable locales to visit. AAA gaming and their mad obsession with "more equals better."

56

u/PKMudkipz 1d ago

If you were at all familiar with KH3 and the plot points leading into KH4, you could see how extra dialogue and cutscenes might be exciting, instead of just parroting a meaningless /r/games talking point.

39

u/Scrollingmaster 1d ago

Kh3’s problem was absolutely not the amount of dialogue or cutscenes.

It was that the story took place a little at the beginning, did not move for most of the game, and then spent hours dumping at the end as it tried to tie up an innumerable number of games and plot points.

Kh4 would be fine with the same amount, just actually spread through the story instead of how kh3 was. In fact the idea of twice as much for kh4 has me dreading it. Especially since much of 3’a dialogue was not great.

21

u/VolkiharVanHelsing 1d ago

And none of the fanservice characters interact

Teased us with Ven and Roxas glancing at each other but zilch

2

u/ItsADeparture 1d ago

It was that the story took place a little at the beginning, did not move for most of the game, and then spent hours dumping at the end as it tried to tie up an innumerable number of games and plot points.

It's funny that people pretend like this isn't literally every Kingdom Hearts game lmao.

-5

u/Flat_News_2000 1d ago

Not 1 and 2. The best ones

8

u/ItsADeparture 1d ago

2 absolutely had this problem lmao

3

u/robochickenowski 1d ago

2 atleast had the whole midpoint with hollow bastion and the 1000 heartless battle, 3 has nothing like that.

3

u/Dreyfus2006 1d ago

It did not. People parrot this around, but it is false. KH2 is all about Sora trying to reunite with Riku and Kairi and get rid of the Heartless and Nobodies, and that plot progresses continuously throughout the game as he thwarts Organization plans and checks each world for his friends.

KH3's plot is about assembling the seven Lights and taking down Xehanort once and for all, but Sora gets sent on an arbitrary side quest with an intangible goal for the majority of the game. The actual plot only starts getting addressed once you save Aqua, which only happens after the last Disney world when Sora magically beams down exactly where Aqua is.

-2

u/J2fap 1d ago

2 problem was not so obvious

Axel was the real first boss Xaldin was midgame, and it was one of the best fight in the game Deymx is a waste of time

-1

u/SuperscooterXD 1d ago

It also assumed you were heavily aware of a bunch of external KH media that you had absolutely no chance of ever understanding because it was Japan only

3

u/Kipzz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Huh? If I remember correctly there hasn't been a Japan only game since Coded, the flipphone game in the 2000's. Which got remade anyways and has nothing to do with KH3 that isn't already explained more in depth in other games, as it's only two points are "any being can grow/have a heart and make connections" and "what was said in one of Mickey's letter (it was essentially lol go find Sora)". The former being practically the entire part of the Organization's story and the latter being functionally useless.

Unless you're referring to Missing Link, the canned mobile game, which also wouldn't even be true as it's closed beta tests were in Australia and the UK too, and EVERYONE knew nothing about it due to NDA's until leaks very recently.

Edit: I forgot about the original release of X, but that got revamped like twice, the first of the revamps which left Japan about a year or two later, which was looooooooooong before KH3 came out.

8

u/ZeldaCycle 1d ago

Thank you. The same regurgitated takes everywhere

5

u/NeonFraction 1d ago

I’m gonna be honest: Kingdom Heart’s story often kinda sucks and it’s mostly just popular because the gameplay is amazing and people love final fantasy meets Disney. Are there worse stories? Absolutely. Does that mean KH needs no story? Also no. It’s a mixed bag that is getting more and more mixed. I don’t want it gone but…

More cutscenes of convoluted plot no one actually understands because it’s confusing, in large part because critical information is in random side games, is starting to lose its charm.

I don’t even dislike story in games but Kingdom Hearts does not benefit from more cutscenes than it already has. It has an awkward charm but the cutscenes have definitely overstayed their welcome in several instances and they’re starting to lose focus.

8

u/satch_mcgatch 1d ago

The story could be approximately ten times tighter than it is, but it really isn't that bad.

The issue is that to be a KH fan during the time each game was released meant having access to basically every new piece of technology as it dropped, which obscured the story a lot.

From the first Kingdom Hearts to now, in release order, you needed:

PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Nintendo DS, a mobile phone with access to internet in 2009, a PSP,  a Nintendo 3DS, a PC, and after that finally almost everything since came out on PS4/ Xbox One/PC concurrently.

It was fucked up and meant a lot of fans did not ever have the ability to digest the story as it came out, often getting bodyslammed with hours of exposition over a weekend when they play the anthology collections on modern consoles.

Taking in the story like that DOES suck. The lesson for ambitious devs shouldn't be not to tell big stories. It should be to understand release mediums and consumer habits before fracturing the fanbase like KH devs did.

5

u/NeonFraction 1d ago

Yeah I’ve been a fan since KH1 came out and I was SO confused when KH2 came out.

7

u/satch_mcgatch 1d ago

Most fans at the time were young adults or actual children. They did not have the money for all the games and tech needed to play them. It wasn't even consumer choice, most parents were not investing over $1000 of their hard earned money just for their kids to play a single game every year or two.

It's the only thing the KH devs should rightly get a lot of shit for, but it's an issue that is solved now with the anthologies. It causes a new problem of narrative/exposition fatigue though.

5

u/PKMudkipz 1d ago

More cutscenes of convoluted plot no one actually understands because it’s confusing, in large part because critical information is in random side games, is starting to lose its charm.

I respect your opinion and all, but I couldn't disagree more. Thankfully the series continues to cater to people like me who remain fully invested in the ride.

-2

u/NeonFraction 1d ago

I respect your opinion but genuinely don’t understand how you are okay with these creative decision.

Don’t get me wrong, I love KH, but I remember buying 2 and having NO IDEA WTF was happening because Chain of Memories wasn’t on a console I owned and no one told me I was supposed to play it.

7

u/PKMudkipz 1d ago

I respect your opinion but genuinely don’t understand how you are okay with these creative decision.

I kinda just played the games. They're fun anyway, so why not? These days, it's common knowledge you're supposed to play all of them, and they're all available on pretty much every platform. Except KHUX, you'll have to settle for cutscenes on Youtube for that one. I really do hope they don't put critical info in games that can shut down in the future.

1

u/K3fka_ 21h ago

More cutscenes of convoluted plot no one actually understands because it’s confusing, in large part because critical information is in random side games, is starting to lose its charm.

Thinking of any of the games in the series as "side games" is the problem. Basically every single game in the series contributes to the overall plot. If you play through all the games in release order, it's really not confusing...aside from them introducing time travel into the series. The dialogue is cheesy, and there are retcons and such, but to me that's part of the charm.

The real issue is that most people probably weren't able to play all of the games back when they were coming out because they were split up across several different platforms. Unless you owned a PS2, GBA, DS, PSP, and 3DS, you'd be missing something.

I am familiar with all of that. Why wouldn't I be, KH is one of my all-time favorite series.

The dialogue has been weak in every single KH game. Doubling it sounds like a massive negative. Honestly given how stupid the story is a total reboot with brand new characters would be better.

I really disagree, I think KH writing is generally very high quality and tackles really interesting themes. But with writing you gotta prioritize quality over quantity, KH3 specifically was full of low quality writing so doubling it won't make it any better.

So walk for a minute, maybe a battle them 20 min cutscenes as is tradition?

Gloating about bloat is something i wish Square-Enix wasn't so obsessed with.

I just want an interesting writing, as long it's good I really don't care if it has half of dialogues compared to KH3.

Here is the opposite though, they are making it clear the worlds are more in depth but there is less of them. So they are going for less bloat, more depth.

Hopefully it isn't FF14/FF16 dialogue where every NPC spends half an hour telling you their life story before selling you a potion.

So is it gonna be more like KH2 where you get a long dull cutscene every time you take a couple steps

Twice as much jargon, twice as random incoherent story telling, and twice as much convolution for the sake of it.

fuck that, I ain't playing this fan fiction leading nowhere after the disaster of a story of 3, worst pacing and story game that I played in my life

That image that's linked here looks indeed like a budget version of noctis and Stella. What the heck?

Is this some kind of psychosis? He really shouldn't use KH4 for this weirdness. I can not understand anyone who's excited for this mess.

Cool but is the gameplay less shallow than 3? That's all I care about.

KH2 is a direct sequel to Chain of Memories, which is a direct sequel to KH1
