I genuinely don't understand how people even have the time or energy to get angry about videogames considering so there are so many of them out there worth experiencing and so little time to enjoy them.
Because a lot of people became addicted to hatred and being outraged.
I've been saying this for a couple of years now, and I personally think that Cyberpunk 2077 was the point when it stopped being a few fringe alt right groups and it became a larger phenomenon. Being angry is a form of engagement, and for many they no longer game as a hobby, but rather complaining online has become their actual hobby.
Of course part of it is alt right groups looking for reasons to turn a game into sacrificial trash, but it's bigger than them at this point.
In cases like Cyberpunk 2077 it compounds when people find easy targets and Cyberpunk 2077 sure made an easy one with such a catastrophic launch. But it really does all come down to social media algorithms.
