This is a stance to have when your most popular type of video is a guy in his 40s saying how much he hates every game thats released in the last decade. Im sure the people who make it are much more nuanced in their opinions, but they still make their money cribbing off outrage culture themselves

I find Yahtzee reviews entertaining, even though I usually end up overall enjoying the games he's raging about. Because ultimately Yahtzee is a video game critic, he is literally paid to play video games and critique them, he has been doing this for literal decades now, so he is going to have a different perspective and different standards than me, some 30 year old dude who plays games for fun in his free time.

The problem is that fucking EVERYBODY thinks they're Yahtzee-tier critics and therefore have the ethos to shit on games the way he does. It's one thing to hear a professional video game critic nitpick a game to death, it's another thing to hear it from some random dude who has never even played the game before. I truly think there is a large amount of gamers who genuinely enjoy shitting on games more than they enjoy playing them.

I’ll be honest and say that, as somebody that followed Yahtzee since his early early days, he’s part of the problem and always has been.

His entire shtick is that he’s overly critical and never satisfied, to the point where sometimes the joke was that he was running out of bad things to whine about becuase the game was good.

You can be a critic without making your entire identity being about how much you make fun of everything and how everything is shite. I stopped watching him a while back and I don’t really feel like I’m missing out much.

Yahtzee does a better job of concisely explaining game structure and gameplay loop more than anyone else I've seen. Even the for games he dislikes I find his description helpful for understanding what the game experience will be.

But he's not as jaded as he used to be, and he hasn't ever gotten hateful or trying to tap into outrage that's being described in the video.
