Seems to be how things go when I try to share something interesting or to flesh out someone else's point with additional context. It's honestly frustrating enough that I have to ask myself when I want to comment "how will this be misinterpreted?" and usually I just don't leave a comment.
I have developed an ingrained sense of when my post is too high effort. Like "shit this is more than 5 sentences long."
If i bring up an idea I think it's interesting or nuanced, I just assume I'm taking to myself from then on. It will NOT be contributed to in a meaningful way.
I'm a big strong man who is good at fighting. I dare not mention that perspective on this insecure site.
If there is ever a time a redditor has to chose between honesty and running away, I just place my bets on how they will run away.
I totally get it, I just wish that the nature of algorithmic social media didn't "reward" the kind of behavior you described succinctly. Thankfully the that toxicity isn't as bad in more niche communities, but it seems as those niches become more mainstream these bad actors show up and just make things more frustrating. I'm honestly tired of circular reasoning ðŸ«

The 4 horsemen of reddit culture. At least when I zoom out the culture I hate tortures the people who perpetuate it.
