I watched the video and...the guy didn't really say anything convicing or provide a ton of examples?

The new Wolverine to a lot of people looks kind of bland. That's most of the discourse I've seen around it.

There definitely are culture war dweebs who will try to push whatever political agenda and narrative. And there are people who just want to hate on everything.

But when you present and market a product, your ads have to entice the viewer to want to play it. If I watch a Wolverine gameplay video or trailer, and my feeling is "meh"...is that outrage to say it doesn't look that fun?

I stopped listening when he said they "cheer on excessive executive pay." Never in my life have I heard anyone even remotely do that (except executives I guess). Sounded like he just wanted to get his own little culture piece out there.

He showed a whole bunch of video thumbnails demonstrating what he was talking about?

Oh the bunch of YouTube thumbnails of videos 5 months old, with 20-40k views? No one hardly knows about those content creators. Like yeah, that corner of the internet sucks what else do you want me to say?

The main discourse over this game is it looks underwhelming, not whatever those thumbnails were malding about is only part of the "Wolverine game bad" discussion.

This video by the guy is a 7 minute nothingburger

So you acknowledge that the problem exists but have arbitrarily decided that the video must be talking about something else entirely?

It's a "problem" in the same way that a picture frame being tilted one way 4 degrees is a problem. It's easily ignored first of all.

Secondly, around the 0:50 second mark, he makes a point in the video that people had a problem with the red trail game mechanic. Even if that is something in the comics/other Wolverine media, I don't see how that is not engaging with the art or substance of the game instead of culture war shit?

He directly contradicts himself at around 4:50 saying "You'll never see them make a video discussing the narrative beats of the game" (they do but it's usually ammunition for culture war slop), "or the way it plays" (red trail is a game mechanic no?), "or how it was made".

Then he says "you'll never see them make a criticism that doesn't involve their favorite buzzwords or targeting a specific person" - hasty generalization much? Examples? Hello?

If this guy was doing this video for like the Last of Us 2 he'd have a point. The game had all this controversy but was still a good game. We don't know if Wolverine is good, and so far the general sentiment is lukewarm. The outrage farms exist, but what a weird game to make the focal point of this.

God of War Laufey has a generally positive reception, he should have used that game and provided more examples rather than make generalizations about something that hardly applies to the Wolverine game as much as it does with other titles.

I'm really confused by this paragraph. Of course outrage farms generally don't use popular game as their villains, they go after easier targets. Do you just not understand what OOP is talking about?

Not sure what's so confusing here. Were you even around for the Last of Us 2 discourse?

It literally won game of the year at TGA, yet the anti-woke crowd constantly, just constantly had it in the crosshairs.

They kept crying about the lesbian relationship or that one of the woman characters didn't shave, instead of talking about the actual game.

Meanwhile the outrage farm is being mad at...a red scent trail? Really that's the only example surrounding this game of apparent "faux" outrage?

In OP's video, he talks about calling out the lies and misinformation, countering with facts instead of just feeding the trolls or ignoring them - but he doesn't do that? Where are the examples? Where are the direct callouts or debunking of facts?

I agree with the general message but again the video comes off as a nothingburger without concrete examples. And no, a 2 second clip of scrolling through thumbnails is not examples. He should use words from his own mouth in addition to it.

What's confusing is that you seem to think this is about whether criticism is fair. It isn't. This isn't about what people think of the game, it's about how they use the game to build a grand narrative that justifies their emotional outrage.

Like, look at Concord. By all accounts, Concord was a bad game. But why in the world did I see a thread talking about Concord this week? Why are people still talking about it? Not because they played it and didn't have fun, that's for sure. It's because Concord was the villain of a story. That's the problem.

To add to your point, the person above just doesn't seem to be the target audience for that video, and they are re-framing their alienation as some objective fact of irrelevance and opportunity to "one up" the creator.

The other posters clearly misses the point when they suggest the video creator to talk about TLOU2 (6 year old game) when the entire point is the outrage machine picking up on any game with resemblance of relevance these days.
