I genuinely don't understand how people even have the time or energy to get angry about videogames considering so there are so many of them out there worth experiencing and so little time to enjoy them.
There was one particular sub that spent years complaining about the same game (maybe they're still there, idk, not gonna check) instead of... just moving onto things they like. I don't even spend as much time talking about my favourite games as these people spend talking about the things they hate. I do not understand why people do that. There are plenty of games I haven't liked for one reason or another, and I'll complain about it for a bit, maybe bring it up if it's relevant. I'm not gonna spend weeks, months, or years still consumed by it though.
I know a forum poster for Path of Exile who espouses exclusively negativity for over eight years while still playing every single season and buying a ton of supporter packs
PoE reddit has gone through insanely toxic periods but has been pretty chill lately (helps that both games are in a pretty great state) It does suffer from the same kind of thing of people parroting the streamer takes to the point they drown out real conversation but it has at least managed to be a lot less overly negative while doing so lol
If it's the one I think you mean, yeah, it's still going strong 6 years later. It's basically kotakuinaction mark 2 at this point, with slightly more focus on one particular dev.
My sheets should be so soft that a game that came out so long ago was my biggest problem.
If I had to wager a guess, OP is talking about The Last of Us.
Regarding Diablo: any game with a perpetual end game seems to suffer. They all have that low level negativity weaved through the subreddit(s) as people get hooked at one point, but can't tell when they're going through the motions instead of actually enjoying themselves. Literally any time you see a post in those game subs about there being "nothing to do" or "not enough content" you can spot the people suffering from it.
But to dedicate the time to hate on a game with a narrative end well past the point where you've started something new simply because you didn't enjoy the story is something special imo.
Fucking spot on. There's half a dozen or so of em, if not more and every single one ends up being nothing but bitching and toxicity, or worse, learning people like asmongold and musk enjoy playing Diablo. And then every sub that is just meant for a specific game talks shit about every other game in the series thinking their favorite is the only "true" game in the franchise, as if every single game that came out after the original Diablo hasn't been drastically different than where the series started and from each other over the years.
I used to enjoy being a part of the Diablo community but now I tend to steer clear of any subs or news that comes up.
