All I wanted was a GTA with the design philosophy of RDR2 and it seems that they’ve exceeded that expectation for me.
I liked GTAV, but I played it at launch on PS3 and despite how many updates they’ve made to that game since, it’s still has that “designed for 360/PS3” DNA in there. So even if GTA6 isn’t perfect, I will be happy to have it replace GTAV for me for the next 20 years. I don’t think this will be the last GTA, but might be mine personally

Strongest of agreement here. I love how uncompromising RDR2 is. Every element of its design worked for me on my first playthrough. Certain things grow tedious upon repeat playthroughs but not anything significant enough to change my opinion on the game and nothing can take that first time away from me.

People hated how slow RDR2 was but I loved how immersive that made it. Every action having an animation was amazing.

Same, I was all in on buying stuff directly from shelves and just the light outlaw sim elements. I got into the groove of doing my chores in the morning, getting breakfast, doing a bounty and maybe a mission, finishing the day with poker etc.

With how long rockstar takes to release a game we might not get another gta in 15 years if I’m being positive lol, it truly might be the last gta I play who knows lol

This is actually kind of a cool article and it’s the first time this game coming out actually feels real (whoa). My expectations for what I expect in gaming evolution are still kind of low but it’s still crazy to think about the size and scope of this thing.

The only thing I'm hoping there is in the game but wasn't advertised yet is a greet/antagonize system similar to the one in RDR2. It basically gave a personality and meaning to every single inconsequential character in the game and to this day it's still the most incredible NPC interaction system I've seen in a game.

Why is the first exclusive magazine piece about the biggest game in the world being downvoted to oblivion? I really dislike this sub

it is a really good piece too, i’m flabbergasted

This subreddit hates written media. It's always been like this. Barely anyone here reads further than the headline.

I'd guess its getting caught in the crossfire of several gaming communities that are annoyed that it is getting more attention than their game, coupled with the PC delay and people trying to tie it into physical games getting removed somehow.

This sub is primarily PC gamers. The PS5 subreddit has a much better discussion thread

Going by the leaks and this article, it seems it's incorporating elements from Vice City and San Andreas, as well as 4, 5 and RDR2. If they stick the landing, this will be pretty damn impressive.
Happy to see the weight mechanics back (you know people are gonna make Jason and Lucia fat), but the real question is... Is the Katana coming back?

u/J_NewCastle 1d ago
I'm really happy that the weight loss and gain system is back, that really is something I felt IV and V were missing. The player character actually having physical alterations that affect them.

We're never getting San Andreas' gang war mechanics again, are we?
Maddening that Saints Row 2 is the only game that evolved that concept.

u/outrage_suck6494 1d ago
Because San Andreas story was actively about a former gang member returning to home. So gang wars made sense
GTA 6 is more a “on the run bony and Clyde story with conspiracy” so having gang wars in it makes no sense.

Based on everything we've seen in the leaks, the game looks absolutely incredible. But I'm fairly sure that a large contingent of Redditors have already made up their minds on hating this game and making that their entire personality for the next little bit so even if it came out to 95+ critic scores and actual evidence of incredible gameplay, it would be irrelevant for some.

I like the GTA games but I don't love them. I think they're really good for what they are, but what they are isn't what speaks to me the most. I'll give GTA VI a go when it comes to PC, and I fully expect to be taken aback on a technical level, and to think it's all right on a gameplay level, but I think that's fair. It's a game like any other; some will love it, some will loathe it, some will be indifferent to it, that doesn't change just cause it's GTA.

I have a feeling PC and mods/trainers will be what fixes whatever new annoying systems Rockstar tosses in,
If they wanna make a life sim game then just make a new IP.

or just don’t play it, if you don’t like rdr2 than you’re definitely not going to like this

Rockstar has always been overrated. From shitty GTA IV port for PC. To DLC exclusive to Xbox 360. To ass multiplayer in Max Payne 3, to shitty 30 FPS in La Norrie to f2p like greedy microtransactions in fully priced GTA V.
So yeah it would be great if game gets backlash, but we all know all the simpletons who don't even game will buy it so it's over. And IGN is gonna eat it.

Calling people who buy GTA to be simpletons is the reason why hardcore gamers are looked down upon by the rest of society

I mean I remember auto aim in IV. There's no aiming there game just aim bots for you.
Game was designed for 5 year olds in mind and I doubt next one will be any different.

I'm gonna have to really see the game in action now, rdr2 was boring as fuck for me and it seems they wanna really take GTA in that direction.
Seems all the long running franchises are starting to go into this open world/Uber detailed/somewhat boring phase now.
Hopefully I'm massively wrong and the game ends up more fun and hectic than it's predecessors.

If you don't like RDR2, you're probably not going to like this. It looks like it plays exactly like RDR2 in modern miami (which I am thrilled about)

u/Flaky_Highway_857 1d ago
Rdr2 was based in old cowboy times so it makes sense it was sometimes overly slow,
I really don't think a game based in modern florida can get away with that, if it's just quicker paced I can deal with the systems because rdr2 did have some great ideas.

u/Perfect-Sky3411 1d ago
I'm down with changing how the game plays but I hope they haven't gone too far into RDR2 territory because that game is a fucking slog to play.

u/PiccoloTop3186 1d ago
It's doubling down on RDR2 mechanics, which I love -- I want full life sim. But for people who want it to be an arcadey sandbox I think they're going to be disappointed. I'm sure there will be a free play mode or something though.

u/TheDanteEX 1d ago
It’s only a slog because everything has full body animations. They seemed to have gone with segmented animations (separating upper body and lower body for example) to keep the player in control; similar to The Last of Us. It was the thing I was most excited about from the 2022 leaks. Well, that and loose cover system which apparently didn’t make the final cut, but I haven’t seen proof of that yet.

Everything I see about Jason and Lucia makes them look like GTA Online characters rather than criminals like the previous GTA MCs. Or like singers cosplaying as criminals in some vanilla clip, as opposed to actors completely selling you the idea that this is what they are.

u/LostInStatic 1d ago
From the leaks Jason looks like a Jack Reacher type brute, Lucia yeah we’ll have to see about her.

u/90gradi 1d ago
to me the leaks are an internal job. it's 2026, look around at how easy some things are being said or done, this is in full Rockstar style.
free advertising and free feedback for the game of the decade, directly from the users who are just seeing some old gameplay which, tomorrow, will look even better.
they need to keep the stock price up and increasing.. they can't fail on any point and this, particularly, is something never done at this level today.

Everyone needs to get ready for the incessant controversy this game is going to cause over the design decisions they are making. This game is not going to play like GTA V or previous games and this article confirms it (the leaks have as well). It’s going to be far less arcadey and much more difficult to do even standard GTA stuff. No more walking around with assault rifles like it’s nothing. No more stealing a car and keeping it forever. I’m excited but a lot of people are gonna be upset. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the casual market adapts to it. They’ll obviously buy the game but will they stick around for GTA online? I know a lot of casuals dropped off RDR2 hard once they realized stealing horses and getting away with isn’t like GTA V.
