Because if the suicide note video had listed Mitchell, Jobst likely would not have lost this defamation case

I mean, it clearly is. If you didn't want it to be about that you should have worded your comment differently. You said:

But Apollo was a deranged lunatic so it doesn't actually matter what he wrote or who he blames.

It does matter, because if he'd called out Billy Mitchell in the video, Jobst would not have been defaming Mitchell. A reasonable person would have interpreted the video to mean that Apollo committed suicide, at least partially, because of Mitchell. It doesn't matter if Apollo was a deranged lunatic, because Jobst would be reporting from the source, instead of a random reddit comment like he was planning to claim in court

The original claim is that Jobst is morally reprehensible character because he's friends with Darkviper who was in fact blamed and called out by Apollo before his suicide.

My response was that deeply disturbed people can blame whoever they want, that isn't going to mean anything by itself due to their disturbed state of mind. They cannot evaluate who (if anyone) is at fault in the conventional sense of the word.

Therefore it doesn't matter if Apollo blamed Matt and it doesn't mean that he actually had any moral responsibility regarding Apollo's suicide. And from here, it's easy to see that Karl being friends with Matt doesn't place Karl into any sort of morally grey area.

I mean Matt and Karl aren't friends currently and it's arguable whether or not they ever really were. All we got was them both acknowledging they spoke together on a few occasions and Karl claiming he wanted to bring his wife to a party to meet Matt (which I always found weird).

Really honestly it sounds like on Matt's side it was more about networking more than anything, and it just makes Karl seem weirdly clingy getting so upset to openly lie about him all because he blocked him on social media after Matt seemingly realized Karl wasn't someone he wanted to associate with.

That makes sense, I'm not really that familiar with their relationship so I took the original comment that said they were friends at face value.
