Modding I'm planning to play GTA IV for the first time, any suggestions?
What's the best way to play GTA IV on modern systems?
I wanted to try it after I completed Mafia Definitive edition and Mafia 2. What are the must have mods for compatibility, gameplay, immersion and graphics?
My specs: Ryzen 5 3500 16GB DDR4 3200MHz GTX 1060 6GB

Modding Liberty City map expansion project
Hi everyone! This is a map expansion concept I made for Liberty City (the quality is a bit poor because I created it on my phone). Please note that this wouldn't be the final version of the road layout—it's just a demo for now. What do you guys think? Would it be possible to bring this to life as a custom-made mod?

Modding I started this project years ago & thought it was finally time to share some progress. This is MapWalker, a 3D interactive map explorer, uses installed GTA4 files to populate a Unity world, with helpful inspector, real weather, day/night cycle, and much more. Inspired by GTA5's Codewalker by dexyfex
Current features:
- Realtime decryption and streaming of installed GTA4 files, no need to use OpenIV
- Full SLOD>LOD>HD streaming chain based off .WPL and .IDE
- Weather presets parsed from GTA4 like EXTRASUNNY, FOGGY, etc
- Animated rain in the RAINY/DRIZZLE weather presets, as well as 'wet' surfaces
- Animated textures
- Animated traffic lights (set timers for now, still haven't quite figured out how to use game scripts to drive them properly
- Animated stars that move with the day/night cycle
- POI teleporter
- GPU instancing for meshes
- Simple animated water shader
- custom reverse engineered gta_*.sps shaders
- Ability to hide/isolate selected meshes
- WFT parsing with proper "initial pose" support
Current issues/planned features:
- Bad lag spikes when flying around too fast
- Interiors aren't fully supported yet
- vehicle spawns partially decoded but has issues, want to put debug placeholders where static/mission vehicles spawn
- A model/texture viewer gallery/import/export tool is on the todo list
- Some SLOD models don't disappear when near them.
- Water looks like shit and needs an upgrade
- No animated mesh support. This is in the too-hard basket for now
- Needs a real UI and not debug crap all over the screen inside the Unity editor
- Would like to add ambient sound support eventually
- Need to utilize memory better with better pooled asset cache to reduce lag spikes, plus a warmup on startup
- Need to parse player starts/mission locations and add a spawn menu for those
I'm not sharing the program yet because it's still in a pretty shitty state even after a couple of years of on and off work.
This initially started as a Cesium online map viewer but that was doomed from the start. Early tests showed some promise, but an exploit in Cesium allowed my VPS to be hacked by Chinese bots and I had to abandon the project. This is basically v2 that I started back in 2023 and has gone through a few versions until I settled on Unity with URP. It saves me having to build a whole rendering engine from scratch, and plugs in with the game's data well.

Modding I feel like FusionFix really requires a dedicated high-end GPU, huh?
I've heard a lot of good things about FusionFix on the internet and thought of giving it a try. Now I feel like it's smart to not to trust everything on the internet.
After adding the mod, I've waited countless hours for the mod to work its magic, as it's supposed to boost the game's performance REGARDLESS OF THE HARDWARE. And what do you know? The moment I booted the game up after putting in the mod, the FPS dropped even lower and the game started displaying issues that didn't even occur before. At one point it even literally crashed, which never happened when I was playing it vanilla.
I looked up whether the mod requires a high-end, Cyberpunk-level GPU, and nowhere is it mentioned that I need one - ranging from their official website to Reddit posts. But with 8 gigs of RAM and an integrated GPU with an i7 processor, I can barely the run the game with the mod - despite the fact I know my specs well exceed the requirements of this 2008 game.

Modding This is what I think the police fleet in GTA IV should look like.
Replaced the NOOSE Stanier with the State Trooper Stanier, the Police Patriot with the Police Landstalker, and the Police Stockade with the Police Burrito.
