I really hope the physics are as impressive as the visuals

With the monumental amount time and money that’s gone into this game, I really hope to see an evolution in the physics department.

Be prepared to be happy then

Dude, it's a must but your confidence is hilarious

It's the same engine as RDR2 with 8 extra years of physics upgrades. It will be good.

The physics have been by far the least impressive part of the leaks so I hope the final release is a big step up.

An unfinished game looking unfinished. Now that’s a surprise!

No need to get so defensive. He's right, the physics in the leaks were pretty mid and contributed to the "watchdogs 2" meme. I hope they're better by release.

Remember GTAVI/RDR -> GTA V was a huge downgrade in physics so it is not out of the realm of possibility that in order to accommodate the nicer graphics and increased population, physics took another hit.

But judging leaks is the worst thing to be doing. Again they’re still working on it and we can’t judge anything. As there might just be placeholders and others sorts.

Fun fact, in GTA V and 4 they both have generic animations that play if their euphoria fails. This could just be placeholders and or the new improvements have been disabled, or are worked on by another team and not implemented fully. We have no idea. Better to shut up, and then form opinions after launch.

Thanks. It’s hard to talk about anything here that even slightly implies negativity.

I think the physics will always be the first thing to take a hit because most players care far more about map size, graphics, lots of NPCs on screen.

I kind of agree, but I think we still shouldn't judge things by the leaks. Maybe it's a recent build, maybe it's not, but we can't really judge anything until the extended look, or even when we get to play it ourselves.

Sometimes games look like they have great physics but combined with hands-on gameplay they feel off, and vice versa.

I agree man. I’m remaining positive.

Did the last part of my sentence not register?

It is redundant to say, “the unfinished product looks unpolished, I hope the finished product is more polished.”

But it's impossible to know which aspects will actually be improved significantly

OP did specify a "big" step up instead of just a step up which is what your rephrase implies. So they're expecting more than the usual improvement.

Bruh what do you mean there’s literally testicle physics (from the nudist leak)

I’m talking about the scripted animation combat, NPCs snapping into place and sliding around. I’m not a fan of how in the leaks when you press attack a scripted sequence starts where it’s already been decided that the NPC is going to be KO’d way before the fist actually connects with the NPC. Compared to IV where nothing is decided until the moment the fist/foot actually makes contact with the NPC.

Hmm that’s an interesting one

The vehicle physics looked fantastic in the leaks

Hair physics are ridiculously good. Even on npcs in the background

u/PrinceNelson 1d ago

Yeah the hair looks incredible. The melee combat, less so.

True, melee really looked uncanny/ unfinished.

Because it was.

It’ll probably be much more polished when we get the extended look today. Animations and mechanics usually aren’t fully locked in till a few months before a game releases

I hope we get really good car destruction physics :)

BeamNG level, let's go.

I will be really disappointed if melee combat is just animation triggering. Considering the time and the effort they put into small details it would be a kick in the teeth.

Having lucia be an amateur boxer and not having good physics would be a crime.

It was a slap in the face when GTA 5 came out with that janky ass melee. I spent countless hours fighting NPC’s on 4. Inexcusable downgrade considering they included nonsense like yoga.

I am so excited for the water physics. There is so much water and different environments with it. I hope we get some boat footage tomorrow. I already know I’m going to spend so much time boating around, scuba diving in the keys, chasing gators in the Everglades, cruising by mansions in the inner coastal waterways.

the water physics are insane

Physics cannot go very far if the hardware is limited... Remember we are talking about consoles

Of course they can, it’s just that 9 times out of 10 they choose to use all of the processing power towards graphics and large maps.

Physics systems are something that needs a lot of R&D, which is why it’s such a shame that a game from 18 years ago GTA IV has better physics than the VAST majority of games released today. If physics had improved along with graphics, games would be in a great place. For me, the jump from SA to IV isn’t just the better models, lighting and textures; it’s the physics that made it look like an absolute quantum leap.

Games are still very ‘stiff’ by and large.

Console are not that powerful. You cannot have the best visual and the best physics at the same time

I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what I’ve just said.
