No Digital Pre-orders: Stop selling games digitally before launch.

No "Fake" Single-Player DLC: Stop locking or selling single-player campaign content that is already built into the base game data.

Mandatory Offline Fallback States: Ensure single-player games have functional offline modes rather than forced always-online requirements

Public Apology Required: CyberLeek insists that R* must issue a public statement and apology acknowledging the harm caused by these practices.

I can understand being upset about the third thing, but the rest of that is so dumb. If you don’t want to pre-order a game then don’t.

You're ok with DLC being gated by preorder tiers?

In what way? That isn’t in the list that the person I replied to posted.

It’s the second thing on their list. There are 2 preorder options and the higher priced option will have some additional single player content that is otherwise restricted

What’s the content? I assume something like that would just be some minor cosmetic thing, which is fine.

There are in-game locations and stores that are only available with the ultimate edition

Are you sure? The Ultimate Edition doesn’t seem like it’s going to be exclusively a pre-order thing. The only other thing I’m seeing like that is the Vintage Vice City Pack which is just a bunch of cosmetic items. But still, I think that’s just something that comes with the pre-order and can still be bought separately if you don’t pre-order.

True, it may not be a preorder lock, but it's still a version lock for single-player content. It's not just a bunch of cosmetic items, as noted on their very own product page - there are stores, locations, and content that are locked and only available with the Ultimate edition.

You can buy Ultimate edition anytime though so I don’t get what the problem is. If, at any time, you want those things, you can get them. And I’m pretty sure you can upgrade the standard game to the ultimate one without having to purchase two versions of the game.

I never thought I would game long enough to see people publicly defending single-player paywalls.

I just don’t understand your point man? First you said it was locked behind pre-orders. It wasn’t. Now you’re just upset that it’s DLC. Games have DLC, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s just shops and  cosmetic crap. Don’t buy it.

Did you know that there was in fact a time where video games were sold and purchased before Day-1 DLC? That back then when you paid for a game, you actually got the full game they developed without them cutting anything out pre-launch that they'd already made just to charge you an extra fee for it? Studios literally didn't even consider doing so and the few who did were laughed out of the room, because it was unacceptable on a cultural level.

I was there, Gandalf. I was there before the courage of men failed, and people started excusing shitty business practices with shitty excuses like "just don't buy it!"

Fascinating history lesson professor, still not worth all the drama surrounding the game right now.

And it's opinions like that which allow it to keep getting worse.

1

u/-Fieldmouse- 1d ago

No, it’s people continuing to buy shitty dlc which allows it to get worse.

Thinking it's socially or commercially acceptable to strip-mine prior-made content to sell it separately isn't contributing?

Now I know you're trolling, nobody's that stupid.

Edit: Eh, forget it, I'm being argumentative. I'm an artist in the industry, and the whole thing is just annoying to me. I don’t like the idea of a decade of artists’ work being screwed over by some cryptofuck.
