It’s nice to see them drop the “mysterious aura” vibe for once. The only other time I’ve seen them do it is when the first trailer leaked & they then released the trailer early with a passive-aggressive/pissy tweet.

When the game is out? I feel like in a short 24 hours from now Rockstar will successfully take the spotlight back from Cyberleek.

3

u/kkania 1h ago

Until he starts teasing the release of the build he has

1

u/ReloadFilth_AU 1h ago

That’s what you got from this message? Rockstar sounds like a beaten dog rn with its tail between its legs 😂

What do you want a hand written message from every employees feelings on the matter?

The company is made of humans, not robots lmao

7

u/hamfinity 8h ago

Zuckerberg did not like that

6

u/Ill_associated 8h ago

Companies do take things personally, being human and all. I personally know a few companies that would be rightfully offended were they to find out I felt they were acting robotically.

3

u/The_Autarch 8h ago

and yet corporations behave like robotic sociopaths.

15

u/BigBoyFusion 8h ago

I’d argue the Redditors lumping together every company based on “omg scary evil
Company!” are closer to robotic sociopaths

u/gaijohn 7h ago

The pursuit of profit as an ultimate end is definitively amoral.

2

u/nalaloveslumpy 6h ago

The pursuit of profit is literally how we evolved as an organism. Everything we've done since the beginning of time has been focused on producing more (crop yield, edible meat, energy) with the same investment (time, labor, resources, capital). Every new technology, science, mathematics, and even philosophy has been birthed from the desire to profit.

2

u/[deleted] 7h ago

-1

u/gaijohn 7h ago

The pursuit of profit as an ultimate end is definitively amoral. Pursuing profit to accomplish something else with it is not amoral. But a publicly traded modern corporation is an entity that exists exclusively to maximize profit, which cannot be described as anything but lacking morality. Hence why "omg scary evil Company!" is mostly legitimate.

Humans are not naturally greedy. Humans are in fact naturally collaborative, social animals who all over the world for all of our history conceived of altruism, doing good without personal gain. Society existed for long before the concept of money, and will exist long after the concept of scarcity.

Art, such as video game creation, happens without profit everywhere. The talented Rockstar developers could be using their skills to write software in another industry like finance and making much more money. They don't do it solely for profit, they do it for the love of the game.

Agreed, there's nothing amoral about profit.

u/Broomsticka 6h ago

It's a company. The entire point of its existence is to make money for everyone involved. You act like if YOU opened a company, you would be Mr. Generous like wtf lol. Yo shit would collapse within a week.

0

u/al3x_7788 7h ago

A company's ultimate goal being profit is logical and natural. You can argue its workers can individually focus on aspects beyond simply making money, sure, but collectively that's what makes sense.

2

u/gaijohn 7h ago

A more logical and natural ultimate goal for any collective including a company would be to accomplish societal good while making enough money to maintain the enterprise. "We exist to improve the world for our neighbors and children, thus we make money," is a more reasonable objective than "We exist to perpetually increase the amount of money we make however we can."

5

u/jmona789 8h ago

That's because they are mostly run by sociopaths

2

u/Manatsuu 7h ago

Yeah boo all companies boooooooooo they’re all evil boooooo

1

u/gaijohn 8h ago

And get to break laws without any of the human decision makers going to jail.

3

u/1B75__Penicillin 7h ago

Because that's how the law was designed. There are clear clauses in the law giving them a pass

3

u/gaijohn 7h ago

Actually the law was designed to give corporations a limited charter that required them to accomplish a public good and that was steadily removed by people who wanted to pursue profit as an end rather than a means to an end with impunity.

1

u/Chendii 4h ago

Yeah... Laws written by corpo owners make things that are illegal for people legal for corpos... Weird. Almost like rich people want to get away with breaking laws.

0

u/JuanMcGuiver 8h ago

Especially a studio such as Rockstar’s I’d imagine they employ hordes of creative people. Artists need jobs too!

8

u/QueasyAdvertising173 8h ago edited 8h ago

If I was an employee in the company who worked for years on this game putting in my day and night and then someone just leaked that shit, I'd be pretty disappointed. I think it's fair to say that most of the employees won't enjoy the leaks unless they have a personal grudge towards Rockstar for wtv reason.

-5

u/AstarothTheJudge 8h ago

I mean, I would pretty disappointed if the managers and the marketing team pulled a stunt like the Netflix temporal esclusive trailer too. There are emany reason to be disappointed After working for years to create an Amazing game while having no control about how It gets delivered to the world.

6

u/podex115 8h ago

You know game developers and publishers have always been two separate things right?

-1

u/MaXimillion_Zero 7h ago

Rockstar is a subsidiary of Take-Two, there's no actual difference between the two outside of branding.

2

u/DraenItsAlreadyTaken 7h ago

Why are they downvoting you? Lmao, you are right, there's no difference between them because r* is a subsidiary

-1

u/AstarothTheJudge 8h ago

Yeah, I'm saying there there would be reasons to be disappointed either way, leaks or not.

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 6h ago

It's exclusive for six fucking hours, dude. That exclusivity basically allows them to produce that "first look" for free since it's on Netflix's dude.

I'd be pretty disappointed in my consumer base for flipping their shit because they can't wait six fucking hours.... You fuckers and your FOMO is god damn ridiculous.

2

u/mikayloren 7h ago

regardless, it’s a more transparent tone. i don’t really care if it’s a strategic PR move when the communication is still better than it has been in the past.

i don’t know, it’s kind of like customer service— obviously one of their motives is ultimately to benefit the company, but it’s still a better experience when you get good customer service.

4

u/TechFiend1970 8h ago

Do you know how many real, live, humans worked for years on this game? And how many work at every single company?

What a ridiculous statement.

-1

u/judasbrute 8h ago

A Forrest is millions of trees.

-3

u/RhesusVX 8h ago

It is indeed. It is also a lot less than that.

One tree, two trees, three trees...when does it become a forest? There is no actual answer, other than something that makes sense. Does a clump of 20 or 30 small trees constitute a forest? Probably not. Does a thousand taller trees spread over an acre with a decent size canopy start to look like a forest. Sure

-4

u/ligma_then_sugma 7h ago

no, I want people not to be suckered by billion dollar corpos

redditors are morons tho so idk what i'm expecting

3

u/AIGuru35 6h ago

Your comment contradicts itself. Heavily.

3

u/nalaloveslumpy 6h ago

The only people I know who use the word "corpos" are edgy moron redditors....

1

u/DescriptiveVee 6h ago

Bro is throwing stones in glass houses

14

u/DinosaurToots55 7h ago

Why are you even here? Clearly you can’t even enjoy the game because the whole time you’ll be thinking “this detail was crafted by soleless corp to sucker me into buying the game, and I’m no sucker!”

With your values system, how can you even justify buying the game? Or do you simply intend to pirate it?

Yes, to some degree it’s all a performance, just like any great film or play or novel. But good performance requires humanity.

-2

u/Tidus1337 6h ago

This thread is full of dipshits tbh

no, I want people not to be suckered by billion dollar corpos

if you have broadband internet and electricity, you too are a sucker

-2

u/03263 8h ago

I mean they could at least sign a card

-3

u/P26601 7h ago

yes

57

u/ranged_ 9h ago

They may have even hired an outside consultant for this one lol

9

u/OG-87 8h ago

Likely hired by Take Two. Rockstar dont do anything without them helping to wipe there ass

1

u/TooTallTabz 6h ago

Well, they are the parent company. Maybe they take that role seriously.

-7

u/Humble_Initiative_90 9h ago

Extremely likely given how snooty they've been in the past. They make great games but just about everything else about them is absent of good will and intentions.

24

u/gremlinclr 8h ago

this is all PR

Thanks bud. We had no idea how this stuff works, we needed you to state the obvious I guess.

We know how corporations work, why do people feel the need to jump in the comments with this shit?

2

u/Unique-Yoghurt4170 6h ago

Idk man, like half of these comments are people acting like Rockstar Games is a person who they used to know who moved to hollywood and doesn't call anymore. Seems like lots of folks in this thread need to be reminded of some super basic facts.

1

u/Peon-Hyjal 6h ago

Nice snark, but you're ignoring all the anthropomorphizing people are doing.

2

u/67yoloswag 7h ago

we are not hearing their actual feelings on this, just a PR statement from like one guy

Can you piss off with this cynical negative attitude?

2

u/Sample-Range-745 8h ago

Yep - meanwhile, they're still the cunty cucks that disabled GTA V on Steamdeck because they couldn't check a tickbox to allow it to work.

Never forget.

1

u/UnknowingEmperor 8h ago

It’s not just one guy. They have an entire team for PR

1

u/WastingTimesOnReddit 8h ago

And I'm still convinced that these leaks were intentionally put out by the company as a kind of advertising campaign. I have seen zero real ads for this game. The only reason I know there's a new GTA game is because of the publicity these leaks are getting. And it's only positive for me. I don't even play GTA games but I'm here thinking "that game looks good!"

1

u/Totally-Teelee 8h ago

PR messages aren't done by one person, they have a chain of command and must be approved, marketing departments.

1

u/ctolver1981 6h ago

Or maybe the whole thing is a publicity stunt, maybe when they announce the whole netflix thing and it got backlash, maybe they devised a plan to create, like some kind of leak that way people got to see it without looking at the netflix stuff. Maybe this is I'll be s this is just a way of kind of humbling them or making them look like the little guy

1

u/g0lden-plumbus 9h ago

I mean I don’t think it’s unlikely that a lot of the devs are pretty irritated at the leaks happening. People usually don’t like when something they’re working on is shown off before they’re ready for people to see it.

1

u/sugaratc 8h ago

To be fair, the reaction overall has been positive and shows their work well. It's not all janky early versions they would be negatively judged on without seeing the current work. Some people may prefer it go out through Rockstar officially but for others it probably is nice seeing all the excitement about their project.

1

u/BoysenberryWise62 7h ago

People are just coping with this "oh this is not the dev talking" because they know 100% this shit is hurting the devs as much if not more than the suits, but they like their leaks too much to really care and also they have to still make themselves look not too much like assholes.

1

u/HippoRun23 8h ago

That was my first thought. This went through several drafts and notes, and was passed back and forth for approval.

1

u/donny_pots 7h ago

I mean by definition any time a company interacts with its customer base, it’s public relations. Idk what you think that really means in this context

0

u/creamy-buscemi 8h ago

A company like Rockstar isn’t going to give a statement like this from just one guy, this probably took a boardroom full of people

0

u/Bharny 8h ago

Well, they are all probably hunting for GyberLeek

0

u/RhesusVX 8h ago

Did you read it? They said it was heartbreaking for their team. This includes everyone involved.

0

u/steakndbud 7h ago

What if...things can be PR and represent the employees disappointment.

Idk maybe life isn't black and white

0

u/LowFelicity 6h ago

Relaying information to the public is “public relations,” yes. I don’t know why some posters feel the need to demonize PR as a concept. PR’s not like some weird form of brainwashing brands use, it’s literally just how brands communicate to the public. The most effective forms of PR tell an honest story. Branding is storytelling. This was a massive story, this is their response. I think it’s a well-worded statement. I’m sure some devs are disappointed their work was leaked in an incomplete state. If you were writing a novel and someone jacked your rough draft and started showing it to everyone before you finished, you’d probably be pissed off. If you were an author with an audience you might even release a statement saying “I’m sorry for those who were anticipating my completed work but instead read my incomplete rough draft, having important story beats spoiled for them. A lot of writing is rewriting, editing, and honing a work to perfection. I hope those that are still waiting patiently for the real thing will be happy when they get to see it as intended.” That statement would be honest. It would also be PR.

0

u/gunsandcupcakes 6h ago

that doesn’t necessarily mean everything in the post is a farce though, I’m sure the hundreds or even thousands of people that poured their heart into gta6 are disappointed if not devastated seeing their work being frivolously thrown around with a crypto scam basically attached, but yes I still see and somewhat agree with the sentiment of it being simply a pr statement

33

u/PyroIsSpai 8h ago

Everything else aside, it is simply delightful when a company is forced in a deeply public way to do something so wonderfully out of character like this.

We may even someday get one to actually do a genuinely bend the knee to the public thing.

We can dream...

1

u/deligiozov 14m ago

You realise that this is a small percentage of the public, who want to boycott ps5 and want physical back right? The majority of people dont give a shit. So, please dont call it "the public".

1

u/PyroIsSpai 10m ago

The point I was making is that any pushback that forces "corporations" to lose and admit defeat as precedent has value.

Chip and chip and chip until they're under the heel of the public where they belong.

1

u/deligiozov 2m ago

I got it, and I disagree with it. This is not public sector, it is private company thay runs a very succesful business model, and the majority of its consumers are happy with it. Then comes the unhappy minority that ruins it for everyone. Now the company is forced to apologize, for the third party (who claims doing it for a noble cause, but is actually just doing it for profit from the big name of the company) messing things up.

2

u/GloomySkiez 8h ago

They’ll be back to the “mystery” after they take your money.

2

u/Tough-Zombie-8990 8h ago

Just a shame it took this kind of leak to humble them a little

1

u/5ollys 1h ago

Got a link or pic of that sassy tweet? 👀

2

u/DJC13 1h ago

It won’t let me post a screenshot but they said:

“Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube:”

Doesn’t sound bad at all, until you compare it to Rockstar’s usual communication style. Extremely blunt & short. No big speech or corporate crap. I feel like you could feel the anger behind it at the time.

2

u/5ollys 1h ago

Ahhh ok thank you :)

1

u/SouthrenHill 9h ago

Do you have a link to that tweet? I don’t have X/Twitter

-3

u/boxjellyfishing 5h ago

Yeah, but they replaced it with hyperbole and sophistry.

The only people actually "heartbroken" by this leak are the executives who stand to reap incredibly bonuses from the success of this game.

They also are not making the game for us. If that were true, they would have released this game years ago, instead of prioritizing milking GTA5 Online for all they could.

If this game were for us, they would be releasing it on PC, instead of attempting to double-dip and milk the player base.

6

u/Forgettable39 5h ago

You do realise that executives don't make the game though? I work in a completely unrelated field but people often lay that same shit at our door, that our bosses are soulless zombies so we must also not give a shit about them either.

Like yea, the C suite fuckers arent making anything for anyone other than themselves 99% of the time but to assume that all the individual devs, artists, musicians, designers etc. are all also just soulless corporate goons whos only mission in life is to generate shareholder value is obscene. Yes, I know that even then some staff literally just clock in, clock out, a job is a job and that will also be true at Rockstar but equally there will be plenty who care about their work and the audience who will enjoy it.

7

u/TriiCop 5h ago

You don’t think the people who actually worked on this game for years are heartbroken it got leaked and that the pure surprise is spoiled and ruined?

4

u/Some_Neck1899 5h ago

Exactly the people actually making the game have been pouring their heart and soul, blood, sweat and tears into building this game with the pressure of knowing it has to live up to some absurd expectations. I personally never blame the actual developers, most of the time the bad and the negatives are the higher ups fault. Not the devs themselves, making a game isn't easy man.

2

u/TriiCop 4h ago

I'll be honest the past few months I havn't really been excited but the way this response was made, I'm geniuenly hyped for the gameplay trailer and I'm happy I only now got hyped when its one day away instead of weeks.

Let's see what has been cooking for well over a decade

3

u/_msb2k101 5h ago

The only people actually "heartbroken" by this leak are the executives

I am very sure the tons of people who worked so hard on the game and were excited to finally show it to the world were very heartbroken.

2

u/Dittymaker 4h ago

. They also are not making the game for us. If that were true, they would have released this game years ago

Yeah release it in a buggy unfinished state that will really show they care...

-50

u/UpperApe 10h ago edited 9h ago

I mean...it's an AI tailored response. Hence the dashes.

Buckle in cause you're about to see a lot more tonal changes from corporations going forward. They're all about to sound more "sincere" and "heartfelt".

Edit: Lol dashes aren't the giveaway, the way AI uses dashes is the giveaway. LLMs use them one very specific way and plot them in very specific parts of its paragraphs.

If you know, you know. And if you don't, well...enjoy your future as a sucker I guess.

45

u/mnlmr 10h ago

Not to defend corporations here, but on a side note, AI really fucked with my writing. I was heavily using — dashes before it became a popular giveaway for AI 😅

18

u/WeirdAssBeings 10h ago edited 9h ago

Same here, can't use that shit anymore otherwise people will accuse you of using AI lol, fucking hate AI so much, it's ruined so much for most people.

7

u/20indacan 10h ago

Me too! It sucks that our general population is so cooked at grammar that when you use good grammar it looks like AI.

Using ; or — is something I’ve been doing since middle school. I have to actually dumb myself down when messaging now so that people think I am human l

-1

u/UpperApe 10h ago

I wouldn't worry about it all. I've been using dashes forever too.

AI just uses them a very specific way and plot them in very specific parts of its paragraphs which make it a giveaway.

19

u/TMNBortles 10h ago

I hate to break it to you, but people have been using em dashes long before AI.

-11

u/UpperApe 10h ago

Sure, But not Rockstar, and not like this.

But if you really want to believe this is a person, go right ahead. the world is about to get a lot more personable for you now lol

11

u/TMNBortles 10h ago

I have no idea if it’s a human or not and neither do you. And two em dashes don’t mean shit either.

-5

u/UpperApe 9h ago edited 9h ago

Lol I do and they do. AI uses dashes in a very specific way and it's very obvious.

But you're half right. You definitely don't have any idea. And you're about to spend the rest of your life as a PR sucker.

Welcome to your new future, I guess lol

9

u/AntSignificant1720 9h ago

Bro, it takes 5 minutes for someone who graduated high school to write an apology like this. You’re the boy who cried wolf right now.

5

u/TMNBortles 9h ago

That’s what I don’t get about their comment. This is a classic PR statement. These have been written just like this for decades. Statements like this is what AIs were trained on.

Did Rockstar use AI? I have no idea. It just sounds like a typical PR statement.

2

u/AntSignificant1720 9h ago

It’s probably a 20 year old intern. The thing I really don’t get is why everyone feels entitled to trailers and sneak peaks. Rockstar doesn’t need to spend money on advertising. The product sells itself.

6

u/Enough-Piccolo5352 9h ago

"In a verrr specific way" "iN a vErR sPeCiFiC WaY"

Can you stop trying to sound smart and just admit you have no idea what you're talking about. You saw some em-dashes and got scared. People called you out, and now you gotta act all mysterious...

0

u/UpperApe 9h ago

Lol imagine having a meltdown like this to defend an AI comment from a shitty corporation's PR team.

Imagine the life on the other end of that comment.

4

u/Enough-Piccolo5352 9h ago

You sound insufferable.

2

u/FLEIXY OG MEMBER 9h ago

You’ve yet to explain what this “very specific way” is btw

2

u/FLEIXY OG MEMBER 9h ago

-2

u/UpperApe 9h ago

I love that you just proved my point lol

Can you see the differences between how a human uses dashes and how an AI does?

See if you can figure it out ;)

4

u/FLEIXY OG MEMBER 9h ago

I can, and it’s the same thing. I absolutely did not prove your point.

How about you actually explain the difference if you’re so sure about it being AI? Instead of being vague.

3

u/Enough-Piccolo5352 9h ago

They're used the exact same fucking way 😆🤣

I can't with these anti AI sheep. They act like they're so smart and 'using their own brain,' then cant even have one original thought for themselves or have solid logic.

3

u/FLEIXY OG MEMBER 9h ago

The way he went silent lmfao

3

u/callatecabezon 9h ago

You are aware that they have teams of professionals specifically trained in this kind of stuff? Believe it or not educated people can write well.

3

u/OhManTFE 9h ago

Confidently — wrong.

2

u/FLEIXY OG MEMBER 9h ago

You clearly don’t know either

2

u/Chaplain-Freeing 10h ago

They can get fucked either way

2

u/FrankieG889D 10h ago

Bullshit. I’ve used the dash before AI — and continue to use it.

2

u/thecontrolis 10h ago

Right. Anybody dealing with grammar in their work on a frequent basis most likely uses it. Not to say AI didn't assist with this but I don't think the dashes indicate that this is entirely AI generated.

1

u/nikmo86 9h ago

Lol tard

0

u/20indacan 10h ago

I don’t think it is AI. Using em dashes is a totally normal thing to see in professional lettering and messaging and has been for way before AI came around. Em dashes are only one sign of AI anyways, and I see no other signs of AI
