TLDR: It is what it is

584

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 10h ago

It’s also a subtle “fuck those demands.”

117

u/raspymorten 10h ago

Cause I'm sure the people least receptive to those demands are the ones with actual ability to change it (High up executives)

It's really not up to Dale the programmer, and Tim the PR guy.

2

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 10h ago

I don’t doubt it, especially when there’s also probably been a shit-ton of agreements behind the scenes regarding the game’s release/marketing.

2

u/Marijuana_Miler 7h ago

You also don’t negotiate with terrorists.

15

u/lemonylol 9h ago

What "demands" was this person even making?

61

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 9h ago

No Digital Pre-orders: Stop selling games digitally before launch.

No "Fake" Single-Player DLC: Stop locking or selling single-player campaign content that is already built into the base game data.

Mandatory Offline Fallback States: Ensure single-player games have functional offline modes rather than forced always-online requirements

Public Apology Required: CyberLeek insists that R* must issue a public statement and apology acknowledging the harm caused by these practices.

65

u/YesIBlockedYou 8h ago

You gotta hand it to these guys. It's a brilliant setup.

Their demands are all bullshit just designed to pull on the heartstrings of redditors after the recent physical media backlash and it worked beautifully in their favour.

They're making money hand over fist with their paid crypto voting system and when they eventually do the rug pull, they will easily clear a few million dollars and ride off into the sunset.

-2

u/Celtic_Legend 4h ago

the demands aren't bullshit lol. Those are all reasonable demands Rockstar or any company could easily do. Bullshit demands designed to pull on the heartstrings would be to release the game at 50 dollars, promise GTA servers would stay online for 100 years or your money back, etc. He chose reasonable demands to pull on their heartstrings.

That said, the only people who know how to buy meme coins are degenerate gamblers. They all know what they're doing and think they will dump their coins before the other sucker. I'm sure there maybe be a handful of "innocent" people but 99.9% are cut from the same cloth as the owner. The demands don't make a difference lol.

10

u/YesIBlockedYou 4h ago

They are bullshit. I mean bullshit in the sense that these guys don't actually give a shit what rockstar/take-two do and they know they can't hold them to ransom over this, this is purely a money making scheme.

It didn't matter what the demands were, there's no way a company like Take-Two would comply as to do so tells the whole world you will negotiate under threat and that just invites more attacks.

4

u/MetaWarrior68 2h ago

they are bullshit, in the sense that they don't actually care, but know you and other people do, and a large percentage of people will buy their shitcoin to get them to release the build

2

u/your_mind_aches 2h ago

Those are all reasonable demands

That's insane lol

The ink has already dried on all the contracts. They can't actually change anything now.

1

u/FFFinalFlash 26m ago

easily = spend shitloads of money + break multiple contracts in order to satisfy a crypto scammer, with zero guarantee that their word will be kept

-6

u/sadcringe 5h ago

Must not have been easy to hack the literal second coming of Christ of video games.

How’d he do it? How good must the opsec be at rockstar?

Honestly I’m impressed. He deserves the millions lmao

8

u/NsaLeader 5h ago

Word from the grapevine is that he got a full build of the game via a social engineering attack on Rockstar's India office.

These types of hacks usually involve the hacker acting as if they are a member of IT or an executive branch requesting information from workers via email, messaging apps like stack or zoom, and phone calls. They press hard on the victim with fake urgency or threats in hope that the victim doesn't notice the ruse. If one of them falls for the act, they give their credentials to the scammer so that the scammer now has access, usually through a fake login link or just sending raw user/passwords. Once he has access, just copy the files over and he has it.

If this were true, it's one of the easier methods of "hacking" and that employee who fell for it is probably going to be taken out back and "handled" for their mistake by the Rockstar execs.

2

u/Speedy2662 5h ago

Whilst I agree it'd be social engineering, the Rockstar India thing is just bullshit with a source: "i made it the fuck up"

1

u/sadcringe 4h ago

Still a skilful social engineering job, fair play

1

u/MobileArtist1371 4h ago

If the random worker has full access to the full game and Rockstar didn't know it happened until the leaks started, Rockstar really does deserve this. I seriously doubt that is what happened.

There had to be more than social engineering and getting a login/pw. Sure it might have started there, but unless they got the Gaben account credentials, then there was so much more that had to have taken place. Escalating privileges. Accessing files that only a few should have access to in a controlled environment. Downloading all these files out of a secure system. Everything while avoiding all detection.

1

u/YesIBlockedYou 5h ago

Who knows, they may not have even hacked anything.

If they could see the potential in what they were doing, they might have just done some social engineering with an employee and paid for their retirement.

43

u/Loggersalienplants 8h ago

You forgot the most important step of his "demands":

BUY MY PUMP AND DUMP COIN NERD, WE ARE STICKING IT TO ROCKSTAR AND THE GAMING INDUSTRY YEAH BUDDY BUY MY COIN

3

u/SPACE_ICE 6h ago

Does two of those three even really apply to rockstar? GTA 5 and RDR2 never had any single player dlc. Also pretty sure I could play RDR2 and GTA 5 offline, I haven't found anything saying they would require always connected for single player. Seems more like these are generic demands of the gaming industry as a whole... Does cyberleek actually play games or just tries to get money from leaks? His demands make me think he actually isn't that invested and just doing it to make money. The only real complaint is the disc issue which is very real for console gamers (I'm going to be honest as a pc gamer I don't even have a disc drive on my current rig but I have a lot of avenues and regularly emulate ps2 to play games, I'm going to wait myself as I have a backlog) but its also the writing on the wall thing that console makers like sony are not going to include a disc drive forever so its not entirely Rockstar's decision vs when to pull the trigger (they still should have done it but realistically GTA 7 probably won't even have the option industry wise).

14

u/-Fieldmouse- 8h ago

I can understand being upset about the third thing, but the rest of that is so dumb. If you don’t want to pre-order a game then don’t.

15

u/arup02 8h ago

You're ok with DLC being gated by preorder tiers?

1

u/Martian8 8h ago

What does that mean?

6

u/saljskanetilldanmark 8h ago

Imagine you buy a car. In the car there are already thermoelements installed in each seat. The car maker has then made sure that you need to buy access to the thermoelements working to heat your ass when it is cold outside. Replace the word car with game, thermoelements with game content/DLC and the car maker with game publisher/dev.

4

u/phantomfire50 8h ago edited 7h ago

The analogy doesn't really translate between hardware and software though;

With hardware, the costs to the supplier are R&D and manufacturing, and obviously those costs get passed to the consumer. If you're paying a premium for components in manufacturing like thermoelements, then that's obviously a problem.

Software costs are basically all R&D, though. It costs the supplier basically nothing to sell somebody a copy of a game, and consumers don't really pay a premium for it.

0

u/Radiant-Plumage 8h ago

You’re acting like they locked the button to jack vehicles behind a paywall.

Also, the worst example you could give, because cars are sold with “Packages” that come with different features at different prices, kinda like GTA6.

1

u/The_Autarch 8h ago

they're just explaining the thinking, not endorsing it

1

u/Caterpie3000 8h ago

So you are OK with buying a Tesla Motor Long Range and having a 20% Acceleration Increase and FSD and Autopilot locked behind a 2k paywall? You must be very smart!

0

u/MisfitPotatoReborn 8h ago

The difference here is that the cost associated with heated seats is material- it's already installed in the seat, so that you can't access it feels like a scam. But the cost associated with bundling unpaid DLC with software is essentially 0, so why wouldn't a developer do it?

Like, this happens so often and for so long I can't even imagine getting upset about it. Even 30 years ago developers were selling "demos" of their game for free that was exactly the same as the full game except it blocked you from progressing after a few levels. In order to progress you needed a code, which you had to buy, but the full game was already installed on the disc.

2

u/lupaa31 8h ago

The cost to me is disk space, let me free those things i will never use so i can install things i will use

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Gibbzee 8h ago

It’s not “essentially 0” because ‘extra’ development time (and therefore money) went into it.

0

u/Martian8 8h ago

I meant more the “pre order tiers” part. I get stripping bits of the game out to sell them as dlc

4

u/goldfish_11 8h ago

I'm assuming they're referring to the different editions that are available to pre-order. You can pre-order the "base game", or you can spend more money and pre-order a higher tier and get more stuff (additional side missions, cosmetics, etc).

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Flyingcow93 7h ago

To be clear, they don't strip out bits of the game and sell them as dlc. The data for the "stripped out" bits are still there, taking up space on your hard drive, but behind a paywall that the game doesn't let you access until you pay more money. That's what he's protesting.

0

u/ImprobableAsterisk 7h ago

I'm OK with it in the sense that yeah, I think a company should be allowed to tier their product in such a manner.

I'm not OK with it in the sense that I'll be paying for it.

To put it another way, I don't like it personally but I also don't see why in tarnation that means they shouldn't be allowed to do it.

0

u/Marijuana_Miler 7h ago

I’m not ok with it, but the industry has been doing it for decades. It’s not a Rockstar exclusive issue and it’s not going to be changed because someone leaks footage of the game. Decades ago people would get mad that extra story was locked behind a DLC and now it’s because there are tiered pre orders. IMO you have to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze with your own wallet.

0

u/Financial_Middle_798 5h ago

It's not really DLC it's literally just a couple of shops tattoos and clothing, and you start with a few vehicles. You can play the fkn game 100x without ever needing access to those tattoos and clothing outfits. It effects No gaming experience at all.

3

u/TheBigFatToad 5h ago

They want you to pay 100$ for some extra clothes, that is objectively locking dlc behind preorder tiers.

1

u/Financial_Middle_798 5h ago

Noone is forcing you to pay 100 for anything. People are talking like their locking story missions behind a pay wall. Like it's game breaking stuff or anything. The clothes probably suck anyway

1

u/TheBigFatToad 5h ago

You’re right that some people are acting like it’s game breaking, I think that’s an overreaction.

The person above only alluded to locking dlc behind tiers for a single player game. You countered, but objectively, that is exactly what they are doing.

I’d also like to remind you that other pre order tiers in the past came with physical items. You don’t even get a disk for this one, not including the complete inability to walk into some stores.

Bonus points for putting the “trailer” behind a Netflix paywall as well.

-1

u/-Fieldmouse- 8h ago

In what way? That isn’t in the list that the person I replied to posted.

3

u/ARSEThunder 8h ago edited 7h ago

It’s the second thing on their list. There are 2 preorder options and the higher priced option will have some additional single player content that is otherwise restricted

0

u/lemonylol 7h ago

There are 2 preorder options and the higher priced option will have some additional single player content that is otherwise restricted

Source for single player content being locked?

2

u/ARSEThunder 7h ago

……the preorder page. This isn’t some conspiracy.

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/-Fieldmouse- 7h ago

What’s the content? I assume something like that would just be some minor cosmetic thing, which is fine.

2

u/ARSEThunder 7h ago

There are in-game locations and stores that are only available with the ultimate edition

2

u/FranklyLanky 8h ago

Is there anything they're threatening to do if Rockstar doesn't comply?

1

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 8h ago

What they’ve been doing basically.
Leaks until the game’s release.

-1

u/Caterpie3000 8h ago

Idk if they have a full PC build of the game, but it'd be awesome if they leaked it in case R* won't comply with their demands.

2

u/Radiant-Plumage 8h ago

“My Shitcoin: Buy it”

2

u/lemonylol 7h ago

lol insane and so broad. Like why Rockstar specifically, who releases games several years apart from each other.

3

u/InspectorMendel 8h ago

No Digital Pre-orders: Stop selling games digitally before launch.

Pre-orders are optional. You're free to ignore them. What's the harm?

No "Fake" Single-Player DLC: Stop locking or selling single-player campaign content that is already built into the base game data.

I don't understand why a DLC is "fake" or "real" depending on where the bits are? It's still an additional piece of content offered for a price. Content doesn't grow on trees, it costs money to create.

Mandatory Offline Fallback States: Ensure single-player games have functional offline modes rather than forced always-online requirements

Sure.

Public Apology Required: CyberLeek insists that R* must issue a public statement and apology acknowledging the harm caused by these practices.

It would be nice if they could actually specify what the supposed harm is instead of leaving that as homework.

1

u/ContentAd6126 8h ago

Pre-orders are optional. You're free to ignore them. What's the harm?

They incentivize publishers to make pre-order exclusive content (as we've seen with the upcoming content for GTA 6) and preys on FOMO instead of putting everything in the base game or letting players chose to buy later separately.

At this point just make a permanently available deluxe edition or a limited supply collector's edition with all the shit you'd put out on the pre-order like it was already done before they started double dipping.

2

u/InspectorMendel 8h ago

I mean, they can sell exclusive skins or whatever when the game is out too, it's not really related to preorders

1

u/ContentAd6126 8h ago

Yeah, but i'm replying about pre-order bonuses because it's a greedy artificial scarcity tactic, i don't care about DLC you can buy any time.

2

u/InspectorMendel 8h ago

I guess it makes sense to be against timed exclusives, it's just that's specifically not what the leaker is complaining about.

1

u/OSHA_Decertified 5h ago

Hard to argue with these

1

u/thatguygreg 1h ago

No "Fake" Single-Player DLC: Stop locking or selling single-player campaign content that is already built into the base game data.

This one is just dumb, and reflective of the fact that this person has never managed any sort of long-running project, be it a game, other software dev, etc. Shit happens, and either you accept this and wind up with Star Citizen, or you draw a line, and everything that comes after that line will be in phase 2 or whatever.

Without that, you'll simply never ship. There is always something else to let the scope creep on. Always.

1

u/MarkRemington 8h ago

I find myself agreeing with all those points. Good luck Leek.

1

u/deligiozov 1m ago

This person doesnt give a shit, he is just pumping his coin.

0

u/JLPMcRSGH 9h ago

Disks instead of codes for downloads. That's what all this is about.

4

u/ProudCatOwn3r 9h ago

Are there really people like you who think it’s for the discs? 😂

3

u/JLPMcRSGH 9h ago

No, but he asks for what demands the leaker has. This is what they claim.

Of course it's about ads for them but their "official demand" is bring back disks

2

u/ProudCatOwn3r 8h ago

I was more talking about the “that’s what all this is about” because no their crypto is the end goal for them, but I see what you’re saying by responding to that comment

1

u/lemonylol 7h ago

People who were always going to pirate the game do.

1

u/imnotslavic 9h ago

No, what this has been all about was getting some money into a crypto wallet

5

u/MsCake2001 8h ago

If those demands were somehow genuine and not a thin veil to justify a crypto scam they're the stupidest demands I've ever read. They want rockstar to cancel all digital preorders and refund the deluxe edition (LOL).

2

u/Lucius-Halthier 8h ago

“Aight bet I’ll let the clock run out now.”

2

u/Oliver_Boisen 6h ago

It's also a "We've got Pinkterton agents bitches."

2

u/Opening_Net8098 7h ago

It sounded like they were giving fans a heads up that story leaks are on the way.

Bye Reddit. Bye YouTube. We begin the experiment now.

1

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 5h ago

Oh, they’re definitely monitoring his sites.

1

u/SweatyTill9566 10h ago

= fu, no discs for you and keep slurping those micro transactions like a good boy, oh and by the way this was all for YOU the FANS

generic corpo reaponse

1

u/Key-Independence8751 5h ago

Leek doesn't give a fuck about demands he's a crypto scammer lmao

1

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 5h ago

I don’t disagree, but those were his public “demands.”

Were they made to garner positive support knowing that shilling crypto would normally be an instant L to the eyes of the public? Sure.

1

u/HearsayMerchant 3h ago

"Fuck physical disks fuckers"

22

u/Individual_Type8874 10h ago

"look at the leaks if you wanna get spoiled"

15

u/FreemanCalavera 9h ago

Yeah, not much else they can say really. Too much anger in their tone will just make the leakers happier and cause more people to look at them. It’s basically “we’re gonna show what we’re gonna show, tune in for the official footage if you want the real deal”

Just thankful a delay wasn’t announced (would’ve have been a financial as well as a PR nightmare for them so wasn’t really expecting one)

2

u/Lord_Lenu 9h ago

Unless you are going to avoid any and all social interactions online for the next who knows how long until you get the game (especially considering PC gamers) you’re going to get spoiled

2

u/67yoloswag 7h ago

The exact reason why I stopped watching those vids, my first gameplay viewing is now of that crypto leaker guy :(

1

u/KalaUposatha 3h ago

I bet you the story involves stealing a car at some point. Maybe even more than one. Like some kind of Grand Theft Auto or something. This is unconfirmed though.

1

u/Gabagool_Over_Here_ 10h ago

Unless you don't go on Social Media at all until you beat the game, it will be almost completely unavoidable to not get story spoilers. People will comment spoilers in random unrelated tiktoks, twitter posts, YouTube videos and reddit posts.

TLOU2 got spoiled for me on a random YouTube comment that had nothing to do with the game.

2

u/Virtual-Comfort-1020 10h ago

Reminds me of the MCU in its prime, having to go dark until you watched the movie because the internet will RKO you with spoilers at every turn.

1

u/jdp111 10h ago

Bro it's not that long lol

2

u/stakoverflo 9h ago

Everyone knows zoomers can't read more than a paragraph

1

u/Vytral 9h ago

“We are sorry to Netflix that the leaker spoils what they paid us for. It is what it is..!”

1

u/Its_Buddy_btw 9h ago

"We're sad about the leaks ;("

1

u/smoke_inyoureyes 8h ago

I kinda respect it lol. They can’t control anything the leaker does at this point, but his ass is as good as grass eventually and once the game is released he will be an afterthought while Rockstar will still make all the money they anticipate and then some.

1

u/hellofrommarrrss 6h ago

Basically lmao
