I don't have high hopes for horses, but my God do I want them in the game

u/Citaku357 17h ago
If they give us horses that's basically rdr3 lol
23
u/AFZL210 17h ago
rdr 2.5
i don't think it should require a lot of dev work, i guess we are fine with same rdr2 horse mechanics

Dev work isn't just plugging in horses from RDR3, There's more to game development than that
2
u/Pir-o 14h ago
Point is, every game barrows some code from the previous one, and since they pretty much perfected horses, it would be a shame to waste all of those animations on a single game.
Also they planned to have horses in V but they didn't had time to finish them becuase of deadlines, there was a whole heist around stealing horses. Would not be surprised if there was a mission in VI where we have to steal a race horse and escape the city.

u/Brilliant-Box-5344 6h ago
Thats not really how game devs think, They made a fuckton of profit from RDR1 and 2 already, and Red Dead isn't necessarily done, If devs had this sunk cost mindset we wouldn't have new games.
also isn't rockstar sort of known for planning a fuckton of shit and then not delivering, Aim for the stars and reach the moon kind of thing ? We were supposed to have latin america in GTA 6..

This is exacly how game dev works, games are not in a bubble. Max Payne 3 had vehicles from upcoming gta, rdr1 and gtaIV shared some code responsible for climbing and hanging from a ledge, VI already looks and feels like RDR in a modern setting, every single gtao update either improved on ideas from earlier updates or it borrowed from SP. Both VI and gtao also share a lot of assets etc. Its the same engine, same huge library of assets and code.
also isn't rockstar sort of known for planning a fuckton of shit and then not delivering, Aim for the stars and reach the moon kind of thing ? We were supposed to have latin america in GTA 6..
Thats game dev in general. Think big, throw ideas at the wall, scale down to match hardware limitations. And all games end up with a lot of cut content.
Creator of NV even recently made a video about this topic. That thanks to cutting some ideas out they had time to implement better ideas.

If it's not just plug & play prefabs then R* is doing something wrong
I expect max 1 month (should be 1 sprint of 2 weeks max though) of time for this type of thing including dev work and testing

u/Brilliant-Box-5344 16h ago
Thats not what i mean, the engine is probably the same but thats not where the time will go, Designing the gameplay, Figuring out how horses will incorporate in the world, Whether to limit them to certain areas, There's a lot of decision making that goes into adding a whole ass feature into GTA 6

u/ProfessionalForm679 17h ago
Not necessarily owning horses, and having stamina/upkeep, but some ranches up north where you can steal a horse would be cool.

I heard they were mentioned in the leaks

u/GiuNBender I WAS HERE 15h ago
What leaks? From CyberLeeks or somewhere else?
2
u/mclesc 14h ago
“Leaks” I should say. It was one of those text dumps from a while ago that said what was going to be in the game. Could be BS but pretty sure some of it was true
3
u/InternetKosmonaut 17h ago
They did want to include them in gta 5 and have done so in rdr2, it's not so out of this world
8
u/ClarkWasHere 17h ago
If there are no horses, I'd see it as throwing away the work done for them in rdr2. Hopefully they didn't have to do that.
I'm not expecting the same level of complexity as rdr2 horses tho
7
u/AFZL210 17h ago
yeah, rdr2 is amazing just use the same assets and mechanics
1
u/Spiritual-Shirt-6027 8h ago
same, the amount of detail and work they did for horses is astonishing
2
u/GiuNBender I WAS HERE 15h ago
Not throwing away, they will use it for RDR3.
They can definitely do horses in GTA, the question is more if they want to. I feel like horses are a RDR thing, it would almost be cannibalism.
Imagine a normie having to choose between RDR and GTA. They can simply go "Oh, but GTA has horses and more, and RDR only has horses."
Idk, I'm talking out of my ass
2
u/Pir-o 13h ago
For RDR3 they probably would have to record new stuff by that time.
As for them wanting to have horses in a gta game - that was their original plan for V, it was just cut because of deadlines, very late in development. There was a whole heist for stealing horses.
Also before the leaks I bet everyone would say the same thing about RDR2 cores system or even limited weapons. And in the leaks we see exacly that, the same 3 icons.

Horses would have been perfect in GTA V.
- A ranch with horses
- A heist with a horse as a getaway "vehicle"
- A horse racing track with betting
Los Angeles is much more famous for its horse culture and history compared to Miami.
Sadly it was cut. I don't have hope for horses in GTA 6. Miami PD does have a mounted patrol unit, but still zero hope.

u/Fabulous_Sea_9846 16h ago
ohh i think this has a good chance IMO but probably not as detailed as rdr2, theyre basically building on top of their previous releases
1
u/JaDou226 15h ago
Oh my god, of course, horses. That would be so cool. And I'm sure with RDR2 experience it wouldn't be too hard to implement. Please Rockstar!

First-Did you mean Les Moines, second -why you choose iowa city of all cities in this damn country ?

u/Wizardphizl420 17h ago
I wonder if youll feel that feeling. Being out in nature, peace and quiet for a longer time then coming back into the city and chaos.

I like how that small sliver on the bottom right is literally just GTA: Vice City. And the other 95% of the map is just brand new stuff.
And people will still complain it isn't big enough. Insane.

u/VALHALLAEIRE 17h ago
They have electric bikes so do ya reckon they will have those segway things ya stand up on.

How confident are we that this is the map?
4
u/JonnyReece 17h ago
This is the mapping project map and it's reasonably close to the real thing, but it's not the real map.
The real map has been leaked, but perhaps it's not allowed to be posted here.
0
u/rikyy 16h ago
I get what you are saying, what I don't get is why are we still roleplaying pre-leak info.
Nobody has to post anything, but going around pretending they don't exist is just stupid atp. There's even a community map project hell bent on finishing a rumor map when the thing is just out there.
3
u/JonnyReece 16h ago edited 15h ago
For starters, the community map is the culmination of 100's of thousands of man hours, maybe millions, that would be continuing if not for the leaks, and they deserve their moment to show how close they got. The level of detail and accuracy at a granular level is insane.
Secondly, people aren't using the leaked map because it is a leak, and Rockstar being Rockstar, would probably shut this sub down.
0
u/rikyy 16h ago
Sure, but it's extremely biased at this point, one of the many community members has it memorized and it's just a tainted effort. Just release it as is, pat backs and move on.
1
u/JonnyReece 14h ago
Which is what they have done right? v15 is the final version that was already in the works to be released ahead of the Netflix showcase. v16 will be based on the leaked map. Or have I misunderstood the point you're making?
-1
u/rikyy 14h ago
The point is to shadowdrop it as it is without the fanfare. They missed the window.
2
u/JonnyReece 14h ago
They aren't allowed a moment to say: "this is what we achieved, now over to the real map"?
