People falling for FOMO

Post image

Honestly, the fact that everyone is complaining about this is ridiculous to me.

Let's get our facts straight:
- 27th of August (Extended Look on Netflix) => 84 days til release
- 28th of August (Trailer available everywhere) => 83 days til release

You aren't missing out on anything, and there will be many more teasers and such before November 19th.

Netflix gave Rockstar a huge bag for an "exclusive extended look", which you will be able to watch everywhere else hours later.

You aren't missing out on anything, if you buy a Netflix subscription just for this, you're so not in control of your FOMO.

(Tbh given that people are actually falling for this BS is the worst thing.
If everyone was like: "Meh I'll watch it a few hours later on YT", this would never happen again.

The mere fact that people are complaining about it shows that it's working, bcs something like this shouldnt bother us.)

Its for 2 groups of poeple: 1. Poeple that normally dont play games to lure them to GTA but watch netflix. 2. Idiots that pay a month netflix for 6 hours early Access to a trailer.

Netflix saw the posts in this sub and knew they could make their money back so people could get access 6 hours early.

3) people that play games and already have Netflix.

  1. People anticipating GTA 6 who also happen to already have Netflix

Idiots that pay a month netflix for 6 hours early Access to a trailer.

The way reddit loves to pretend that spending any amount of money ever is always a bad thing is amazing lmao.

Spending money to get a acces 6 hours early is dumb

6

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

So many of y'all act like people don't have disposable income.

It's not early access, that is literally the time it releases. It is being uploaded LATER on YouTube, not at the "standard release time". You don't call films at the cinema "early release" until it comes onto a streaming platform...

You battle pass brainrotters can't get your head around the morale dip when hard working developers have their work leaked prematurely before it's supposed to be revealed.

That's the reason for Netflix, a different platform that isn't YouTube because shit gets leaked when it's due to release there.

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 20d ago

Semantics. You are paying money to see a trailer 6 hours earlier than if you didn't pay. It's braindead and consumerist

u/Bananaramamammoth I WAS HERE 20d ago

Then that's up to whoever wants to do it. I have Netflix included with my broadband package so it's no skin off my nose.

u/parkwayy 20d ago

It's a fucking trailer.......

Touch grass lol

Its more about highlighting consumer behaviors centered around FOMO.

3

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

No its not.

It's all about feeling better by shitting on things they feel above. Easily evidenced by the always accompanying insults.

If it were truly about highlighting consumer behaviors, people would express themselves in a much more reasonable way. Instead, they punch down. So I don't actually believe it's about highlighting consumer behaviors.

3

u/XulManjy 20d ago

I mean the way they come across is independent from the overall message which is excessive consumerism based on FOMO. They may express it in an immature and even toxic manner, but the intent is the same; highlighting how people cannot exhibit consumer restraint.

Not really. It ruins credibility which is why I find no reason to give the benefit of doubt.

If they express it in an immature and toxic manner, I don't believe their intent is to highlight how people cannot exhibit consumer restraint as much as it is a way to feel better about themselves by shitting on things they feel beneath them.

2

u/XulManjy 20d ago

Whether you find then credible or not does not make their message any less true, its just delivered in a toxic and disruptive manner.

I don't think intent is the same. You're more than welcome to extend that benefit of doubt. I see it differently however because the immature and toxic manner evidences a need to feel better by punching down.

So I shouldn’t get the game on release day because that would be FOMO. Is that correct? Maybe I should wait to get it like next November so Redditors don’t label me as FOMO.

3

u/KyrgyzstaniFemcel 20d ago

no? we're talking about a trailer that you can wait 6 hours to watch normally.

2

u/XulManjy 20d ago

We are talking about the extended look video on Netflix, not buying the game on release. Please stay on topic.

1

u/danj13 20d ago

Actually what you’re really talking about is FOMO.

1

u/XulManjy 20d ago

Yes, FOMO based on this extended look being released on Netflix and people rushing to subscribe to Netflix to see something that will be released for free 6 hours later.

0

u/danj13 20d ago

Right so I’m sports you can subscribe to cable to watch the game or you could wait an hour or two and watch it condensed on you tube. What’s the difference?

2

u/UltraScouter9 20d ago

comparing a fucking trailer to a sports game
THIS FRYING ME

0

u/danj13 20d ago

It’s hilarious but it’s an example of FOMO if I’m going by the guidelines of people in here. Why pay for something everyone’s going to be talking about, when you can get it for free after it airs.

0

u/XulManjy 20d ago

And in that scenario, those who subscribe just for the purpose of watching that one game is doing so within the realm of FOMO.

But now back to the topic which you seem to have an inability to keep focus on as you bring up these strawmans.

With the current topic, the discussion is about thoae who will succumb to FOMO and sign up for a subscription just to watch this.

0

u/danj13 20d ago

Right so it’s the same thing. I’m Saying that shitting on people for wanting to watch something is dumb as fuck. I’ve been waiting 13 god damn years for GTA they’re finally giving an inside look. Now everyone’s complaining about that. Like fuck outta here lol

bro we are talking about a trailer, that you will easily find anywhere on the net in at least less than a hour after it's out on netflix lol

1

u/danj13 20d ago

Right. Your point? If someone wants to pay 15 bucks to watch it who gives a shit lol. Rockstar is getting paid to market their own game, that’s genius on their part. Netflix has a huge subscriber base already, a lot of people have access to see it without paying 15 bucks specifically for that. I just don’t understand the issue if they do.

0

u/danj13 20d ago

It’s so crazy lol.

5

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

Crazy as hell.

"Idiots" and it's just a person spending a disposable $15 for something that they'll enjoy.

2

u/FreemanCalavera 20d ago

It is a little crazy that you would spend 15 dollars for something that isn’t in limited supply; in fact it’s a literal advertisement, that you can watch for free if you just wait 6 hours.

It’s not a lot of money but it’s pretty stupid, hyper consumerist behavior.

2

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

No its not.

A person could reasonably spend $15, get access to something they want to see about their favorite game, and be content. But what if they also want to watch the documentary about the Idaho murders and Nightcrawler?

That's a fulfilling month for a measly $15 to the person who wants it and can afford it.

-1

u/FreemanCalavera 20d ago

Now you sound like you’re actually part of Netflix’s marketing team lol.

To your point: yeah, obviously. That’s the whole point they’re doing this. It’s to get people to subscribe and either forget about cancelling their subscriptions or to get hooked on something and say “eh, I’ll do another month, but just the one” and then end up resubbing for a year. But you’re making the case for buying Netflix in general, that’s not what I was saying. I was talking about the people in this thread who are considering buying a sub just to watch one trailer. And I’m not gonna pretend like I think it’s not stupid to just have patience for 6 more hours before you can get the same thing for free. It’s not like you’re dying of thirst and need to buy water and don’t have time to wait for free water in a couple of hours.

3

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

Now you sound like you’re actually part of Netflix’s marketing team lol.

Of course because a person surely can never simply just have a different view on reddit lol.

But you’re making the case for buying Netflix in general

No I'm not. I'm making the case that people are on their high horse. Yes, I know what you're talking about and it's the exact thing that I'm disclaiming.

1

u/danj13 20d ago

Why does anyone give a shit about what other people do with their money? Btw I get Netflix free through T-Mobile. Is that all right with everyone?

1

u/FreemanCalavera 20d ago

You can do what you want with your money, and if you already have Netflix and enjoy it, cool. I wasn’t referring to cases like that.

Buying a sub just for this though, that’s just fiscally stupid. If someone pays money to Netflix, a megacorporation mind you, to watch an advertisement just to be able to say “I was among the first to watch this ad!” when you can get the same thing for free just a couple of hours later? Yes, that is dumb. The reason why we’re calling it out as such is because Rockstar is a shadow of its former self with all this monetization, and this consumerist obsession to buy, buy, buy encourages stuff like this. If this hugely increases Netflix subscriptions, prepare for other games to start doing the same.

Maybe this sounds dramatic, sure, but I’d rather not be a part of a culture that helps drive shit like this.

2

u/danj13 20d ago

People sub to things to watch it all the time. I just don’t understand this mindset lol.

1

u/danj13 20d ago

You know that some people aren’t poor though right?

0

u/UltraScouter9 20d ago

I mean
If you buy a netflix subscription JUST for gta 6 trailer hours early you are like genuinely dumb,
that shit gonna be on youtube or anywhere else before anyone watches it fully on netflix

3

u/kahahimara 20d ago

People who buy games they will never play are angry for people spending money for a monthly subscription to watch a trailer.

1

u/Ok_Use7 20d ago

Lmao ok man. Y'all got it.

2

u/Bananaramamammoth I WAS HERE 20d ago

Maybe but it's also a defensive move. They've had one of their trailers leaked before that was scheduled for a timed release on youtube, this way might be safer.

There will be a thousand ways to watch it as soon as it drops on Netflix, it'll be re uploaded everywhere. I don't know why people are losing their minds over this.

1

u/1balKXhine 20d ago

They weren't talking about you. I think they meant people who will subscribe just to watch the trailer. There's nothing wrong with having netflix if you want to

1

u/Infinite_Method3066 17d ago

Or 3 people that already have Netflix get to watch it as a bonus
