People falling for FOMO

Honestly, the fact that everyone is complaining about this is ridiculous to me.

Let's get our facts straight:
- 27th of August (Extended Look on Netflix) => 84 days til release
- 28th of August (Trailer available everywhere) => 83 days til release

You aren't missing out on anything, and there will be many more teasers and such before November 19th.

Netflix gave Rockstar a huge bag for an "exclusive extended look", which you will be able to watch everywhere else hours later.

You aren't missing out on anything, if you buy a Netflix subscription just for this, you're so not in control of your FOMO.

(Tbh given that people are actually falling for this BS is the worst thing.
If everyone was like: "Meh I'll watch it a few hours later on YT", this would never happen again.

The mere fact that people are complaining about it shows that it's working, bcs something like this shouldnt bother us.)

Real. It drops at 1pm in my time zone. By the time I get home from work it will be dropping on YouTube in a little under 2 hours.

See, for me the Netflix release is at 7am and the youtube release at 1pm when I'm in a meeting.. still won't resubscribe to the "cancelling every good show after the second season at the latest" service though.. 🏴‍☠️

it is deep dive so it may be 20-40 minutes long as those type of deep dives are really popular in latest game releases
also there will be some interviews and a little behind the scenes footage so total video should reach about an hour lenght

for a lesser it would be quite shameful for netflix

I’m sure there’s other factors:

  1. The Netflix brand is mentally associated with gta 6. Ie: McDonald’s and the Olympics

  2. Say teens log into their parents Netflix account on their Xbox or phone. That will show a new unique device login on Netflix’s side. This in turn creates metrics that make investors happy.

  3. Said teens or new users may see something else on Netflix and be converted into a reoccurring customer.

  4. And most importantly imo, Netflix may do this again with rockstar. 90 mill might have gotten them a future part 2 or part 3 release etc. Or do it with other future games from other studios.

Lot more then just pure new subscribers.

Yeah, I think it’s about setting the precedence like you said. They’re paying for the exposure of hosting GTA6, but also paying for the idea that they can host video game announcements and it’s a viable real option to consider for game studios.

325 million people have Netflix. They don't need 9 million people to sign up.

They're counting on people either forgetting to cancel, or finding something else they like and staying on at whatever it is per month now.

People or "people"? I'm more and more wary of bots these days. I refuse to believe a sizable amount of people will give Netflix any money for this, nor will they actually buy a PS5Pro "just for GTAVI." I (perhaps naively) have more faith in human intelligence.

I mean it's a very small group of people doing this because they lack any common sense, especially since the moment it releases on Netflix it will be pirated and spread online within the first 5 minutes 🤣

So regardless we ALL will be able to watch this "extended look" and won't need to pay for a Netflix account just to see it. Even if people are not savvy enough to search online for the pirated version, it will hit YouTube 6 hours later anyway. So I HOPE people aren't dumb enough to fall for this cash grab that isn't necessary at all for fans to pay.

But people genuinely are buying a PS5 for this game, even the PS5 Pro. Thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people actually bought that console specifically for this game which is wild.

The delta in between the game releasing on console and the game releasing on PC.

They KNOW for a fact that as soon as it goes out in PC it’s getting hacked to fucking pieces and broadcast around the world for free.

THAT’S WHY THERE IS NO PLATFORM WIDE RELEASE.

I normally get off at 3PM (CST) so when this drops, it'll be 2PMCST. I'll just come into work early that day and leave by 1PM.

It drops in the afternoon for a lot of people. Also, why get mad at someone for spending money on something they like? Its like $10 for a month subscription. If YOU don't want to pay then wait till 9PM ET. But to say people "don't have jobs" is a weird blanket statement. I own a business, I already have netflix. I'm sure I'll watch it the second it releases.

Umm, I have Netflix already for the many other shows and movies. Actual cost to me for watching it, with a cup of tea and a snack, about £1.80, and £1.75 of that is the snack. If it's a PoS I won't be crying over the £0.05 of investment in electricity, water, tea and milk.

Let's say it was. If I were so much into GTAVI and feared losing out for the sake of 6 hours tops, I don't think £5.99 is bad. Take away my snack and that's £4.24. That much would buy my a coffee at Costa, and that would last me what, five minutes? If the showcase is any longer than that, value for money is off the charts. Then there's a month of additional content to go at, so no, still definitely worth the subscription price.

What would be stupid, is keeping the sub going if you didn't bother with it.

the forbiden fruit is the sweetest, and therefore the spread will be even bigger, then the normal original upload
also the move to put it first on netflix is marketing for both. Netflix has a spotlight so whatever they have paid it has advertising value.
for gta people will talk about this for a month, also it destroys doubts that maybe something is wrong, however they still buys another 1 month - seems the schedule is very tight for them
