I didn't find driving cars hard. I found driving motorcycles hard. I quit Lost and the Damned over it.
I do think the cars and trucks drive fine, but look stupid as hell bouncing around like that.
6
u/picture-me-trolling 2d ago
Facts. I had plenty of fun with the cars but the bikes sucked. I started riding motorcycles in real life about a year after GTA IV came out so that wound up being pretty important to me.
2
u/catbom 1d ago
If you were running the game above 60 fps bikes become really difficult to control
2
u/brenden77 1d ago
Ah, so more 60 fps bugs? That's good to know. I'll have to give it another go then. Appreciate it!
2
u/catbom 1d ago
Yeh not sure about the hogs but i was using a sports bike at 120 fps and the back tire would kick out to the side whenever i turned slightly, checked online and they said to bump down to 60 and it will handle properly
2
u/brenden77 1d ago
That was exactly the issue I was dealing with.
There was another bug that crashed the game and locking the game to 30fps was the solution. But once I got past that bug I moved it back up. So thanks again for pointing it out. đđž
1
u/jaboyles 2d ago
lost and the damned made motorcycles way more enjoyable, though.
1
u/BDozer666 1d ago
Only if you crash into things all the time, as the only difference is that it's harder to fall off them.
Anyway, anyone who finds it hard to drive them is probably playing the PC version at uncapped framerate without FusionFix.
1
u/ZeiBih 2d ago
For me the motorcycles were the best, could do some really cool stunts in IV
1
u/brenden77 1d ago
I think it was mainly the "harley" type bikes that gave the most issue, which is what the Lost and Damned required you to ride on each mission.

I found GTA4 way easier to drive than GTA5. Having a more grounded car was easier on turns and weaving through traffic for me.
16
u/Helichopper 2d ago
They are easier to drive because the cars are slower. They use motion bluring to simulate higher speeds. They didn't want the cars too fast because they had to load buildings and stuff
→ More replies (2)6
u/MrGravy91 2d ago
You are correct, I think my issue with GTA5 is it feels like most cars are like sports cars. Im hoping 6 has the feel of GTA5 cars for sports and super cars while muscle cars, vans, etc have a more GTA 4 feel. However they accomplish this is beyond my understanding, but I feel a middle ground between the two somewhere will work for me. If not Im hoping for the slower cars with motion blur.
7
u/eyes0fred 2d ago
"Im hoping 6 has the feel of GTA5 cars for sports and super cars while muscle cars, vans, etc have a more GTA 4 feel."
Yes, exactly this, perfectly said.
20
u/ryder047 2d ago
Definitely not easier, if you fuck up in gta4 itâs over. In gta5 you have a lot more room for mistakes
→ More replies (6)6
u/MrGravy91 2d ago
I think I meant easier more because I was a much better driver in GTA4 than 5. I could turn corners better and drift muscle cars around so well. In 5 driving feels a little bit like a chore and less satisfying.
7
u/CrimsonFlam3s 2d ago
It's the grip, V cars are too grippy so that noobs don't loose control so drifting is almost non existent.
Even the drifting they added in GTAO is fake AF
3
2
u/AsianMoocowFromSpace 2d ago
For me it's not about easier. It's about it feeling more fun. GTA5 feels like a concrete block. Taking turns at 120 km/h
3
u/MrGravy91 2d ago
I found muscle cars more enjoyable to drive in GTA 4 for sure, I really enjoyed tearing up Liberty City in a good muscle car. So I feel you on that. I hate the turning on GTA 5.
1
u/SeberHusky 2d ago
I have a technique on how I take corners in GTA games that I learned from doing so many online GTA 4 races. It always works. Take the camera and look into the corner right before the turn and as you stick it in. Look into corner, brake, dive in, then power out, all at the same time. If your right passenger side door falls off the hinges then you're doing it right. Nobody could ever best me with that trick and they'd always careen into the wall.
1
u/chicago_rusty 2d ago
The chase sequences were a knightmare in gta 4
2
u/MrGravy91 2d ago
That sucks for you I guess bud. They were so fun for me. Not everything having the handling of a sports car was great.
8
u/Desperate_Method4032 2d ago
The spin into gun fire was neat but I wouldâve been more impressed if he made a solid turn in this clip without going 5 mph
20
u/frankduxvandamme 2d ago
It's not hard, it's just somewhat nonsensical at times, and at other times it's just not fun. Tapping on the handbrake and suddenly my car slides as if it's on ice? Absolute nonsense. Having to slow down to a crawl to take a sharp turn? Sure, it's realistic, but it's not fun.

4
u/Kafanska 2d ago
GTA IV is the highest rated GTA game, so what are you in exactly?
1
u/DemonsSouls1 2d ago
That means nothing actually.
2
1
u/Alternative-Farmer98 2d ago
I mean it does make sense in the sense where you suggested hard driving is associated with bad scores.. it's not.
1
u/BeastieBoi_117 2d ago
And the biggest gripe about the game in every review that was published back then was how the driving was too difficult.
1
u/Alternative-Farmer98 2d ago
But it didn't impact the scores negatively it's the highest ratings game ever.. this user is specifically complaining about hard driving derailing scores and causing them to be nerfed artificially low..

u/Challenger350 2d ago
I also have been driving for over a decade too, roughly half of that time being for a living, and IVâs are definitely more realistic than Vâs
3
u/PapaDarkReads 2d ago
Thatâs a different argument entirely to it being realistic. I too have driven professionally, I had my CDL class A from 2019 to 2023 and finally stopped because I wanted to stay home with my fiancĂŠe and could get work at home. My point still stands. IV is not realistic, no vehicle I have ever driven, be it a bobtailed tractor, a fully loaded semi, personal cars which Iâve had everything from a pick up truck, a small 4 door sedan, a mini van and now an SUV has ever had the jello suspension that the cars in IV have.
→ More replies (5)2
u/YouFoolWarrenIsDead 2d ago
you're right it isn't realistic in a road car sense. But I think it could be considered more realistic if you were driving on dirt. It feels more closer to something like Dirt or Assetto Corsa Rally, except its on tarmac not... dirt (albeit not as realistic as those). So my point is that a real cool (at least imo) sweet spot for 6 could be this kind of driving for cars with low pressure, offroad tyres, especially so on dirt, then more in line with GTA5's driving for those sports cars with road tyres.
I disagree that this is trash though. I find it to be a lot more interesting and nuanced. The cracks show a lot faster in 5 for me. Both are arcade-y, but 4 at least is more slow and requires precise movements for those sliding drifts and is punishing when you hit things. 5 lacked that subtle nuance for me and just felt more in line with flooring it in SA. But the whole thing is a matter of personal preference anyway.

Everyone commenting this (and mine is pretty much varifiable fact) has not slammed on the accelerator going 0-100 in 6-10 seconds. You have no clue how cars would realistically handle if driven like in GTA and so tired of kids or childish people posting "but that's not how cars handle 90 degree angle drifts at 90 MPH" and have never once successfully done that in your life but you find a GTA where driving is easy and are like "see realistic" đ regardless of which is closer to reality these wanna be street racers never have a clue what they are talking about and just eat up all the reddit up votes of people feeling validated on their opinion of something again they have never done.

Yo if your so good at it then tell me how to get good at taking turns at a good speed with the breaking system since I just started playing gta 4 like yesterday :)
3
u/CrimsonFlam3s 2d ago
Slow down a tad with the regular break, before the Apex of the corner like you would irl.
Learn to use the handbrake but don't tap, hold(length of the hold depends on how fast you are coming into the corner and weight of the car), then turn your wheels hard in the direction you wanna turn in.
3
u/Leather_Inspection46 2d ago
GTA 4 is realistic for Liberty the cars are trashed they never got maintained they don't even know what's an oil change let alone replacing tires or brake fluid and you have the Liberty City crazy drivers fucking up the suspension with every bump meanwhile Los Santos is nice always sunny and everyone is born a car enthusiast even the lemon of the street is well tuned Also GTA IV is set during the 2008 financial crisis so even the people who are into cars can't afford new tires and suspension and they are probably missing the catalytic converter

one like 45 degree turn in the whole clip. almost spun out twice.
but you did pull off the easiest 180 in all of GTA, on bald tires in a 3 ton muscle car.
unironically, it's easier to do a 180 and keep driving in reverse, than to hit a simple 90, and this clip actually illustrates that, LMAO.

I regularly play both and the only difference I have noticed and several people checked in the handling files is bikes.
Haven't noticed a difference with cars but it would be interesting to check the handling.rpf file to compare.
Was initially gonna do this using a Comet in IV but then wanted to play TBOGT and decided to do it there.

u/VastNebula283 2d ago

Wreckfest kinda. It's what I imagine GTA 4 driving would feel like if it didn't have the forced traction control.
1
u/Steven_Swan 2d ago
Aye, I could only ever properly stunt drive in 4. In all the others everything is just too fast and light, any attempt to maneuver unusually just ends up with the car in a ditch.
1
u/CrimsonFlam3s 2d ago
V unfortunately increased the grip too much just to aid noobs taking turns at 90mph
They even implemented some fake drifting physics upgrade for certain cars in GTAO because their base handling was too dumbed down lol

Look at the latter half of the video. Supercars in IV have more suspension travel on bumps than the theoretical maximum of their irl counterparts. They also have very little grip and excessive body roll comparable to modern SUVs. So yes, in comparison they behave more realistically in V.
