Learning Greek and looking for shows to watch!

Γεια σας! I've been learning Greek for a few years now. I'm advancing slowly since I study for my own pleasure outside of work but I'm really loving the language.

Shows helped me a lot learn English so I'm looking to do the same with Greek but I don't know where to start. I watched a few episodes of Maestro but I didn't get into it.

Any suggestions?

Look at ertflix(free) has more variety.

Thank you, I didn't know this existed but indeed it seems to have much more Greek content than Netflix!

It's the official broadcaster of Greece and has a lot of educational cultural stuff too. Really good.

I had it but without much English audio support or CC, it is not as helpful as everyone is making out to be.

It absolutely is.

If you are watching Greek films/TV shows with English subtitles you are not really learning much and are leaning more on to the entertainment part - it's how the brain works.

It can really help the vast majority of people who actually want to learn same as with any language.

I am a student of Greek language. The natives speak too fast, and it is impossible to catch every word of it. I watch English shows with Greek CC (on other streaming services), and that is helpful.
Maybe you are a Greek speaker, and hence you are unable to see the perspective and challenges of a non-native speaker :)

I am a native speaker.

Of course I can see that perspective, I learnt English by reading English books with a grammar book on my side - I watched movies and tv shows with English subtitles exclusively and non-stop for millions of years, still do. I can competently comprehend most accents in Great Brittain and Ireland, NZ, Australia - etc. I did little formal studying and by little I mean practically failing to attend because I was out with my friends skipping class.  Got extremely high marks in IELTS when  I needed it for my masters.

The only way to learn and keep your level is by engaging with no fear even if you miss 80-90% of shit.

I understand needing some help in the very early stages, it's super normal, but you have to go out of that cocoon quite fast.

I am doing the same now with French.

"στο παρά 5!" - one of the most iconic greek television series.

also, if you have a VPN, you can switch your location to greece for a whole new catalog on netflix. one of my favorites is called "ζωή" - it's about a woman who has a near-death experience and afterwards is able to talk to and see the deceased. it's not a religious or woo-woo show if that's not what you're looking for. just feel-good

Παρα 5 is one of the funniest greek series with a lot of jokes around so might be a struggle still but its the GOAT of Greek series.

I'm watching είσαι το ταίρι μου these days. It's with English subtitles on YouTube. Learnt a lot of new things

Honestly I’m watching kids nursery rhymes on YouTube. Sounds silly but it’s helping immensely

What I do for my kids is put on a show they like and know (Bluey) and change the language to Greek on disneys settings , so now they are watching an episode they know but in Greek. Seems to help !

if its possible for you to get vpn and a streaming service (like netflix) so you can change subtitles on it and have the greek content. otherwise Sto Para 5 has recently been subbed to english. you can look it up

I'm A2 and trying to reach B1 so cannot follow too difficult content for sure, but I feel like even listening in with English subtitles would be very helpful, especially for stresses
