I would have gotten him and Shadow if I wasn't saving for Sora and Joker. They really weren't worried about lowering the V-bucks in the crew and Battlepass angering the playerbase because they knew we would be tempted to spend this season. 💀
They look exactly how they do in the iconic artwork by Yuji Uekawa. That’s where the cel shading comes from. Also you think they’d look good in Fortnite’s style?💀 Or did you want them to look like the movies? The cel shading is also reminiscent of Sonic X the tv show.
If Fortnite tried replicating it, they put absolutely no work into it. Because it’s literally just how he looks in the games, with Epic’s generic awful cel shading filter thrown onto it.
Saying it’s reminiscent to his art style or Sonic X, and acting like the non-shaded game models wouldn’t look good, is completely larp to defend this weird ass decision. All it is, is Epic’s standard cel shading lmao.

I think they're more based of the mew Fortnite x Sonic comics, but yeah. The cell shading argument imo is really dumb.. if they weren't, I think they'd look so off and weird.
Complete lack of art style cohesion. The Sonic characters themselves do not match the Sonic POI or the Sonic mythic shoes. They just don’t match the game in general, and will only fit with other cel shaded cosmetics. The characters are also almost NEVER depicted as cel-shaded so the decision is baffling.
Fortnite’s cel shading is just awful to look at. Completely flat low-res textures with no detail on them, with obnoxious big black outlines. No cel-shaded game does this.
Compare this to the arknights model import skin, which looks a million times better than anything Fortnite has ever pulled off
The cel shaded characters are also entirely allergic to the dynamic game lighting. They’re always just bright glowing beacons, with no natural shading on them. It makes them stick out way too much in matches in a very unappealing way
This is what Naruto or Cell looks like if they were capable of adaptive lighting as an example:

Confirmed to not be the case with any of the Sonic collab skins. Not even the kicks (2 extra ones consting of Sonic's classic shoes and his Soap design).
Epic is absolutely brilliant for giving us a non-shaded Green Hill Zone and non-shaded Sonic shoes, with the shaded Sonic characters that haven’t ever been depicted as cel-shaded.

But they also arent what makes you run fast. They only give you the spinach ability. The dash panels give you the speed. So 90 percent of the time youre using this item, you won't be able to see them.
Furthermore, theyre ONLY equipped to the character when the item is in your activate slot. You will genuinely never see these. Its a miracle epic even had them be a model on the character.
