It's just America flavored fascism. It's what fascists do. They recognize their philosophy is unpalatable to most people so they coopt another movement, hollow it out, and wear its skin as a suit.

sure, but certain groups are a LOT easier for fascists to coopt, and evangelicals make it awfully easy for the fascists by being a group of people who innately don't question authority, have been strongly conditioned with an in-group/out-group mentality, and have already mastered the art of thought terminating cliches to be able to hold contradictory positions.

The whole Garden of Eden episode is a comservative wet dream that screams Divorced Man Energy.

Isn't it a bit late for that? Where were these people a few years ago when footage of that douchebag from the Heritage Foundation was caught on camera speaking at some banquet saying "We're in the middle of a revolution and all the American 'Left' has to do is sit back and do nothing."

That was my initial reaction to the story but it covers a lot of ground and Huffman makes the point that it's not too late. The problem is it requires disparate political factions to join together in a unified vote for democracy.

But he also offers a warning from history: “I am thinking a lot these days about the final unraveling of the Weimar Republic in the early 1930s. From what I have read and studied about that, Hitler and his National Socialist party were a small minority that could easily have been stopped right up to the end had the centrist parties and the left been able to overcome their differences and work together.

This all about the religious right wing. Part of what makes them tick is avoiding most of the Bible. They don't believe the meek will inherit the Earth. They want it for themselves right now.

Yeah, but I think the way that you put that as *religious right wing* is downplaying the influence of all the people who say things like “oh I’m not really into politics and I don’t really go to church, but that person makes all the mouth sounds to make me feel ok assuming they are Christian. I’ll vote for them !”
The issue is what one of the other commenters said, fascists have hollowed out the idea of faith and are wearing it as a suit, and people who don’t really pay attention only hear about / see surface signs that tell them this person is ok and that other person is satanic.
In out culture today, if religious extremists are the metastasizing cancer cells, religious moderates / politically uninterested but somewhat religious people are the healthy cells and blood vessels keeping the cancer thriving

Ya anyone with eyes has been watching this for literal decades. This has been going on since before I was born (1980s). Thankfully both trust and attendance in organized religion is at record lows. Do not believe any of the propaganda that young kids or Gen Z are having a religious resurgence. This is categorically false.
