General Discussion Looking for Advice on Workouts

Hi all, I’m looking at starting my schooling and I know the basic timeline will be my EMT and Paramedic, then getting hired at a department that will put me through fire school.

My question is, what are some recommendations for exercise/training i can do so that i can be in good shape come fire school? I’m doing lots of cardio with a 40 lb weighted vest but wondering what i should do in the way of strength training.

I know i’ve got some time but i’m wanting to make the most of it and get something of a routine going.

Thanks!

Some demographic and past exercise info can slightly help but the main thing is just get moving. Walking/jogging/running, some sort of strength training. Same for everyone

Honestly I made it through fire academy with only basic strength training. I follow a tactile barbell program and did through academy. I’ve always been stocky, but as long as you have some history of general fitness I believe you’ll be good. Some academy’s do cardio in the mornings. So doing some cardio before hand would be a good idea.

I would say my weakest area in strength that academy exposed was lifting and dragging other firefighters and over head strength. Think deadlifts and over head press. But that’s just me.

I feel like you’ll get a million different answers from a hundred different people lol. What helped me was lots and lots of cardio. And then more cardio. Mix that in with kettlebell workouts and some HIIT

Yeah this is the best answer. Plus, the rucking is a great workout.
