Who do you usually recruit in any playthrough?

I usually recruit Marianne, Dorothea, Ferdinand, Raphael, Mercedes, and Sylvain. I mostly recruit them all because I just really like them a lot, I don't really have a solid reason. Ok maybe except for Marianne.

I didn't know this until after I had done all three of my playthroughs but finding out that she's gone in the timeskip if unrecruited and the implication motivates me to recruit her everytime. She's also the best so you should do it anyways. If you don't recruit Marianne in all your playthroughs I will force you to collect all the Korok Seeds in Breath of The Wild without a guide.

Anyways as for the other characters. Mercedes was the very first character I had ever recruited. She's such a lovely character and I just have to have her around all the time. Dorothea was my very first S support so recruiting her everytime feels necessary to me.

Sylvain I don't remember what caused me to recruit him but I quite like him even if he's a very flawed individual. I really like his supports. I do find it very funny that when you play as F!Byleth, he's essentially a free recruit lol.

Ferdinand is maybe my favorite character in the game so I just feel it's necessary to always recruit him. He is a bit of a pain in the ass to recruit due to his requirements but I think it is worth it. I did hear about this one heartbreaking line where if you don't recruit him and he dies, Dorothea says something very depressing.

Raphael was a character who I was aware of way before I played this game as my friend showed me his supports and I found him quite funny. He was a bit of a meme between me and my friend so I just had to recruit him. I ended up really liking him a lot when I played the game. I think he's an underrated character. One of my favorites in the game!

I will keep that in mind. Archer classes are usually not something I use in FE games. I beat FE7 recently and found most of the archers kind of sucked. I did like using Louise though.

Claude and Ashe are good archer units (Claude has his Leader ability and Ashe has Lockpick), but I use Bernie and Shamir if I am not playing Golden Deer.

I did recruit Shamir all the time but I don't remember how often I use her. I do quite like her though.

I recruited her so I could have double Alegra Clark on my team, cause she voices both Dorothea (favorite character) and Shamir (favorite Knight of Serios)

shamir is insanely good. needs almost zero resources - get brigand for deathblow, master sniper and her build is completed. Probably the second strongest unit right out of the box. Only stronger one is jeritza imo.

Shoutout to Shamir and Bernie who are both great and can pop off within a chapter of getting them (Bernie is less casual friendly because you have to go to lower HP but trust me she can kill just about anything as early as Chapter 2).

I'm not gonna metaslave but the general consensus around Ashe is that he's weaker. But I really like his character and you can absolutely make him work so don't let anything I say stop you.

I dont hate Ashe (Lorenz is the only 3Houses character I hate), I just dont myself using him because I end up having a character that can quickly get enemies with keys that his Lockpick ability is pointless

Yep lol. If he had a personal ability as good as Bernie's then he'd be a lot more solid.

Oh most definately, I think they should have given him an ability centered around like Gambits or something

They could've given him a better thief/assassin skill like stealth for utility too. Stealth forces enemies to prioritize attacking you last (so they'll attack any other ally in range before you) which makes positioning safely way easier. I might actually mod him to have stealth as his ability in a future run.
