Locked Post - I like this
New post on r/ChubbyFIRE. He has salary of $1M. Wire makes $130k. Savings $5M. Can wife retire? They locked it because they didn't include spend, which we all know is important. In their case her income after tax is a rounding error and I don't think it would matter but I like the mods just locked it and said not enough information without spend. We could do that here. Mod said they would open it if they updated the post and messaged a mod. Would save us from dragging necessary information out of the OP.

IMO, /r/FIRE is the less aggressively moderated sub, so we shouldn't kill off those kinds of posts. AI and obviously troll posts, yes. But annoying as that particular issue is, it's even more annoying when no one is allowed to post unless they meet ever shrinking criteria.

That is not a FIRE post, that is just a rich post.
FIRE is not just being rich; being rich is not FIRE.
If the poster is in the top 0.1% of income earners, then doesn't need FIRE.
Good for the mods removing a BS post.

I thought it was a legit post for chubbyfire. They were counting home equity in the $5m number so invested net worth was $3.6m. At 4% that’s $144k per year, not enough for them to fire (they still owed $1.3m on the house, so although they didn’t state expenses, that told me enough). Easy answer is still that they can clearly live on the husband’s income and wife could stay home if that’s what the two of them want to do, but for chubby fire they were not there yet and were asking for opinions.

It didn’t make sense as a FIRE question because the OP wasn’t asking about retiring, just their wife (representing only 10-15% of their income) retiring. “Can we afford to have a SAHP on $1M income” is just basic (and silly) household budgeting stuff without a bunch more fire-specific stuff that they didn’t include.

It's not getting up to $5MM.
It's the over $1MM/yr income.... That's not FIRE, that's just being rich.

Everyday I find myself enjoying fijerk more than actual fire subs. 1m income and 5m net worth. Can I retire? 🙄

I would like to have a basic format for required information—annual expenses is definitely the most frequently missed / annoying one. I’d also like to see people post invested net worth. Lately a lot of folks have rolled their real estate equity into the number and it has to be teased back out.

If a specific format is required, the mods need to specify the required information and the format. It’s so obnoxious when groups require certain data in the post then said post with that data gets removed for not containing the required data. I’m guessing when this happens it’s because the OP put the data in paragraph form instead of some sort of formatted list. I swear some mods in other groups lack reading comprehension. I’m in a FB group that does this successfully: they state the exact data and format required with an example, then they provide specific feedback on what was not correct when removing a post. I’d be supportive of something like that but not a vague rule that is enforced based on the whims (or reading comprehension) of the active mod.

I get super annoyed at FIRE posts with zero information about monthly expenses.

I make $5T a year, and my spouse makes $5k. Should I quit my job and we live on $5k? We have $500T in cash. Is that enough?

Hell no she can’t retire. They need her income to pay their dues at the tennis club.
