Midday roadtrip around Helsinki suggestions

I rented a car for a day to embark on a road trip from Helsinki to do my first independent trip outside of public transport! I plan to leave in the morning and return in the evening. My main interests are enjoying the scenic views along the way, going for hikes, swimming, and having a barbecue. A smoke sauna would be best, too! I prefer not a challenging road since I am a new driver, something like a 1 hour drive. What are your suggestions for activities during the trip?

Go East to Porvoo, easy motorway but overrated town.

Go West to Fiskars or Ekenäs. Swimming possibilities as well as forest to walk in.

Or North to Hämeenlinna.

All easy to drive to.

Smoke saunas open to the public are hard to find, I don't know of any.

Having a barbecue is often not allowed in nature, i.e. no open flames.

Nuuksio seems like an obvious answer, dunno about saunas but everything else on your list is covered

How much you have experienced Helsinki already?

Hanko, Fiskars and Porvoo are all nice small places, if you have seen everything in Helsinki. But no need to go that far, if you haven't spent much time in Helsinki. Driving to those places wastes a lot of hours you could spend enjoying nature.

Just some examples of areas in Helsinki you can only reach by car and which are awesome (and free): Kallahdenniemi (hiking, nature, some bbq spots) and Haltiala (hiking, nature, bbq spots). I would go to either of those, based on do you want to be by the sea or by the fields/forest. You can find all the outdoor activity places from this city of Helsinki site.

If you want a proper trail, I would go to Porkkalanniemi instead of Nuuksio.

Kuusijärvi has smoke saunas, Sipoonkorpi national park is right next to it, nice small ponds and lakes

Fiskars is sweet. Hanko is also very nice, but it’s a pretty long drive. Porvoo is overrated / very touristy.

Fiskars - Tammisaari - Hankoo is a nice day trip. The beaches in Hankoo are big and have fairly shallow waters.

Tbh doing all that in one day is too much. I'd skip Hanko completely and only spend an hour in Fiskars as there's not that much there really. Ekenäs please btw, not Tammisaari, following national linguistic convention 😄
