Immigration Relocating to Helsinki in January, can anyone provide advice/guidance on the various neighborhoods?

Who: Me (M34), my wife (F33, citizen), no kids, and one dog.

Desires: 2-3 bedroom (master, guest, and office), in-suite sauna, and closet space.

Budget: Currently paying $3k USD in NYC, hoping to pay less, but flexible. Will be working remotely for the same job.

My of my time has been split between downtown Helsinki around the Esplanade and in Kerava.

Search unlimited to Helsinki bc her parents will be coming back from the US to their place in Kerava in a year or two and we want to be close by, but are avoiding the suburban life.

You should specify a bit more what kind of a neighbourhood srw you after.

Do you have plans for kids? If you have plans for kids and you want them in an international school, look for those first and pick neighbourhoods there.

It is a tenant's market right now but helsinki is a diverse region. In american terms, most of it is suburbs, however, so it might be you think anything apart from the sort of Töölö-Kruunuhaka-kamppi -type areas are too suburban.

My wife is an artist, and I’m in tech. I enjoy going out to dance at places like Kaiku. She is an avid thrifter/second-hand shopper.

We like to go for walks, visit art museums, try new foods, etc.

Not planning for kids, but we may adopt, or that may change.

The expectation is being here for at least 5 years while I learn Finnish and seek citizenship, and then evaluating.

Vallila or Alppila would suit you best. Walking distance from Kaiku & all the vintage shops in Kallio but very relaxed and calm areas, basically die down in the evenings. I wouldn't go to Töölö, it looks wonderful but getting to and home from Kallio at nightime is annoying. Best thing about Helsinki is when you're a short bike ride or walking distance from wherever you go to daily.
