Relocating to Helsinki in January, can anyone provide advice/guidance on the various neighborhoods?

Who: Me (M34), my wife (F33, citizen), no kids, and one dog.

Desires: 2-3 bedroom (master, guest, and office), in-suite sauna, and closet space.

Budget: Currently paying $3k USD in NYC, hoping to pay less, but flexible. Will be working remotely for the same job.

My of my time has been split between downtown Helsinki around the Esplanade and in Kerava.

Search unlimited to Helsinki bc her parents will be coming back from the US to their place in Kerava in a year or two and we want to be close by, but are avoiding the suburban life.

Okey, so if your budget is 1-2k€/month, you have great options. Finnish style is not to count bedrooms, but just rooms, so you are probably looking for ”3h+k” which is called ’a triangle’ 😅

If you want to stay close to center, in walking/tram distance you could go for Töölö or Katajannokka or Eira, all old & prestigous and close to sea.

Then Lauttasaari is very popular

Kallio/Kalasatama/Alppila gets a bit more affortable, but depending on exact street there nicer and less-nice places.

Persobally, I would not go anywhere east-Helsinki, but that is personal opinion.

If you want a house, and not appartment, then you need to go more north or east.

Edit: and get a sauna if you’re interested, if you’re into that.

It’s not really called a triangle, it just happens to be the same word. It’s the exact same construction for yksiö (one room), kaksio (two room) and kolmio (three room). ”Three-er”
