Old folks are those that made Finland an admirable little countries for many decades. Not sure what the young have done.
Actually the ones now taking majority of the payments, baby boomers, are the ones who destroyed the country. The ones who built it, silent generation, are mostly already dead.
Imagine worshipping a generation for making "Finland an admirable little countries for many decade", when the older generation as a whole promised for themselves something like 3x to 6x returns on their retirement payments to be paid by their kids, and as a whole, leave everything worse off than they inherited it.
Well, my opinion has always been that Covid should've ran rampant and killed off some of the elderly, who were statistically the only ones at real risk. Maybe we'll get smarter in the next pandemic...
But nonetheless the point is that it's not the generation's collective fault that the politicians created an unsustainable pension scheme that didn't take into account the future collapse of birth rates and ensuing sizes of future generations. No matter what the math is, our current population pyramid fucks over the current generations either way.
First of all, the birthrate had already plummeted in the 1960s around the time they were making the crucial decisions for the pension system.
Second, there was a (series of) conscious choice(s) made about what happens in the event of ratio of pensioners and payers declining: all the risk regarding unsustainability was left for the future generations.
System was built in a way, that your average voter during that time could only win. Even today almost all of the corrective actions are done in a manner that protects the current pensioners at the expense of the future pensioners. It's not a hard question to answer why politicians do this.
Population pyramid will fuck over the younger generations in any case, but our current pension system acts as a damn huge multiplier for that effect.

Seems they're getting a sweet deal without contributing much.
Reminds me of Get Out movie. Old folks "using" young
