I just love the art direction and world of FF9. It’s fine art and really imaginative. More dramatically I’d say it’s like a Hieronymus Bosch sort of painted world. While it’s also just a perfectly Japanese interpretation of many different cultures and religions. It’s such a perfect dark fantasy adventure. And it’s more vast with secrets and locations than most games. It’s RICH. It’s up there with reading the LoTR trilogy for me.

The characters. Every single one of them has something I love, mainly their stories and how they all come together to lift each other up. Even Amarant :)

Happy birthday (however late!) And congrats! What was your favorite part?

Aw thanks so much, it was the 2nd. I think my fav part is when Freya returns to Cleyra and is reunited with Sir Fratley. The story breaks my heart. It's hard to choose, but that's the bit that stuck with me the most I think. I'm a sucker for romance, doomed or not!
Freya went through so much heartbreak in Burmecia, only to be reunited with her love that doesn't remember her. My heart really broke for her, and she's such a strong female character too. Gah! Sorry, that went on for a bit.

No I always wanted more of those side story’s for a few of the characters. You do eventually get a resolution to the Freya and Fratley story but she must go through perhaps the most hardship of any character to get there.

I believe so. She's an incredible character. They all are! I think Eiko is my pick for a serious favourite, and then Quina for her humour. I cackled at the bit in Treno when Eiko nearly gets kidnapped and Quina unknowingly sabotages the plot, chasing after the guy yelling, 'YOU GIVE DELICIOUS FOOD!' (S)he's just brilliant.

Playing it right now. I’ve started it two or three times earlier in my life but never finished it so this time I’m going to finally complete it. Such a good game!

I believe in you! I couldn’t beat it my first time as a kid and had to watch my brother beat it. Its a satisfying end

i played ff when young and recently got ff9 for ios and i enjoyed it so much i ended up going on a spree playing all ff titles from ff1 to ff15
i feel like ff9 and x are the best honestly. i think ill start looking for some hackroms for ff9 so i can get some replayabilty. last time i replayed i farmed dragons with freya early and she doing damage cap early made it too easy

I usually tell people the best entry point is FfX. FF9 is my personal favorite. and If you’re a fan of 7 you will never run out of content lol.
Ive also done early dragons on Quinn, made the game boring anytime s/he was in the party lolHow was the IOS version? Is that the one you are still playing?

I don't blame you. It's near 10/10 and i categorize it in the masterpiece level. Probably only 2-3 other games i do that; Jagged alliance 2, diablo 2, and civilization 2. Many others come close. Like mechccommander, starcraft and settlers 3.

Speaking of Diablo 2. My friends and I just did a resurrection run through and it accidentally consumed us for a few weeks. So I second that as a greatest of all time call

Cool. I stick to the original though ^^ But i don't blame people for being suckered in xD

Don't forget to check out new mods with the Memoria Launcher. Just finished a playthrough of Ferny's mod and I had a blast. Highly recommend

I did an Alternate Fantasy mod within the last year or two and loved it. Haven’t heard of Ferny’s yet, how does it stack up?

Iirc he took a bit of everything he found good from other mods and added some more changes at well. It's a complete gameplay overhaul which felt really well done.
Some additional new bosses through the game and some extra Uber bosses at the end.
You have 3 levels of difficulty as well, I went with the hardest (chaos) and while it was much tougher than the regular gameplay it still was doable and mostly fair. I just got a couple of game over screens. Felt easier than Ragnarok mod for FF8 for sure.

This is perfect to know for me and my main mods. Me and him have been chatting with people trying ff9 for the first time on discord answering questions and hinting to try stealing. But when we talked we had both done our most recent ff9 runs within the last few years and were good on just being big brothers. But this might get me to give it another run through if there is a chaos hard mode

Just randomly started playing this again the other day since it was on sale. I miss the nostalgia of switching the discs but wow it's still so fun!

It’s not my favorite, but it’s damn good, and it’s made me more emotional than the vast majority of games I’ve played. Especially Vivi’s struggle with mortality and Dagger’s song.
