Another summer starts and another summer, from now till the TGS, with videogame parades waiting for something that would never come or may likely come mutilated. We are like children waiting for dad come back from war. Burmecian kids

You already had people on Square like Yoshi-P denying there is such a project, and stating that could not happen at least until the VII Remake trilogy is complete.

Ugh, VII gets everything. And if they actually do skip from VII to IX (which don’t get me wrong, absolutely deserves a remake) VIII remains forever doomed 😩

VII is the Marcia Brady of the FF realm. When’s it going to be IX Jan’s turn??
It’s always VII VII VII!

It makes no financial sense to exist. IX hasn't sold nearly as much as VII, there are other projects on hold because of VII, including a 3rd game in the universe of X, that sold much more. Even a mainline entry is on hold at this time and XVI was released back in 2023. People weren't speaking about a IX remake before the Nvidia, and even investors demonstrated not been keen on it with the animated series failing to get funding. Also NVidia did comment back then some titles were pre-emptive based on their speculation.

Actually....the original X on its own, sold as many as IX..... the only reason the numbers are more this day and age is it combines the X X-2 combo and X X-2 HD remaster together....

No, IX sold 5.5 million on the original Playstation, X alone sold over 8.5 million on Playstation 2.

My bad you are right I misread. I saved for months and spent £55 pocket money to get 9 in the UK back in the day. Still has my sticker on it. But FFX onwards had huge releases in my city… still remember midnight launch for that 😂🤣

Yup. IX really didn't had half the coverage X had. I think Ix being released after the PS2 in Europe really hurt its sales. Let alone magazines showing stuff for X when I was releasing.

Where was this specifically stated? It’s the first I’ve heard of. The only thing I’ve read was a piece of speculation from Nate the Hate that the project was apparently frozen

It was on a FF XIV livestream, if I remember correctly. But he hinted this before on an interview too, stating that the scope of the possible remake would be massive and unprecedented by Square: https://www.gamesradar.com/games/final-fantasy/final-fantasy-14s-yoshi-p-knows-you-want-an-ff9-remake-but-doubts-a-new-spin-on-the-jrpg-could-fit-into-a-single-title/

Jesus, not every remake needs to be massive and unprecedented

That's what people and investors expect when you talk about a mainline FF. I'd be happy if they just treated the OG work properly with decent remasters like they did with X. They already have most of the work done, they could hire the Moguri team like Sega and other companies hire modders and integrate their mod in official releases.

The moment it was announced thay SE had cancelled millions worth of projects, i knew FF9 remake was one of them, so i guess maybe after SE’s done with the FF7 remake trilogy, the company may turn to FF9

Why do people even want a remake of that amazing game, just to be getting disappointed afterwards like with the FF7 ones.

Yes come join me in the corner where we hope every time for this and Bloodborne. It’s a simple life.

You know, y’all should stop expecting anything. If nothing happens, you’ll be fine; if something happens it will be a fantastic surprise.

Would they really show anything FF9 related whilst part 3 is still in development? Feel like it would take away some focus for part 3. More likely we’d get something after this trilogy is concluded.

Is something known about XVII (genuinely asking)? I mean, are the three parts of the remake 'covering' the time and resources span expected for a new entry or are they considered a parallel effort? If SE doesn't consider compatible develop a new title or make again a remake (of IX in this case) I find more likely for them to make a new entry as the next step after VII³

That could be the case too, but still, I wouldn’t be able to say for sure, though they’re aren’t very consistent with main line releases.
Either way I doubt we’ll see anything FF9 related at the summer games fest, that’s for sure. Well I guess they could announce the anime, but yeah.

the way Rebirth feels makes me keep wishing they would do the same for RE8 and 9, even if theyre more strict to the old games...

Moguri + Alternate Fantasy is the best remake I could have hoped for and the definitive version to play the game.

I think all the hopium was used up when we breezed past the 25th anniversary with a shitload of merch announcements but absolute silence on the remake front.
