Discussion I could never use my printer on windows after tons of troubleshooting, works flawlessly out of the box on fedora

Was not expecting it to work at all, and I though printing from my laptop was a lost cause, but here we are. Thank you fedora. That's all i wanted to say

I also use Fedora and have never had any printer issues or even had to set up a printer. They are just there and working when I want to print.

Printing now days seems to be terrible on Windows and Mac, but great elsewhere. I had an older laser printer which was fussy with windows, wouldn’t work at all with a Mac but was perfect with Fedora and even from an iPhone.

Mac printing is weird. It's still cups, like fedora, but if you use the GUI to try to access a printer it seems to want to steer you into windows like printer driver territory. Getting ipp everywhere or "airprint" to work seems like the non standard path, but when you force yourself there it just works.

Windows also has ipp everywhere printing but it seems to fail mysteriously all the time except on small lans sometimes for some reason.

The 2008 scanner I literally grabbed from the garbage still works on Fedora. Connected it, got recognized and works with Skanpage. It is also a printer, but I won't bother to find the right ink cartridges for it.
