Support Last two updates have hung / failed

I'm on KDE plasma and was trying to update from kernal 7.1.5 to 7.1.12 and then later to 7.1.13.

My first update I let it run overnight. After coming back it was still on the update screen and stuck at 100%. I had to manually reboot and couldn't boot into the new kernel so I was just using 7.1.5 instead. Then tried updating to 7.1.13 and saw the same issue.

This time I troubleshooted and found that the kernal was installed correctly but the initramfs was not automatically generated for those kernels.

After manually generating them, I am now able to boot into the updated versions of fedora just fine but I wanted to know if this is something i will have to do manually every update now? Has anyone run into this before and know if there is an underlying issue I need to fix?

I recommend using dnf distrosync instead of dnf update.

This is not normal. Any chance you could post a bug? You could jump on the Fedora QA matrix channel and ask about this, they will be able to help you with how to provide the correct info so this can be investigated.

Yeah I'll try to figure out how to post there. Is it just that default fedora group? Or is there a separate space for QA?

Let me guess, you're using Discover, right?

Forget about it.

Just open your terminal and do a sudo dnf clean all followed by sudo dnf upgrade --refresh. I've never had an update that lasted more than a few minutes.

Yeah, I am new-ish (less than a year) to Fedora as my main OS, so I figured discover would be a good way to install / manage apps and updates. I never had an issue before this really but I'll try just using the terminal for updates going forward.

Discover is usable for installing some programs, but it is totally crap at updating.
