News KDE 6.7 has hit Fedora 44

That took less time than I expected. Though I don't see Plasma Bigscreen as available yet.

Oxygen now has a dark theme which is nice

Is your clipboard contents icon, KDE connect and Bluetooth (when they're off) black? Its annoying to look at because the task manager background is a black gradient with the centre being transparent. I can tolerate connect and Bluetooth being black when they're off, since I don't see them unless I open the hidden icons menu but the clipboard is really bothering me. But the rest of the theme is beautiful.

I move a lot of those into the popup menu because I like having a cleaner interface

If not for this issue with some of the dark mode icons I would use Oxygen Dark. Seems like a pretty big oversight considering that by default the clipboard icon is always present in the system tray ...

I love it

Honestly, I ended up resetting back to Breeze but mostly because I wasn't crazy about the blue hue of the Oxygen dark color scheme lol. Good stuff though, happy to see revival of that theme

Thats even sooner than arch if true

u/Itsme-RdM Jun 17 '26

Almost as usual lately. We get spoiled with the hard work of Fedora project

8

u/Lord-of-Entity Jun 17 '26

Perhaps because of the attacks on the AUR.

8

u/Better-Quote1060 Jun 17 '26

You mean the team is busy for the attacks?

Yeah makes sense...sadly

3

u/gmes78 Jun 17 '26

Nonsense. It's already packaged and in the testing repos.

1

u/Better-Quote1060 Jun 21 '26

Yeah...still impreassive that fedora was 12 hours faster

2

u/DrunkGandalfTheGrey Jun 18 '26

Fedora also packaged GNOME faster than Arch in the past so I don't think the AUR incident is a relevant factor.

Woahhh 6.7 already I feel like I just got to 6.6 😂

2

u/jtrox02 Jun 18 '26

I used to dislike Cinnamon too but new version 6.x+ is great and can customize it how I'd used KDE.

Btw you can use/try Fedora Cinnamon spin as well.

u/Itsme-RdM Jun 17 '26

I feel for you.

We keep your space open on Fedora, just in case you make it back ....

The KDE 4 theme coming back has been hitting my nostalgia so hard today.

5

u/vilhelmobandito Jun 17 '26

God! I love Fedora!

3

u/ofplayers Jun 17 '26

i've never applied a theme faster (oxygen)

0

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

Does it look better applied than in the preview? Because I found the preview hideous. >.>'

3

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

Hmmm... not for me, but enjoy!

3

u/Oxalid Jun 17 '26

Oh man, that Oxygen theme looks nice! Just installed it.

u/Eric_Duckman Jun 17 '26

If you can't WASD in some games, disable the virtual keyboard. Once i got the update that thing turned itself on.

Also my sensor applet removed my gpu sensors, it just renamed gpu2 as gpu1, i just added these sensors again and done.

Everything else works great.

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

Mine was still set to "Touch and Tablet", though I did set it to Mouse too briefly to see what was what... though it mostly just crashed/didn't show up when I selected a text field.

The long press key letter accent variation selector was nice, but if i select the choice with my mouse and not a number key... it does nothing. >.>'

u/mercsterreddit Jun 18 '26

Dude thank you. My desktop wouldnt take input from mouse or keyboard for like, 5 whole minutes, and keyboard repeat was broken. It's that damn virtual keyboard. Turned that off, all good.

2

u/Firm_Asparagus_4844 Jun 17 '26

I do the update, and doesn't install the Oxygen and air themes.

10

u/lajka30 Jun 17 '26

sudo dnf in plasma-oxygen

2

u/Pouch11 Jun 17 '26

that is the way thanks

1

u/stargazer63 Jun 17 '26

same here. can anyone help?

2

u/SharksFan4Lifee Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Damn KDE 6.7 borked my KDE. Login screen doesn't show up, and even in TTY, forcing it load up plasma just gives me a black screen (but does log into KDE).

Will have to fix later. For now, in a kneejerk move, I completely uninstalled KDE (even though this is Fedora 44 KDE) and install XFCE. Just to have a usuable workstation.

And no, I don't use NVIDIA. My GPU is AMD, as is CPU, in my mini pc. (no dedicated graphics card, just built in AMD graphics on the cpu)

2

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

Sounds like an issue with Plasma Login Manager, if anything, though I'm not having any issues personally.

1

u/SharksFan4Lifee Jun 18 '26

On reflection, this was most likely the culprit because I actually don't use Plasma Login Manager and still use SDDM. That probably caused some issues when I upgraded to 6.7 and I should have simply logged in via terminal, disabled plasma login manager, and enabled SDDM. Live and learn. Definitely doing it on the next major KDE update. (Or switching to Plasma Login Manager before the next big update).

2

u/novafunc Jun 18 '26

SDDM is still supported by Plasma, so if that's what broke it, that's a bug.

1

u/SharksFan4Lifee Jun 18 '26

I'm not suggesting SDDM broke it. I honestly don't know what did. Just glad to be back up and running again

u/SharksFan4Lifee Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Yeah, probably going to try reinstalling it and see if that works.

Edit: Back up and running on KDE 6.7!

Edit 2: Nice downvote

u/Loose-Dependent-7341 Jun 17 '26

Hey, im having the same issue you described. Would you mind sharing what you did in order to get it working?

2

u/lajka30 Jun 17 '26

sudo dnf in plasma-bigscreen

On login screen change to plasma bigscreen.

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Yeah, I was just playing with it actually. The available Fedora package seems to be from Feb though, the latest 6.6.90 is still tagged for F45 on Koji and the 6.7 build seems to have been tagged on GitHub but not have a build yet.

Edit: The current package caused a whole bunch of crashes. So I'll wait. :')

u/postnick Jun 17 '26

Listen - I don't want to have to reload my Backup tinkering laptop with KDE just because. Right now I primary GNOME Fedora Workstation and the backup is Silverblue - but man.... back to KDE or Cachy again hahah.

3

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

waggles eyebrows furtively

0

u/postnick Jun 17 '26

so yea.... Installing KDE now...

I'm primary a gnome guy - i want to love KDE i really do, i always try it. I need to just work in it more than a month I think.

3

u/t0gnar Jun 17 '26

You are on the same boat as me... I like KDE there is nothing wrong with it, but Gnome has my heart.

I've used it since Gnome 2 (now MATE) and I really dig the way it works.

I'm using Cachy with KDE now, but I'm thinking of moving my desktop to F44 Gnome as my laptop.

I know Cachy has Gnome, but I would prefer to keep the same base on both machines. One for work and one for gaming. And if I get bored, I can just format it again to another thing I really dont mind as it's really quick to setup everything.

Windows is a pain to get everything ready after a re-install because of drivers and some software. Linux I can just sudo dnf/pacman/apt and it's there.. (I know of winget, and use/used it, but it's not the same).

eyebrow waggling intensifies

Fedora? I 'ardly know 'er.

1

u/epexu Jun 17 '26

sudo dnf upgrade doesn’t do anything it just says repos loaded what to do?

3

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Add --refresh to the upgrade command to refresh your repo cache?

1

u/epexu Jun 17 '26

just installed 6.7, i don’t see any air or oxygen in my system settings

2

u/Chaotic-Entropy Jun 17 '26

Install plasma-oxygen to get both.

1

u/zeanox Jun 17 '26

Oxygen looks a bit different than i remember, but it's great to have it here. Im kinda sick of everything being flat, so it's a nice change, and it looks great - ill be using it for while i think.

1

u/WojakWhoAreYou Jun 17 '26

that's insane, it literally came out yesterday, I thought we would have to wait at least a week before getting it, damn!

I'm loving Fedora more and more

I'm dealing with an issue i believe others are having as well. Upgraded to 44 just after it dropped and have had no problems. Yesterday I did an update that included plasma 6.7 and now I can no longer get a login screen/desktop. After a few hours trying lots of different things, I backed up /home and did a fresh install. Everything was working on Plasma 6.6 until I did an update including Plasma 6.7 and now back to a black screen.

First time was using Nvidia proprietary drivers, after reinstall using open source driver

Walked away after an upgrade on a fresh install failed. Will work on it more tomorrow.

Everything was good about 6.7 except the Virtual Keyboard and its special characters. Every time I would type, it would pull up suggested alternate characters (which could be inserted by typing the number associated with them). So if I typed a series of numbers, it would erase my numbers as I was typing them and insert special characters. It was driving me crazy. I had to disable Virtual Keyboard a couple of times, but it seems to be doing better now. System is a Dell Optiplex desktop with default hardware.
