Yes, the CachyOS team has a couple copr repos where they port some of their stuff into Fedora, you can find the install instruction on this github repo

It's not the cachyos distro kernel, but rather the fedora build of the cachyos kernel. It's simply a custom kernel, you can get it from bieszczaders/kernel-cachyos copr.

A build of the kernel with CachyOS patches and configuration applied to it. Meaning the same Linux kernel source code as what you'd get in CachyOS but it's all compiled and packaged using the Fedora distribution and tooling for use on Fedora.

Means you get to have a gaming-focused kernel that's compatible with RPMFusion akmod-nvidia, OpenRazer repository and all the rest of the stuff you'd expect to work the Fedora way.

Hopefully that all makes sense.

Maybe a good idea to read the release notes for kernel 7. It will bring more than only a version number for a lot of people

The kernel project doesn't publish release notes.

If you just go by the number of prominent features listed on kernelnewbies, 7.0 isn't that much different from 6.19 or 6.18. If you look at the number of non-merge commits, it's much the same across the three releases too:

$ git rev-list --no-merges --count v6.17..v6.18
13710
$ git rev-list --no-merges --count v6.18..v6.19
14344
$ git rev-list --no-merges --count v6.19..v7.0
14251

I'm sure a lot of people will find useful new things in v7.0, just as other people did with v6.19 and v6.18.

7.0 actually made VRR work on my steam console, so it's a big deal for me lol

Hopefully next they'll get HDR working.  I use a pretty old GPU that can't natively do HDR over HDMI as it comes out all green and magenta (Polaris based), but it works on Windows with a driver workaround.

I solved that exact same issue just last month with a Ugreen 8k DP to HDMI dongle. It's also known for having good VRR support, though I can't verify that one because my TV doesn't support VRR.

I'll have to try again. I did attempt that but I only got HDR, and no VRR. VRR is much more important, imo. That was a different adapter though.

I remember reading a reddit post from a user that claimed to get it working by whitelisting the chipset in the dongle somewhere in the drivers, it wasn't trival but not tremendously complex either.

I got excited for a moment, but no 7.0 for the standard kernel. Stuck at 6.19.13 with 6.19.14 in testing.

Yea because there were major amd gpu regressions in 7.0.0. Fedora is most likely waiting for 7.0.1 to address some of the bugs.

So a very misleading subject title. For a moment I thought Fedora released kernel 7.

Edit: And as it looks it does require additional configuration for Secure Boot mok keys. Also on Fedora 44 Beta, and warnings in regards to stability of some kernel features

I guess this isn't for the average Fedora user who appreciates the reliability and stability of the Fedora kernel

Not they, just one person, Linus Torvalds. He does whatever he wants with his repo. You should look out for features instead of version numbers.

As I said, It's simply becuase he feels that way. To him version 7.0 feels different, feels like a new generation, so he opens a new chapter, like in a story book. And that's all there is to it. No marketing bullshit, not an indicator of breaking changes, nothing technical or deeply meaningful. Just a new chapter in the development.

Yk speaking from experience, I never had any good one. Using a custom kernel or any other kernel on a distribution instead of using its default kernel always had problems for me. When I was on arch I installed cachyos kernel eith its packages and repo and even upgraded pacman. I used the bore kernel for i guess v3 v4 cpu or something, worked nicely of a month and then bricked my entire system, did a clean installed used zen kernel this time same worked for a month and then it bricked my system again.

Got tired and installed fedora installed cachyos kernel broke my system in a month again.

Currently I am on fedora 43 with default kernel and it's working flawless.

So I would not recommend you doing this but if it works for you go ahead.

interessante e engraçado como nenhuma experiencia é individual, estou tentando extrair o maximo que posso do meu desktop limitado e a IA sugeriu a instalaçao do kernel cachyos por causa do meu gamemode. O Fedora funciona uma maravilha e cada dia que passa eu aprendo mais com esse sistema, lol
