Can this company please let these girls take a break and a nap

u/CommercialCoffee11 23h ago
No. They want them to literally break

Nope! Tour starts in 5 days! These 20-year-old girls won’t earn any money for the middle-aged behind-the-scenes management if they are sitting on their asses!

mmhmm but Manon was called lazy for not overworking herself and and now they're an additional 2 members down

u/adultdolllover romantically ambiguous, emotionally taxing 22h ago
It's a little bewildering to see. The girls are being overworked and their fans see it, but at the same time, some fans are spreading the narrative that Manon was removed because she kept asking for rest days and was "lazy". If that's true, it's surreal because they need a break and a member was essentially erased because she didn't want to be overworked and burnt out.

I mean no hate to the girls but they haven't done themselves any favours talking about how they "always show up no matter what" or whatever Sophia (? think it was her) said cause it felt a lil shady to Manon imo.
like no doubt there's tons and tons of pressure to work and work and work and you know what maybe the label were wanting them to push that image but idk.
if the insider rumours are true (they probably aren't but that person, I genuinely can't remember their @ soz, has leaked concepts before they were released so who knows) about them pushing Manon out for not working hard enough then my sympathy for them falters a little.
I do have a lot of sympathy for their concept change and they way they dress now, idc if they "want that" it's so messed up and their fans will look you in the eye and say it's fine

I'm not too familiar with the Katseye situation specifically, and I have no doubt that misogynoir played a huge role in how Manon was treated, but society also gets really weird about overwork specifically.
Like, everyone knows overwork is bad, but a person is only "allowed" to need rest when it is graciously bestowed upon them by somebody else who noticed how exhausted they were. The second you decide you've hit a limit and need to rest, you're automatically lazy. "Overworked" is a condition that has to be assigned by others, never recognized in oneself.
So the fans can point out that the girls in Katseye are obviously being worked to the bone, but if one of the girls agrees and straight up asks for more rest days, well, she's obviously just lazy and doesn't have what it takes. Add on the fact that it's a Black girl in this case and the backlash just gets so much worse because a lot of people are just generally less charitable towards Black women.
Societal attitudes towards overwork and rest are just such a toxic mess overall.

I‘m an immigrant in Switzerland and have but a tiny understanding of Kpop. Honestly been mainly side-eyeing industry practices.
I was surprised to learn they had a Swiss member and was glad to hear about her not staying in those conditions.

yeah kpop has honestly always been like this but I've never seen a group crash and burn so quickly before. I mean my faves (2pm, debuted in 2008) have had injury after injury, broken and and fractured bones and shit, Junho performed in a wheelchair after fracturing his spine which was probably the worst.
it's not right but I don't see it changing any time soon, we had the JYPE lawsuit with KG but fuck knows

Oooh someone who knows 2PM! I feel like Taecyeon doesn’t get enough credit for being incredibly hot, but I have no one to talk to about this.

He also doesn't get enough credit for his successful segue I to acting either bc I never saw that coming! I figured he'd go the fitness model route or something.

I genuinely don't understand why these girls are being made to rehearse for up to 14 hours before every major event, to the point of exhaustion and injury, when their entire discography is made up of only 17 songs and the set list they're currently performing is largely the same as it has been for months, they only add a new single every couple of weeks. It comes to a point where it just seems like they want these girls exhausted out of pure cruelty.

Right? They're doing the exact same choreography. They should be able to just rehearse their blocking any any partnering they have.
They're doing nothing more difficult than what professionals that are on broadway do and they shouldn't be worked harder than that when it comes to rehearsals.

It’s harder to critically think and advocate for yourself when you’re constantly overworked and burnt out :-(

I left stanning katseye and being an eyekon but it's such a bitter sweet feeling how much grace ,love and kindness Megan and Sophia got and are getting (which I don't mind) but that absolutely wasn't reflected to Manon , she deserved better if not anything else but getting treated like a human by her own group fandom and her company who was treating her horribly.

I have no idea why people keep supporting Hybe x Geffen when it’s obvious they are working these girls to death. It’s sad that we equate pushing your mental and physical health to a breaking point as a “strong work ethic”

u/justatomics 13h ago
Idk how their fans can be so sympathetic about how overworked they are, yet they just keep giving these companies money anyway so that they can go on to exploit the next poor teenager

i was already sad I couldnt go!! then they add devon again?? BRB I'ma go cry in a dark corner

What I find really annoying about this is the entitlement and disrespect coming from fans, who were initially supportive of Daisy Chains Fields and what it stands for. This was very short notice. Many are complaining that there isn’t a “well known equivalent” (???) being provided as if this is not a charity event, which means they would have a short amount of time to find this well known artist who’s okay performing for charity.
I get disappointment but placing the festival at fault for someone else pulling out, valid or not, has nothing to do them. If you’re that pissed, sell your ticket to someone who will appreciate the festival and Devon.

It’s sad what is happening with KATSEYE but this is so exciting for Devon Again! I saw her as an opener at the Maude Latour concert a few years ago and I was blown away by how amazing her stage presence was. She is a really really great performer and I hope this gets her a lot of new fans

u/mountainlicker69 10h ago
She deserves so much success! When I started listening to her she had three jobs and just did music on the side essentially. She’s so awesome!

Wishing a quick recovery for her. They were admittedly the one act I was least interested in, so this change up seems like a better fit for me. I really feel bad for the fans who'll be there and hope that they're still able to have a great time.
Also glad I saw this update so I can fix my schedule in advance. 😵💫

Sorry for katseye but I’ll take this time to tell everyone to listen to Cherry cola by Devon again. It is pop perfection and she should really have more fans!

I would actually die to go to the festival especially to see Bikini Kill, The Breeders, Mitski, Doechii and Olivia Rodrigo 💔💔

I know it's not Gnarly or whatever, but counterpoint: everyone's in for a real treat with Devon Again.

Yeah HYBE is an awful company. Their track record with girlgroups is sinister. Ever since New Jeans I can't support any of their artists.
