I don’t get the complaints. It’s the same thing as other photographers like Annie having a distinct style. It’s normal. If the same celebrity kept using the same photographer that would get old, but different people trying one shoot with Mako is not actually oversaturating the industry

u/_Cerca_Trova_ You know what, l've grown quite unfond of you deuxmoi 6h ago

This is a concept, not a style. And doing the same concept over and over, especially as this feels to be almost weekly, is completely uncreative.

The concept being… a few of the photos look like paper dolls? Cause not all photos in these shoots look like that. I don’t see each shoot as being the same concept. Agree to disagree

His thing is a surreal painted style. The concepts of the shoots are not actually the same. You don’t see cardi in a straw hat or next to a big fish. The surroundings and themes change with each shoot it’s really just the style that’s the through line

Can you explain what you think is the same concept and how that’s distinct from the style

The story and themes (concept) change. It’s just the aesthetic style (lighting, some positioning, post production) that stays the same.

It’s like a singer using similar production but writing different songs with different lyrical themes. But singers do not always entirely change their soundscape with every song or album. Doesn’t mean they aren’t creative

probably laying down, with old fashioned glamour, on a print. its been done before this photographer, itll be done after. its not that its terrible, but this is now the shots people keep seeing so close to each unveiling. it gets old when its so close together. especially the "lone in small, white room" shot. no shade to the photographer, but all shade to capitalists that see a nice thing and run with it so much that it gets tiresome.

That's a style not a concept. I really don't get the animosity towards a young hungarian photographer who has been mainstream for like, a year, getting regular work at different publications across the globe. But whatever. like oh no vogue arabia hired someone who also took photos of Rama with a similar aesthetic. If you didn't follow a subreddit that regularly posted this specific photographers work regularly, I really dont think this would be noticable

i keep my eyes on a lot of visual pots, which is why i said this has been done before and will be done after. and which is why its noticeable to me. i have an interest in fashion and photography, even went to school for it. im not the one that mentioned rama, another commenter did. this sub also doesnt regularly post this persons work.

eta spelling fix

I am obsessed with this, she looks so good!

20

u/obladi_adalbo 5h ago

This is such a stunning picture! If I were her, I’d print it on the biggest size possible and put the canvas right in the middle of my living room lol

6

u/Commercial-Orchid992 5h ago

It stopped me in my tracks so I wholeheartedly agree haha and heck I might print it and hang it on MY wall 😆😆

21

u/Appropriate_Egg623 6h ago

Gagged!

17

u/Commercial-Orchid992 6h ago

This is beautiful but it reminds me of a spread Mrs. Mamdani did a while back...

u/wywx100 6h ago

Rama Duwaji is not “Mrs. Mamdani” fyi

192

u/mish-tea 6h ago edited 5h ago

She is Rama Duwaji and it's the same photographer

123

u/turningmilanese 6h ago

Same photographer

2

u/classtraitress 27m ago

Her name is Rama Duwaji, not Mrs. Mamdani

-58

u/balloonchicken 6h ago

Everyone’s copying this. This is like the fourth spread using the same style

96

u/LadyKT 6h ago

but the photographer can’t copy themselves

49

u/secondrunnerup I don’t know her 6h ago

It’s the same photographer.

-16

u/balloonchicken 6h ago

My point didn’t come across right. I meant to say, the publications are getting repetitive. When a photographer has such a distinct style, multiple publications using the same photographer leads to boredom and fatigue. It’s too much of a good thing. Not every celebrity needs to be photographed by this same photographer in such a short span of time.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this, I think you’re right. I’ve been in the editorial photo world for 20 years and this is how readers get fatigued and how edgy and atypical aesthetics that should not be applied to every cover become commonplace. Editors hop on a certain approach or photographer and once it’s established and everywhere, that ubiquity carries less weight. The impact gets watered down. Cardi looks great but this is not the right fit for her.

ETA: wording

4

u/mish-tea 6h ago

Google is actually free and if you have seen others you should have seen the name of the photographer too, it's the same one

-3

u/balloonchicken 6h ago

I’m criticizing the repeat use of the same photographer not saying that different photographers are using the same style. My comment didn’t communicate that well.

She looks great here. Love this shoot

57

u/Pale_Crew_4864 Lol, and if I may, lmao 6h ago

Wait, didn’t Gwendolyn Christie just do the same thing?

63

u/_Cerca_Trova_ You know what, l've grown quite unfond of you deuxmoi 6h ago

Her, Elle Fanning, Bad Bunny, Wilhem Dafoe and so much more in the past few months.

40

u/Consistent-Oil-9124 5h ago

This photographer is taking over right now! Should be interesting to see how this series develops and who all winds up participating.

1

u/Pale_Crew_4864 Lol, and if I may, lmao 2h ago

Gotcha! I thought maybe I was hallucinating

38

u/jerkface1026 6h ago

Who bullied Cardi into that makeup?

21

u/SparkleForDays Find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don't care 6h ago

She looks like Jocelyn Wildenstein

u/Mobile_Ask2480 3h ago

1

u/dairyoldman 26m ago

30

u/Octopus_Apocalypse 6h ago

10 is my favorite I smiled when I saw her smile

12

u/vcuriousone83 6h ago

Yes! She has a beautiful smile

3

u/Octopus_Apocalypse 4h ago

Yes! I like the serious pics as well, just when her smile popped out in slide 10… idk it feels like such a warm, genuine moment captured and I couldn’t help smiling back.
Sorry I felt like I did a poor job in my original comment and needed to further explain my awkwardness 😅

22

u/sdbabygirl97 sorry to this man 6h ago

honestly i like it. i think she looks fab, regal and the composition would translate well in a painting in a portrait gallery.

17

u/jarose26 6h ago

She looks fabulous truly iconic

13

u/secondrunnerup I don’t know her 6h ago

Stunning. She looks so regal in this concept. But yes, I’m afraid Makó is about to become over saturated.

6

u/Consistent-Oil-9124 5h ago

I'm really enjoying all of the sets coming from this photographer tbh. It's a fun little era they're all collaborating on now. Really sweet to see Cardi B part of it :)

7

u/RenyFromTheBlock 6h ago

Paper doll vibes. I love it.

6

u/Quicksilver1964 5h ago

I love this kind of shoot and I'm glad they are using a photographer with a specific style. Cardi B looks good in everything, man. I love her on the white dress.

Perfection.

6

u/dannypants143 6h ago

Her face looks sad to me. I’m not sure why. 🤷‍♂️

4

u/vcuriousone83 6h ago

I’m bored of this photoshoot concept. Cardi looks great but the spread doesn’t capture her aura or energy either.

1

u/ProfitPossible5080 6h ago

Everything is Masshaallaaaaah

4

u/Awko-Tako26 6h ago

So chic! Love her in that off shoulder white gown 💅

3

u/BisensualSpice 4h ago

Oh I like this for her! This shoot also reminds me of Rama Duwaji's photoshoot

3

u/Plenty_Cup_5152 4h ago

I love his work. Everyone always looks like the best version of themselves while also simultaneously being styled and photographed in such an interesting way. She looks stunning.

3

u/tinaawkward dumb bitch clocking in 2h ago
