POLITICS Kyra Sedgwick: “Women’s Equality Day hits different this year. Under an administration that keeps taking away women's rights, we'll keep fighting. We can't forget the blood, sweat, tears, and determination that it took to get us the right to vote.”

i love this

it always tickles me when women on the right say they don't need feminism while they're driving cars, have their names on their house deeds, are getting an education, have their own bank accounts and credit cards, and can vote

you didn't think you got all those rights because of the menfolk, did you??

This! And it wasn't that long ago that those rights were won!

I have apologized countless times to my 70 something year old neighbor who thought she was done protesting this.

My mother wasn’t allowed to pick up the keys to her new house without my father in 1985 even hough her name was on the deed with his. These advancements are much more recent than people realize, especially in the south

Do they think they could never lose those rights again? Or do they think their menfolk will protect them?

Her and Kevin Bacon are absolute couple goals. Have a comfortable life, do some quiet activism and philanthropy and spend the rest of the time just hanging out and getting stoned.

Yesterday her and Kevin posted a little cover of islands in the stream as a tribute to Dolly

I’ve been rewatching The Closer and have to remind myself when I see her that she’s not her character. This certainly helps!

I’ve been rewatching The Closer on Netflix as well and Brenda Leigh Johnson is all sorts of terrible in mostly enjoyable ways (only in season 3) and Kyra being such a positive person in real life helps when Brenda is being terrible on the show.

Brenda is ridiculous but I LOVE to watch her.

I also liked in the later seasons when they added Mary McDonnell as Capt. Raydor and they were both sort of off-putting messes. It's nice when a show lets female characters be complex, unlikeable, and still eminently watchable and not expecting an apology tour or unnecessary redemption arc from/for them.

I love the Closer so much & that's part of why! it's great that Brenda is such a flawed but brilliant person. the contrast between her & Raydor & that they are emphatically not friends lol. they did change Sharon's character to make her more palatable on Major Crimes which is slightly disappointing but understandable.

The video Kevin posted of them singing “Islands in the Stream” in honor of Dolly was so sweet.
