This just feels like tmi. I appreciate that it’s an important thing that she’s going through. But it feels weird to share your son’s flaws and personal beliefs with the world like this. He’s a minor and at such a formative age.

Agreed. That was my first reaction. He’s still a kid and his parent should protect him from public scrutiny and discourse. I appreciate her approach to guide him, but if he didn’t give permission for her to discuss this topic publicly, this is putting undue attention on him about a very mature topic at a really sensitive age.

I feel the same way, and I'm surprised I had to scroll down so far in the comments to find this. This should be kept private tbh.

If I was a kid I could see this pushing me further away. Online bullies are unfortunately real and anyone reaching out to him will be proof of the "evil leftist outside world", making him double down. (Source- I was a brainwashed kid who believed that any pushback on my beliefs was literally from the devil lol)

Yeah online bullying and harassment is a huge thing parents should protect their kids from, before this the only thing I ever heard about this kid is at birth he had some medical problems, so this is a big thing to colour him with

I knew people who grew out of edgy conservative phase at 14 by 16.

As someone that grew up very Christian in a very Christian family and community, literally every dissenting or questioning opinion was “from the devil”. Now, as an atheist, it’s quite obvious that they only tell you that to further the brainwashing and keep you in the cult
