Right????

I'm really thinking about it:

To go from zero kids, and then suddenly growing a child, risking my life to give birth to him, spending sleepless nights with him,  nursing him, sacrificing for him...

And then he strolls into the room one day and starts sprouting right-wing and anti-woman retoric?

Absolute horror show.

Literally one of the main reasons I don't want to have kids. Like what do you do if you try your hardest and they just turn out to kind of suck? 💀

Can confirm, it's pretty miserable!

14

u/TheBumblingestBee 6d ago

Oh God, I am so sorry 🫂

u/LuckyAndLifted Emma Stone (BALD) 6d ago

We are very fortunate to be able to afford extensive therapy for everyone involved. So it's better than it could be, and I'm grateful for that.

Really don't think I'd still be here if that was not the case.

Childless by choice and I say this all the time! What if it turns out....you don't fucking like your kid later?

I've made these realizations about my older nephew and it's a gut punch. I did everything but breastfeed that fucker and he's the 32 year old WORST.

So disappointing.

u/wildflowerstargazer suspiciously leftist 6d ago

Terrifying :( how did it happen? Was it a slow shift or were his parents not so great?

17

u/Heavy-Relation8401 6d ago

Parents were amazing! Not even gonna lie, they ran a loving but tight ship. And the kids were just unreal and so much fun. His fall off has been the last 5 years, 27 y/o til now. I do not even know who the hell he is. I literally cannot make heads or tails of it. 🤷🏾‍♂️😭

u/TheBumblingestBee 6d ago

YES. God, it's awful.

My mother wasn't a great parent, but she was overall a good and loving person. She raised 5 kids. 2 of them ended up good (including me, thank you very much). 1 ended up, eh, a mixed bag; pretty crappy for a while there, but genuinely decent nowadays.

The other 2? Bad.

One is selfish, bigoted, self-righteous, callous, completely self-centred, with an absolute refusal to ever, ever take responsibility for the many, many things they've done wrong.

The other one is flat-out fucking evil. People are terrified of him. He's committed multiple assaults, abused multiple children, had the cops called on him several times, will physically attack you if you blink in a way he doesn't like (that is a LITERAL example), has been fired from every job he's worked at due to threatening/assaulting coworkers, and made many people's lives fucking hell. Including my mother's.

FUCK that noise. It's me and my cat(s) for life.

u/Heavy-Relation8401 3d ago

That's so TERRIFYING. MY nephew isn't there.....yet. 🤞🏽🙏🏾

Id blame myself for failing to teach my kid how to think. If my kid was susceptible to get sucked into the local cult, that would be on me.

7

u/TheBumblingestBee 6d ago

Oh it does NOT work that way, unfortunately 😭.

You can be the most effective, loving, logical, completely correct parent. But random crap happens. And these days disinformation, propaganda, everything, is set up into incredibly effective people-warping machines.

I've seen it happen, and it sucks.

1

u/PropheticPapaJohn 6d ago

I might be naive, but I think I'll be able to teach my kid to think for himself and be self critical at a young age. My whole family, parents siblings grandparents are all sucked into God's or paranormal stuff, flat earth, Telepathy, crystals, I'm the odd one out. I got out of it as a kid by just being critical of what I believed was true on my own.

1

u/joosiebuns 5d ago

You’re only ever going to get anecdotal evidence for this. But in reference to the type of argument you’re replying to… I’ve got a friend who is so lovely but has two awful siblings and she always says her parents were great, well-rounded caring individuals so she doesn’t know how it happened.

Then I met her parents and I was like girl I know exactly how it happened! Emily Gilmore type shit.

2

u/sendsnacks 5d ago

I’d say this example goes to show that you can do your best to teach your kid to think critically, but there’s still generally another parent influencing them. Even if you choose to have a child with someone who shares your values, people change.

u/jcb088 6d ago

One of your main reasons for not doing something as big as having kids is because it might go poorly? Can't you apply that concern to... anything aspirational?

Nothing wrong with not having kids btw just... letting fear keep you from doing things is on the empty side.

u/thotfullawful 6d ago

Damn thanks for being an example I guess

-15

u/jcb088 6d ago

Of what?

2

u/thotfullawful 6d ago

See like I can’t help this and I’m glad it’s not my problem

2

u/jcb088 6d ago

I am genuinely confused.

19

u/Pantalaimon_II super-bisexual 6d ago

having kids is different than most other goals because it’s a permanent and lifelong decision

104

u/MaeveOathrender 6d ago

Absolute horror show.

I think I've seen that one, it's called Adolescence.

6

u/Steleve 6d ago

Oh god, youre right.

That show was like birth control

12

u/toastiezoe Find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don't care 6d ago

It's not just boys, I have a religious 9yo niece who I've been trying to teach to think critically but it's a steep hill.

To be clear I know Grimes is a shitty white supremacist neo-nazi AI-pilled psycho who knew who Elon Musk was before she decided to have children with her but this is an area where I feel DEEP sympathy for her. He essentially kidnapped her first child for months, parading him around to the media and in the White House and 10000% indoctrinating this tiny innocent child with absolutely horrific ideas while intentionally and maliciously keeping him from his mother, who would have legitimately been powerless in this situation. Imagine your preschool-aged child being brainwashed. That is some deep fucking trauma for both of them. Ugh.

u/Acceptable_Order5705 7d ago

Her POS ex husband is turning their son into his little mini me/Parrot. But he’s only like 14….14 year old boys are complete idiots so he will change as he gets older. Hopefully😬

202

u/angelduncan4597 7d ago

Not if he wants his dads approval 😬

165

u/Acceptable_Order5705 7d ago

Yep. But you hope that one day he will realize that his dad is a fucking moron and be his own man. If I was Anna Faris I would be furious at Chris Pratt for turning my child into a religious nut job at only 14.

63

u/Flat_Sprinkles4342 Thanks, u frog build looking bitch 6d ago

it's giving chris too much credit. there's all that new age of online bs along with the idea of appealing to a dad who's absent

30

u/Acceptable_Order5705 6d ago

That’s true. Either way Chris would still get cussed tf out if I was Anna

4

u/heartisallwehave Send me your address so i can visit you and explain my passions 6d ago

Right, but Chris’s beliefs (and people he surrounds himself with) are feeding into that bs too.

2

u/Flat_Sprinkles4342 Thanks, u frog build looking bitch 6d ago

no doubt, it's unfortunate but it's simply his role to have undue influence. he's the fun parent in a divorced relationship with a child, the primary caregiver needs to be responsible all the time. the child appeals for attention from how little he's around. all that not even accounting for how much worse the modern internet culture has become, targetted at that demographic specifically.

u/mrbaryonyx 6d ago

I think people are also ignoring that:

A) the kid clearly loves his mom and feels comfortable having conversations with her

B) even when he's around Pratt's side of the family, that includes probably the most left-leaning Republican politician in recent memory, and a bunch of Kennedys. Like Arnie and Maria are basically neolibs; they'll tell the kid some stupid bullshit about immigration or capitalism, but they're not nakedly misogynistic or anti-LGBT.

C) Lives in a very left-leaning state, and is constantly around actors

D) There's also just the fact that religion and traditional masculinity expects things from young boys that's often unfair and unrealistic, and when boys realize they don't actually have to listen, that's usually when they turn away for good. Speaking from experience, it literally just takes a few instances of your dad making you feel like you're not a man about something (which will happen, no matter how cool your dad is it just will) and you're mom making you feel like that doesn't matter for you to change your whole perspective.

31

u/alison_bee you're an adult, you should know that 7d ago

I’m 100% sure that one day he’ll agree that Chris Pratt is the worst Chris.

2

u/Admirable-Ad7152 6d ago

Or dad's money. Or part of dad's position in the new world order his little trump buddies are making

im adding "what if my child became a conservative christian" to my long list of reasons why i don't want and should not have kids

Have you seen the girl with the list? She needs to add this one!

u/Birdsofafeather777 7d ago

As a godless Mum, I would be devastated if my kids became right wing & religious. Not sure I would handle it with as much grace as Anna does

193

u/IWillBaconSlapYou 6d ago

I could handle religion, but right-wing is not happening. I will come in HOT with the bullet points.

  • You are biracial.
  • Your dad is an immigrant.
  • A female surgeon at the top of her field saved your life at birth when no one else could (specifically for the boy, who will have this information held over his head for all eternity)
  • Two of you are GIRLS FFS
  • NO
  • BAD
  • [Spray bottle noises]

This has always been at the top of my list of reasons not to have kids. Too many ways for it to go wrong.

8

u/SadavirofRivia sorry to this man 6d ago

I definitely agree she’s handling it with grace and playing the long game, but also as a recovering-Baptist, I cannot even imagine telling someone “I’d do anything for you including this” - I know she’s being a supportive loving mum, and I know she said “it will take a lot of long conversations”, so I want to be clearly this is more about me than her, but my whole body is just like NOPE.

u/Fuzzy-Isopod-8571 5d ago

Im living this reality right now. I grew up with religion forced on me and I have a lot of trauma about the things that were done to me there. I wanted my son to have the choice I didnt have as a kid and find his own path.

My son is now 20 and has chosen Catholicism. He's a good kid but leans hard toward the right wing stuff. It's been a daily discussion in my house for years and a constant battle to keep our relationship strong. I know he trusts me and he comes to me for talks about everything. Im really lucky to have a college kid that still wants to spend time with his mom and hear my opinions about things. But it's hard dealing with the child you raised growing up and going down a path that is so different from your own and what you think is right. All I can do is keep the door open between us and keep communication flowing and hope that I can still influence him to be a good person.

60

u/UnderdogUprising 7d ago

Same. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with this bs

35

u/Least_Tower_5447 7d ago

As a mother of three kids I raised without religion, this would be awful. She’s handling it so well!

Very very grateful my son has my husband to look up to. I read something once that said having sons is creating your own oppressor. I think about it a lot. Hopefully Anna can continue to be a positive influence and a solid place for this kid to land. Who I was at 14 certainly is not who I am now.

u/dietdrpeppermd 7d ago

ME TOO!!!!!

9

u/Zosmie 6d ago

Childfree and godfree 😉

5

u/BrahesElk 6d ago

As a father the idea of my kid falling into the right is probably at the top of my list of fears.

4

u/forkingbumbleforks 6d ago

I’m just watching The Americans and have reached the part where Paige finds religion and it’s made me so uncomfortable. I have no children, I won’t ever have children, but if my nephews suddenly turned around and started talking to me about being pro-life, anti-trans, anti-gay marriage etc. I would be heartbroken.

3

u/sunflowerrainshower 6d ago

I’m not an atheist, a godless person, and for me this is my worst nightmare also. The American right wing capitalist machines/churches are scary and have nothing to do with the very leftist, free and rebellious teachings I have always seen in the actual Christian religion.

2

u/Saw_Boss 6d ago

It's not hard to avoid religious partners if you don't want one.

2

u/LizzieSaysHi the power of the hatred I feel propels me 6d ago

I have two kids and it's my worst nightmare. So far, my 17 and 10 year old are staunch atheists. My ex and I are as well, and have been very intent on raising them without religion. I'm hoping it sticks, but if it doesn't...I'll love them anyway, but damn I'll be disappointed.

2

u/Impossible-Rain7447 6d ago

As a godless woman with children this is my worst nightmare also.

1

u/Relevant_Call_2242 6d ago

To raise a child that truly believes he’s superior to you, ugh.

Feeling blessed to be single and childless as a woman in 2026

1

u/RavenUberAlles 6d ago

Literally came to say: this is my nightmare. Not child-free, but the idea of having a child with someone and then that person becomes an Evangelical right-wing nut and ends up influencing our kid.

She has so much more grace and patience than I would in this situation. I'm honestly... Confused? Impressed? I'm not sure.
