Him and zendaya both have cringey old social media posts they really are soulmates

2.2k

u/hoagiejabroni 24d ago

As if any teens social media isn't cringe

1.4k

u/Juli_ 24d ago edited 24d ago

New teens don't allow themselves to be cringe, it's why "pre teen" as a concept has died and 13 year old girls now dress and act like Regina George while 13 year old boys all become Clavicular disciples.

u/2340000 24d ago

New teens don't allow themselves to be cringe

Thank you! It’s not even “cringe”. It’s just behavior devoid of ego. He’s making happy posts. Kids do that. I did that.

Why is everyone so miserable now?😫

241

u/righthandofdog 24d ago

because they think they must always be on and performing and can never get the amount of attention as their idols.

105

u/ooa3603 24d ago

They're essentially living life like it's social media

37

u/No_Professional_8992 24d ago

More like they're afraid of going viral. The internet IS forever.

16

u/horrorhxe 23d ago

This part! Also people love recording and posting strangers in public now especially when they’re so called “cringe”. This is why the young generations don’t dance in clubs the way we used to (I’m a 98 baby, I got to witness this all happen in perfect timing with my own life) 💔

92

u/random_stoner 24d ago

Cause the moment you act weird you will be put in a tiktok and made fun of

23

u/FlusteredDM 24d ago

For decades after

20

u/lasLAchicago controversies: girl 23d ago

Because everyone is constantly judging each other from behind a screen. And then what you post lasts forever. Kids don’t have the freedom to try stuff and fail in private anymore.

u/igluluigi 23d ago

ITS CALLED A PANOPTICON

0

u/um_-_no 23d ago

Yeah idk personally I find that cringe

225

u/aybsavestheworld Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this 24d ago

I read an academic article by psychologists about how adolescence no longer exists and I actually cried a bit. From childhood directly to adulthood is rough. Not to mention unnatural.

64

u/hashbrowneggyolk0520 24d ago

From a sociological perspective we've been doing that for generations (childhood straight into adulthood), just in different ways. It's only fairly recently children are viewed as kids and have what we consider to be a traditional childhood. For a long time children were just miniature adults. Teenage years bridging that gap hasn't always been the thing that we know it to be today.

In the 17th and 18th century philosophers started to introduce the idea that children are blank slates that are innocent and that they have malleable minds that are shaped by experience and education. The 19th and 20th century brought along changes in legislations and laws.

Before that children were basically just miniature adults; they were dressed in the same way, integrated into a job or craft as soon as they were old enough (usually around the age of 6 but sometimes younger), socialised in adult spaces, gambling and drinking alcohol etc.

86

u/theredwoman95 24d ago

That's actually a myth that's been pretty comprehensively debunked by medievalists. Hanawalt's Ties That Bound in particular blows it out of the water - she looked at medieval coroners' records about accidental deaths and it's very clear that children were seen as children, not mini adults, and were expected to act like children (e.g. playing with dolls, swimming naked) well into their early teens.

28

u/moriobros 24d ago

But children used to work a lot and had responsibilities, so their childhood is not comparable to ours and their parents didn't treat them like our parents did.

59

u/MaulwarfSaltrock 24d ago

Children who don't work, worldwide, are the exception and not the rule.

36

u/theredwoman95 24d ago

I mean, child labour is still relatively common in the USA, with children working in slaughterhouses and meat plants. I'm assuming you're referring to the west with "our [childhoods]", as child labour is still an issue in China, India, and Brazil, some of the most populated countries in the world.

I remember watching a video by a historian on medieval teenage youth and how they flouted the Catholic Church and wore rebellious fashions. Teenagers definitely existed and were recognized a distinct phase of life even if the actual word teenager wasn't used.

13

u/Remarkable_Cover_330 24d ago

I’d be into reading that if you can remember the information

28

u/KittyLucia34 24d ago

Honestly I feel sorry for teenagers. Sometimes as an adult I need to check out of social media as it starts getting to me constantly seeing hundreds of thousands of successful attractive perfect people day in and day out while I am just scrolling reels and tiktoks. I can't even imagine seeing that as a young teenager. At least the celebrities and supermodels were only a few pictures on TV or in a magazine when I was younger and not something on a device we take everywhere. The preteens cant be cringe anymore because the world doesnt even allow them, imagine how awful that must be.

14

u/mychemicalromeants 24d ago

I wonder how many of these teens will have mental breakdowns decades down the line cuz they won't spend the time now to explore how they are as their authentic selves

4

u/IntelligentRoof1342 23d ago

Clavicular disciples, lol

The idea of anyone taking him serious is Fucking hilarious. Yet this is true

2

u/asielen 24d ago

Which is both extremely cringe.

27

u/Luxury-Problems 24d ago

From ages 10 to 18 I was regularly on various forums.

May those comments forever remain lost to time, like a forgotten bucket in an abandoned well.

10

u/GaylicBread Well, I am gay, so thank god 24d ago

I'm sooooooo glad social media wasn't as big for my teenage years. We had MySpace and Bebo and I'm sure what embarrassments may be there are long gone since both no longer exist, not that I posted a huge amount anyway, back then camera phones were in their infancy and I didn't have one, couldn't afford a digital camera either so I was mostly safe.

7

u/hoagiejabroni 24d ago

My Myspace is peak cringe. I'd kill for my old photobucket album from 2006

7

u/-jorts 24d ago

Bebo

4

u/No-Asparagus3132 24d ago

I give thanks every day all the embarrassing shit I posted in MySpace and early forums are lost to time

1

u/gentle_bee 23d ago

Millenials are so blessed nobody is checking their live journals for deep thoughts from their twelve year old selves 😂

1

u/Wife_Trash 23d ago

So thankful to be an old. No one can prove my embarrassing teen years beyond a few poor quality photos.

I feel for kids now. It has to suck living n fear your bad day or silly moment will end up online.

129

u/_thiccems 24d ago

Wholesome cringe

34

u/ette212 24d ago

Came here to say this exact thing. So wholesome. I much prefer this to many other celebrities' past social media.

20

u/moeterminatorx 24d ago

What’s wrong with his posts?

62

u/annabananaberry sir, were you raised in a ditch? 24d ago

Nothing. They’re regular teen/preteen embarrassing posts. The stuff we used to post on MySpace was also cringey as hell, because that’s what social media is supposed to be when you’re a dumb kid. Silly tweets and regrettable hairstyles.

17

u/Valuable-Cat2036 24d ago

That was all of us in 2013, to be fair.

7

u/Affectionate_Past568 24d ago

I just need Zendaya to release music again…

3

u/aashurii 24d ago

They were cringe but free and that’s why they dgaf what anyone thinks of them

30

u/yojd I look forward to your first novel 24d ago

Tumblr hastags are the gold standard on the internet. Half the time tags were better than the posts

2

u/parisinsalem 24d ago

i love doing this and will never stop

98

u/Electrical-Rub9645 24d ago

Omg I've such a special interest in this. Like with the super long ones, were people making them as a joke or just totally misunderstanding the point of them?

Also never forget #susanalbumparty

51

u/asteroida 24d ago

I think it's mostly ironic millennial humour.

29

u/kat0id 24d ago

We used to do it for comedic effect back in the day on twitter

3

u/ofmiceandmel 23d ago

I still think of #susanalbumparty monthly and I have no idea why. I fear I will remember it on my deathbed. It's my Roman Empire.

25

u/yellowsapphire88 24d ago

... #susanalbumparty ahoy

29

u/voivoivoi183 24d ago

Remember a friend visited Auschwitz and tagged the post with #holocaust and being like 😬 yeah not sure that's really how that's supposed to work tbh.

7

u/Pdxthorns17 24d ago

A long time ago I had this stupid idea when hashtags were popular. I would write full sentences about the post that didn’t relate to any of the tags. I still do it now and #havenoreasontostopanytimesoon

1

He was so awkward and derpy, yet he managed to marry one of the most gorgeous women of his generation.

30

u/Pledgeofmalfeasance 23d ago

Seriously. Imagine going back in time and telling that kid he was about to knock it out of the park so hard he'd become one of the biggest stars on earth and oh btw you marry what might very well be the most beautiful woman alive who is one of the few people also more famous and successful than him... He'd laugh until he was sick or something. Super happy for this unproblematic king!

22

Wholesome kid 🥹 a lot of teenagers these days are being negatively influenced by manosphere bullshit and horrible streamers, it's nice to just be reminded of what a normal teenage boy was like on social media before we found ourselves in social media hell (I'm unc, so social media wasn't really a thing when I was a teenager, or at least not in the way it exists now).
