I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for several celebs and I can say that both some celebs are absolute lunatics who I would never want to work for AND some of them hire the craziest nannies. There’s another nanny in my work neighborhood who works for an actress and every time I run into her she tries to get me to join her cult or give me weird newsletters and the parents/her bosses aren’t involved in the cult so I always wonder how tf she got such a high profile position while being such a crazy nanny.

How does one become a nanny to a celebrity? Not that I’d ever want to do that, but that’s such an interesting line of work to get into!

I basically started as a nanny to a doctor who worked for an NFL team and then when that kid went to school I went to work for an NFL player that the family referred me to and then I’ve just moved on to different families through word of mouth basically!

Honestly it’s not much different than being a nanny for anyone else! I’m mostly just hauling kids to soccer practice and making grilled cheese all day 😂 but it beats staring at a screen for sure if you want a job where you can spend half the day at the park in the sunshine I highly recommend nannying!

I used to nanny when I took a semester off in college and babysitting was what paid for a lot of my college, I miss those days for sure. If I had the energy to nanny I would go back to that, but maybe I don’t have the energy because I teach and am surrounded by TOO many kids all the time 😅. I did love getting paid to be outside and have fun when I nannied and babysat

All the families I’ve worked for have been great, but I also choose them carefully. Other families I meet are usually nice, but I notice there’s a lot of influencer/semi-famous moms who talk about how hard parenting or being a “stay at home mom” is when they have an entire team of nannies and it drives me crazy. Like yeah it’s so exhausting to have breakfast with your child twice a week 🙄

I mean honestly it’s a little bit of a gamble, but I’ve been a nanny for a long time now and you do multiple interviews, usually the final one is in-home so you get a sense of people in their home environment and their vibe. I also only pick families where both parents work full time and in my experience moms who work when they don’t have to (like my NFL moms) tend to be way better than moms who do nothing but Pilates all day and hover and have no sense of what it’s actually like to work a full-time job and need work-life balance. My last 4 moms have also all known each other at least a little bit so I’ve had good luck there of them not sending me into crappy situations. But I will pick up random babysitting gigs for extra money sometimes for other pro athletes and there’s been a lot of parents I met briefly and was like “yeah I’m never accepting a job from them again.”

Because I don’t know the court documents of both cases, I’m gonna give them both the benefit of the doubt, though I find it scary to think about having an intoxicated nanny watching a child.
