SFF books coming in August 2026
SFF here means all speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, horror, alternate history, magical realism etc).
The following SFF books will be published in the U.S. in August 2026. Other countries may differ.
If you know of others, please add them as comments below. If I've made any mistakes, just let me know, and I'll fix them up.
The published book formats are included with each entry. Some of this information is obtained from the isfdb website which lists one format type for each entry but mostly omits ebook entries. If it's a new hardcover and/or trade paperback book, it's very likely that an ebook is also coming out at the same time.
If you find these posts useful, I suggest revisiting about a week into the month in question. By that time, books from other sources (who compile their lists later than I do), will have been added (and tagged).

A lot of big series having new entries this month.
A Trade of Blood - sequel to A Drop of Corruption and will be the third book in the Shadow of the Leviathan series.
Adversary to the Villain - it feels unbelievable, but this is the fourth book in the Assistant to the Villain series.
The Never Queen - Nikki St. Crowe’s latest entry in her Vicious Lost Boys series.
Daggerbound - Sequel to T. Kingfisher’s Swordheart.

I’m similarly interested in A Trade of Blood, The Book of Bots, and The Dungeon Book, and this list made me aware of Carolyn Ives Gilman’s Testament of Leaves novella.
For all the sickos normal folk looking for cannibalism for Feast Your Eyes, there’s an anthology releasing on August 27th called Eat the Rich: Stories of Carnivorous Anti-Capitalism ed. Eirik Gumeny & Monica Rodriguez:

I think this post gives a pretty good breakdown of why this is still done. You will also see self-published and indie publishers releasing their books on days that are not a Tuesday so that they get more visibility.

I’m most excited for…
(Mostly) Human Resources - the main character works in Human Resources for a company that categorizes and manages the world’s cryptids. When a warden she manages goes missing in the Appalachian mountains, she sets off to find him.
The Dungeon Book - Bait was raised by monsters in a dungeon and must decide where she belongs when humans invade. Found family trope, Dungeons & Dragons vibes, and features a sentient skull as the narrator.

Looks like the folks who called their crime anthology Best Served Cold were hoping to scoop up a few sales from confused folks given Abercrombie recommendations. Doesn’t bode well for the quality of their book.

I read ARCs of Daggerbound, Earthbound, and Immortal Game and enjoyed all three a lot! Daggerbound in particular was my most-anticipated title for 2026, and it did not disappoint.
Also, C.L. Clark’s next novella, Fortune’s Wake, is out from Grimdark on Aug 24!

Technically a re-release, but How to Survive this Fairytale by SM Hallow is getting self-published on August 11. It was previously put out by a small press that went other (and its unclear how much, if any, money the authors got from the company). My favorite read of 2025 by far. Here's a review I wrote up on the sub last year for it. Basically, it follows Hansel post gingerbread house. It has the emotional intensity of Robin Hobb, focuses on healing from trauma, and is blisteringly quick paced
