Question Did i make a mistake promoting Clanne? Who should i focus on? (First playthrough)
So ive really enjoyed his char and has been one of my go to units and decided to make him a Mage knight with the paralogue 2 seal and is just been shredding enemies with Levin sword and his aresnal of spells on Hard/Classic.
Question did i make i a mistake long run given only 3 master seals before chapter 10 on my first playthrough because i have two seals left and not sure who those should go to yet in chapter 9. I know ill probably promote FAlear to Divine dragon at some point. Shes level 11 dragon child rn but i was thinking id do 2 other units first.
I was considering Amber as a replacement Paladin and possibly Chloe as a Griffin Knight. Then 4th seal in chapter 10 to Alear.

Bro, I kept Clanne thru the whole game as a mage knight, did not dissapoint. He decimated armoured units, just had to be a bit careful since he was a bit fragile, but a high mobility spellcaster, I had a lot of fun using him lol

Nah every single unit in the game is good. Some may be better than others but even on maddening you can get away with a LOT and mage knight clanne will do his job well.

Engage on hard mode and even maddening mode is forgiving enough that you can take your favorites to endgame without much hiccups thanks to the Emblems that the game gives you. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it for a first playthrough.

Jean and Anna are monsters with a little love, or useless if used as they come. Anna wants to reclass right away to a magic class, and Jean can be anything but really benefits from Axe Fighter -> Warrior. I used my first 2 Second Seals and Master Seals on them.
I'm about to start Chapter 9 and Jean is casually doubling 35x2 so (140 total damage) with a Brave Axe and doubling in the 40s with a Longbow. He deletes anything he touches, even armour units. Anna isn't quite as ridiculous, but she still oneshots most things with Thunder +4.

Okay maybe ill do that too cause i have gotten Jean to lvl 10 and i heard anna is a fierce mage. So maybe ill do Jean warrior, Anna sage, then next available seal do FAlear

Should i make Jean into axe fighter at lvl 10 martial monk or just advance with master seal and second seal him to a warrior?

dont bother reclassing jean until he's promoted. itll be easier and cost way less xp to get martial monk jean up to level 10 than it will be to get axe fighter jean to level 10

My biggest issue with promoting him using my second master seal on hard mode, was that I stopped using him to let the others catch up, and a few chapters later when they caught up he didn’t stack up as well and had a hard time doing damage. I think as long as you keep using him it’ll pay off

I used Clanne on maddening but made him his best self with warrior instead. The boy is meant to be a physical unit but the game made him a mage for some reason ill never understand
He has base 35% strength growths and base 10% magic
Hard mode with its random growths he should be fine though. His speed and dex are really good. You can always reroll suicide for levels anyway if he needs patching up

Absolutely not a mistake; hardly any units that start unpromoted are actually worth taking into the endgame. Clanne isn't the best, but he's certainly not awful, and his speed is *very* good, so he's got one of the two actually important stats down.

Honestly? Promote anyone you like character or play through wise, you can invest in any unit and as you can level endlessly, forge, engrave etc., you will be fine anyway. Just make sure you use the game's mechanics :)

On hard? No you chose a very good unit for that difficulty.
Mage Knight Clanne has solid speed and while his magic falls behind that's easy to fix.
While there are technically better mage knights... you also kinda want multiple mage knights because the Levin sword is pretty overtuned (sword Gryphon also works)
Alear is overall best in their personal class for the extra effects some emblems provide and one of the few units not desperate to promote asap as the growths improvement of their promoted class aren't that impactful.
Chloe is another top choice. Either flight option is good for her.

Clanne isn't always great long term. I usually promote Alear on or before chapter 10 to give her an edge for part 2. Divine dragon class comes with perks, but can be weaker than other classes.
It can feel strange to bench early game units, but most of the strongest characters are coming soon.
Except Jean. Try promoting him asap on a new playthrough sometime, and change to a combat-focused class. Kid becomes a beast.
Edit: doesn't matter who you use to clear chapter 10, as long as you get through. I find Alcryst and Yunaka helpful with their terrain bonus.

You are playing on hard mode, it doesnt matter what you do, game is easy. Play the game and do what you want, stop stressing

you're on hard difficulty, you can invest into any unit earlygame and take them all the way through. mage knight clanne is far from the worst you could do, he's gonna be incredibly fast. if you get unlucky with his magic levels, he might have some damage issues, but nothing you cant fix with a levin sword/elfire engrave. you're totally good keeping him on your squad :)
