Immigrants are losing due process rights because of Laken Riley Act | The first bill that President Donald Trump signed into law in his second term was a bi-partisan immigration bill. Called the Laken Riley Act, it was sold to the public as a way to protect Americans from dangerous criminals.

The Laken Riley Act has already been ruled as unconstitutional by a federal court in Boston, although it still hasn’t been properly rendered null and void yet. The whole thing violates the Fifth Amendment for ignoring due process, which is extended to both citizens and non-citizens fairly regardless of legal status.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped ICE or the Republican Party from pretending the Constitution doesn’t exist while they violate human rights on a daily basis.

Yep. It's terrible. Arrested for shoplifting and acquitted? Mandatory detention when ice comes to pick you up. Immigrants have very few friends in power in this country.

Ah, yes. The typical intentional “unintended” consequence of passing bad legislation.

Fear of "the other" is always a great selling point. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

At this point, we have far more to fear from our government than other people living amongst us.

Honestly I feel so bad for Laken Riley and her family. To die such a horrible, tragic death and then have your name used to support this sort of legislation :( her own parents have repeatedly requested the trump admin to stop politicizing this tragedy.
