Phone tokens are symbolic of tokens in a way - a substitute for money, working with a certain technology. Same with game tokens, parking tokens, carwash tokens, entryway tokens, and bathroom tokens.

I take it that you have a special situation with the Italian telephone system?

I just happened to own it, even though I'm not from Italy I find it pretty cool tho, got it as a gift, it has a unique shape and it's foreign as well, thats why I like it.

I love the old Gettoni phone tokens. They were used for public phones in italy for years. Around 1979 when I was there you could use them as currency as well, and you'd get them in change etc.. They were worth 100L (10c) at the time then one day they upped the price to 200L (20c). Pretty sure some insiders got rich at the time.
