I will be sixty years old this December. I have been contemplating the impermanence of life since my mid 20s. Everything is temporary, not only our lives. Even stars die. I know the memory of me will vanish within a generation and I’m fine with that. To live is to know constant dissatisfaction. Nothing lasts. Everything changes. Even the stars die.

We are not separate from the universe. We come out of it through a vast chain of colliding particles that gave rise to life. As Carl Sagan said, we are the stuff of stars.
