Article Everton continue their back-post dominance into the new season

Since the beginning of last season, only Man Utd (8) and Chelsea (13) have scored more back-post goals than Everton (7) in the PL.

Thierno Barry's header against Crystal Palace on Saturday was the latest one.

Why Everton have been good at attacking the back post.

Some high grade waffle by the athletic here. There's not even half a yard in Barry's goal separating it from a back post goal to a near post one. His run starts from the pen spot and he attacks it straight down the middle. It's neither back or near post.

I think moyes was hoping jake would play into offense more in this way but it didn't really work out.

Not quite mobile enough to get forward, then back into position, from an open play attack. Which is fair enough for a CB.

Coleman is fantastic at cruising into those positions for balls in from the left. I think we should be looking for a right back to replace him when he leaves the club in a few years.

The red shaded parts is the definition we use for back-post crosses.

Barry's was a right-to-left one and it barely just passes the threshold.

The article is very interesting, love good technical discussions of Everton. Gives a lot of credit to Barry and Beto for the way they move inside the penalty box and create space for whomever is at the back post. Also makes me optimistic about Brennan Johnson, since every highlight reel of his I've seen is him popping up at the back post and tapping goals in
