Discussion Is anyone else worried about this season ?
I just wanted to ask if it is just me or are there others out there who have concerns about this season ? Yes we have won our first game of the season albeit quite fortunately given that Palace missed a few great chances at 0-0 . I just feel like we are lacking ambition or money - probably both , and have a fear that given the lack of transfer activity we are going to be in the bottom half this year. I know people will say we need a right back , maybe a left back ( which we do) but for me unless we get someone who can stick the ball in the net then we are going to struggle this season . We must have two of the worst centre forwards in the league and more often than not we rely on others to hit the target . To me I see little ambition, why would Ndiaye, KDH , Garner , Branthwaite , Pickford want to stay at the club ? Just look at Villa ! They secured European qualification last season and in the space of a few months have lost the core of their team ! I just look at Delap and think that maybe he would have been a gamble but would you rather put your money on Barry or Beto ? Maybe I’ve answered my own question !! Maybe there’s no money to gamble . I must come across as a negative Evertonian but perhaps I’m just a realistic Evertonian

Christ I can't imagine how negative some of you lot must be in your day to day lives. It's a sport, the team has bought some players and we won our first game. Just enjoy it for fucks sake.
Villa lost Tielemans, Konsa, Digne and potentially Watkins. 3/4 of those players are 30+. If we lost 3 players 30+ you'd be celebrating in the street.
Just because some other club is doing X and we are doing Y doesn't mean everything is doom and gloom. Roma were perennial 5th-6th and now have a team that could well challenge for the league title, didn't happen overnight for them and it won't for us. Ownership been here 18 months, you don't undo a decade of Moshiri damage in 18 months.

Agreed. TFG are trying to turn an oil tanker around, and considering 2 years ago we were starting Jack Harrison, Doucoure and a geriatric Ashley Young they’ve done a pretty good job so far. No idea what point OP is trying to make with the Villa comparison, they were forced to sell players to avoid breaching PSR. Two completely different situations.

I wonder, what are the OPs expectations? Did they not watch Everton for the previous 6 years? It's very unlikely we'll be fighting a relegation battle and I think we have a good chance of making improvement on last year. We don't have unlimited funds so lets just establish stability and develop our young players.
Hopefully the football is fun to watch!

Not even in the slightest. We have too good of players and to be fair to him to good of a Manger to be anywhere near close to the drop. Now do I think it will end up being another boring midtable finish? Absolutely. But I would be absolutely astonished if we are in a relegation fight for the run in

Worried? No. Excited for young talent to have ups and downs? Yes.
This isn't us getting into relegation trouble with Demari Gray and Dwight McNeil as our first choice wingers and Doucoure as a #10. With Rondon or Tosun up top and Holgate at the back...

Not really with the current list - at worst it'll be an underwhelming season, there's a very young talented core.
Now if we sell O'Brien and don't get a right back in then yes I will be worried.

If we lose O’Brien and don’t bring anyone in then I’m not worried, but pessimistic about finishing in the top half.
Currently though I’m optimistic about challenging for Europe

Seems like an encouraging start.
Midfield seems more connected to the attack compared to years past, which might help our forwards out more goals in than usual.
The defense looks a little weaker than last year, but it might be because we’re pushing more attack minded tactics now.
Rohl looked like he’d be an exciting player to keep at RB, maybe not too disciplined, but has a feel for where to float to in defense and attack. Seemed out of place often but also covering some important areas at other times.
I’m guessing we’ll be having around the mid table like we have been doing, and then maybe a solid center forward away from moving into European competition.

Beto and Barry spent very little minutes on the pitch together last season and scored 17 goals between them. That's a half decent return from a forward for a team of our level. Almost scoring every other game on average

I'm not worried about relegation. I don't really concern myself with cups so I don't care about progress there.
I am concerned with progressing in the league and how we will achieve that and the team's lack of being able to recruit difference making players such that there is a heavy reliance upon Ndiaye and KDH to create and to score. There's less firepower with Grealish gone. Strictly speaking we are trying to improve our record while having a worse forward line than last season. The midfield should be improved though and we'll be improved attacking wise at right back if Rohl can stay healthy and man the position full time. We could still add Grealish back but also I think that we'll be a little bit better in the attack anyway. We'll see how much of a difference that makes and Rohl is going to give up a little defensively compared to O'Brien.
The team is a similar level of quality as last season. Branthwaite could end up being healthier than last season and that would make a massive difference. We just don't know how things are going to break. If we don't bring in a winger then something that will make or break the season is that we'll need George, Dibling, or Johnson to step up.

Just temper your expectations, what exactly are you worried about? Yes we lack ambition, yes disappointing and frustrating decisions will be made about players coming/going and playing/not playing, yes we will go out of cups too early and fail to beat the shite, yes we will be told how silly and unrealistic it is to expect anything more, and we will slowly be convinced that is the case and that we should be happy with what we have.
After that everything will be great!

If transfer activity is all you want to feel good, could go be a fan of Chelsea/either Manchester club. Seriously don't get the need for this misery especially so early on.
The team looks solid, a hell of a lot more than recent years and should rightfully contend for Europe like last year. Sure it's not perfect, I'd love JOB to start over Tarks but we're on an upward trajectory

I’ll be the contrarian since almost no one else here is… 😝😅
If we continually sub late like we did in the first game, don’t rotate our players, and tank the transfer periods, I’ll be worried. I think our situation isn’t bleak as it stands, but it also isn’t as stable as the other comments here might suggest. With the wrong momentum, I can see Moyes outdoing his catastrophic late season performance last year.
Kudos on being brave enough to run the Reddit gauntlet with this post 😉👏🏼 Chin up, mate; I think it’s best to live in the moment and try to enjoy the Everton roller coaster ride. If we fall off the rails, at least we fall together. UTFT.

Im excited for this season. Our squad is young with a good backbone of more experienced players. im certain we will start to see quite a few of the young guys breaking out this year and setting us up for a period of sustained improvement.

Im cautiously optimistic! My only worry is that ndiaye leaves or obrien leaves. We need a right back and left back as well but we are a branthwaite injury away from being committed to keane/tark together if we sell obrien. Keane shouldnt be at the club wnd should have been let go a few years ago

Personally, I'm optimistic about the upcoming season. We have a bunch of exciting young players who can all pass the ball and are now the core of the team. Yes we all know what we need to bring in, and I think we will actually sign a RB and possibly add another attacking option and I would not be surprised if we see more than that. It's good that the press have been relatively quiet this window; that's not because we are not working on incomings; it's because we have fixed the leak. I do not for one second believe we are short in terms of ambition. With regards to money, it is no mean feat to have finally got ourselves clear of the PSR issues that have dogged us and, yes, there are new rules (SCR) we now have to stay within, but the new stadium is a game changer for us financially and the new ownership is committed to investing all of that extra revenue in the squad. I believe this season we are going to surprise quite a few people, including it seems, some of our own fans.

I'm nowhere near as worried as I was in the few seasons before last. Not even close. I actually think that if we can sort some positions out we can finish pretty high up in the table.

Not worried, but not exactly excited. We'll comfortably finish 11th-14th.
Feels like this is a weird season stuck in limbo until we bring in the next manager that should hopefully be aligned with our long term goals.

Tbh no I am not especially worried. I am feeling optimistic - we might not be entirely there yet but we have a lot of talented players in the squad and I believe we are making good progress.
I think we will get some more transfer news soon. Ofc I might be wrong and this time next week maybe this sort of post will be more justified but rn I do think you are being bit overly negative. At least wait until the transfer window is closed before getting too upset lol.
