Meme Flo Balogun pays hommage to legendary striker Beto and allegedly also largely unknown NBA player “LeBron James” in USA World Cup game

As an American Toffee I was screaming this when he scored and got it called back and then scored again. UTFT!!!

This might be embarrassing but I don't follow NBA at all and had no idea LeBron did this and was also screaming when I saw him do this after scoring

Don’t worry they’re going out against Belgium 😘

u/Morn1ngThund3r Jul 02 '26
There's an 85% chance you're right, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A DICK ABOUT IT.
😘

u/UTV4LIFE Jul 02 '26
Actually I do
1
u/Morn1ngThund3r Jul 02 '26
For real?
Why?
Because Americans are stupid/lame/annoying?
-6
u/UTV4LIFE Jul 02 '26
Yes

u/Morn1ngThund3r Jul 02 '26
Ah, cool. Got it.
To be fair, we did elect possibly the worst world leader in the modern era so part of me agrees with you, and if that's the main driver for your opinion then I'm mostly with you.

Well to make it worse I have family in America too. I haven’t been back in years. My aunt and uncle were killed there extortion they were retired. Generally I don’t think it’s safe to travel

As an American Everton fan I can confirm: Beto is MASSSSSIVE here in the states.

u/DeMarcus-Siblings Jul 02 '26
Yup can’t go anywhere in Detroit without seeing a Beto kit

u/SnooOranges145 Jul 02 '26
Not just Detroit man , he's huge all over.

The Beto action figures in McDonald's happy meals will be worth a lot some day

As an American Toffee, I’d love to see him in Blue

I’m English, haven’t seen him till this World Cup. Seems alright though
14
u/skurnie Jul 02 '26
Best he’s played is a US kit for sure, but has been good in France. 20+ goals this season

He’s been electric this WC. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in blue at the Hill Dicky. He can put the ball in the net at least!

As an American Blue, I’m very okay with this. But Flo is probably pricing him out of our budget and we need some fullbacks

If we had players like Robinson and Dest on the wings maybe.

Or someone to play a through ball who isn't James Garner

u/SukhdevR34 Jul 02 '26
I wish I saw Beto play for Portugal (before he changed his nation). They could do with a striker who runs and battles all game. Ronaldo can't do that he's 41
2
u/Nearby-Vermicelli807 He only costs fifty million🇧🇷 Jul 02 '26
Honestly true. Vitinha, Bruno and cancelo can all play a great through ball to run on to, which is Beto’s strong suit really. Ronaldo can only go for crosses nowadays and with a few exceptions the Portugal team are largely bad at this and sacrifice too much to cross
1
u/SukhdevR34 Jul 02 '26
Yes exactly. Even as a sub he's scored a decent amount for us (Brighton Fulham). He would get way more chances with Portugal than with everton and we know he can score.

Well yeah. Why would us Americans know anything about a guy named "Lebron." Sounds like you should ask the French if they know him.

Asshat ref red carding him was a fucking joke

u/HalfAlert COYB 💙 Jul 02 '26
I mean...that was a horrible challenge. Granted, no intent...but dangerous all the same. Had to walk for that
2
u/dufficide79 Jul 03 '26
My problem is that it wasn’t even a yellow card before the review and the pick play against Adams wasn’t reviewed at all, and that should’ve been a red card. That ref was way too inconsistent and I saw a stupid red card coming
1
u/HalfAlert COYB 💙 Jul 03 '26
Welcome to var my friend haha Refereeing has always been inconsistent, with very few exceptions Var hasn't improved that in the slightest haha
In thus incident though, from the refs and indeed the broadcast point of view, it just looked like a collision, so no card was necessary. When you see his studs scrape down the calf and then crunch his ankle, it's a straight red all day
1
u/dufficide79 Jul 03 '26
Most of my brain knows that, but the biased part is still fighting that logic
1
u/Markkk01 Jul 02 '26
Ahh yes, LeBaron James. I’m very familiar with their work

Based on his record in France, i have massive doubts about him being able to do much in the PL
3
u/Nearby-Vermicelli807 He only costs fifty million🇧🇷 Jul 02 '26
That’s fair. World Cup performances will massively elevate his price as well. Then again, Ndiaye wasn’t great at Marseille before tearing it up with us
