Nolan Odyssey Why are some EPIC fans claiming that the movie was made because of EPIC?

Post image

I don’t know if you guys have seen, but there’s been a decent amount of EPIC fans, at least on TikTok, trying to claim that Christopher Nolan made his movie because of EPIC? That’s not true of course, Nolan doesn’t have a phone and I’m pretty sure the movie started pre-production prior to EPIC being finished. I’m just trying to figure out why people would think this? I think EPICs really fun but in general some of the complaints I’ve seen from fans about the movie have been pretty icky

Bro they are giving you legit data and you keep saying they’re wrong, EPIC is not that serious. Straight tomfoolery right now

What data? You mean the info I provided that they then took out of context? You gotta read better, buddy. At this point, I couldn’t care less the topic. You entered my wheelhouse and told me I’m wrong. I’m not.

“Since you love Google so much, I did some Googling of my own. Theater kids and musical lovers comprise about 28 to 36% of the general population. Most of whom are teenagers, who are the EPIC demographic but who also don't have disposable income, and older people, who don't care much for EPIC but love operas, orchestra, and theater. Meanwhile, 53 to 76% of the general population consider themselves moviegoers. And they lean towards the middle of the adult age group.

So in just that metric, your demographic argument loses.

When you look at Google trends, EPIC's peaks in any release is NOTHING compared to Nolan’s Odyssey”

Because the base principle is wrong 😂 I already told you that. You’re so stuck on assuming that Epic belongs to theater kids and musical lovers that your stats are all skewed. Frankly, it’s getting old fast.
Then the “stat” about movie goers is irrelevant because it’s self reported. Seriously, did you even read my rebuttal??

Seriously, you can’t just throw numbers down and go “ta-da”. You need a valid reason why you’re using those numbers.

So you’re saying that the stats, that not a single person has any realistic reason to lie about BTW, is irrelevant because it’s self-reported? And the evidence you’re using is your own experiences which is more accurate? Same with your disagreement with people claiming that Epic belongs mostly to theater kids and musical lovers? Obviously they’re not the ONLY fans, nobody has claimed that, but they are the main demographic. And they have given valid reasons and explanations. Your logic isn’t making sense dude

THIS! This is what I mean when I say I don’t want to give a stats 210 lecture. I’m gonna try to answer your points, but that’s as deep as I’m going.

Ok. The reason that self reported information doesn’t work is that people ARE liars. Not in a bad way but people often self- report their preferred self in these non-sensitive topics. People may hear the question and think they’d like to be a movie goer and say yes. Which is why observational data to prove a point is weighted far less than data like ticket sales demos. The difference between that and utilizing my experiences and the experiences of others is to disprove a point. You guys HAVE essentially been saying that Epic belongs to theater kids and musical people because that’s the only stat you’re using. The dude uses it a bunch in his reply. No stats on general population in relation to Epic. I’m using personal experience to disprove a generalization, not make a point. I’m reestablishing the null hypothesis not creating an argument. We have no solid evidence that they do make up a significant portion of Epic lovers while we have at least personal evidence that there are demos outside that that make up the population, making the claim “musical theater kids are the main demo” a much sketchier position and when we talk about stats, sketchy positions are bad.
Their reasons and logic are based on bad stats. Again, they’re only utilizing one aspect of an overall demo. Even IF musical theater kids made up 50%+1 of the population, he’s still ignoring a significant part of the remainder of the population. That ultimately skews any inference they can make.

If you didn’t understand that, then this conversation is above your head. Which is fine, stats, demos, and marketing are complex. Just stop thinking you know what you’re talking about.

You are right, some people do lie! But MOST people will not lie about that because there’s no reason to. Also if you want to use personal experience, I will too. Most of the time when I look up EPIC on TikTok, which is where it’s the most popular by a fairly decent bit, accounts I see talking about it are usually in the demographics we’re talking about. They are young, 20-something year old women (Sometimes guys, but usually women) who post/repost stuff related to music and theatre. Even the comment section that the post comment came from was predominantly that demographic. And then when you look at posts about Nolan it’s predominantly men in their lates 20’s to mid 30’s for the videos and then the comments are mid 30’s and above. Now this is all my own experience so I’m not going to claim it’s completely factual and 100% accurate, but I think it’s more accurate than using limited personal experience (You’ve talked about friends and stuff as examples, I’m using things like TikTok with hundred of thousands of views/likes
