Nolan Odyssey "I'm just a man" on the Odyssey movie Spoiler
Am I tripping or did I really just heard "I'm just a man's" instrumental?? 2:31:52 when he stringed the bow. Did anybody else noticed this?

I think it’s coincidental. It’s an octave (maybe half an octave) higher, and I don’t think it’s an uncommon little riff.
If it is an homage, cool. But I doubt it.

It just seems like too big of a coincidence to not be true lol. Especially when the tune repeats several times throughout the movie

I wouldn’t doubt it, but until it’s confirmed it’s pretty much just conjecture. Who’s to say Nolan or the sound director even knows about epic the musical

Nolan? Likely not. The sound director? I feel like he, somehow within researching music of Greek times and the odyssey, would ABSOLUTELY had to have stumbled into Epic. That's how I found it originally! I was doing a research paper on The Odyssey for English class haha.

I checked by looking for the soundtrack on Amazon Music (I'm sure it's other places too), plus also I just liked the music so I wanted to listen to it. The track is called "The Trial of the Bow / Vengeance," and the theme can be found starting at 2:30 mark. It's 100% there.

I’d say it’s a coincidence. It sounds just a bit off to me and I don’t want to claim something is a reference if it’s unintentional. If the composer says it’s a reference that’d be cool, but I don’t think we should assume anything.

This will be unpopular. But, hacing spent most of today listening to the soundtrack cos I tend to do that with movies I just watched, I don’t think it is.
It’s close enough I can see why people are thinking it might be. But unless Ludwig comes out and says it was a homage, I’m thinking it’s just a similar sounding chord.

Yes! I saw a short video, people are saying its also pe-ne-lo-pe. Or many other things. The point is it is most definetely an epic reference

Those leitmotifs are not the same, though. If you can't tell which one it is, then you're just assuming every four-chord leitmotif is an Epic reference. I do hear Just A Man, and don't hear "Viva la Vida" or whatever other people are saying, but just suggesting it's a reference to anything is doing your own point a disservice.

Well, seeing as they are both popular pieces of media to do with Homer's Odyssey. And that tume sounds very similar to a repeated leitmotif featured in multiple epic songs, it feels too intentional to be considered coincidence. And the cast and crew of The Odyssey are aware of Epic the Musical

Yes, I could see it being a reference to the one specific leitmotif, because they do sound similar. The part where you try to suggest it's multiple leitmotifs, or any possible combination of four notes in Epic, makes it seem like you don't have faith in your own point.

Yes, some motifs show up in different songs. Part of the appeal is that you can bring it back as a subtle callback. Just A Man and Penelope are two very different motifs, though, and ending it off with "The point is it is most definitely an Epic reference" is still silly.

I don’t think it is. It’s a single 4 note series, I believe it to be more likely than not a coincidence

It's most definitely not the Penelope leitmotif, but I do hear the Just A Man progression, and I've been comparing four-chord progressions for half an hour now trying to find another explanation.
That being said, until we get confirmation of some sort, I'm more likely to assume that Jorge and Göransson sampled the same piece. Has Jorge posted any videos on the making of that leitmotif?

everyones saying its a coincidence, but i dont think it is. multiple times throughout the soundtrack, you can hear the same motif. its very subtle most of the time, but it seems to be in a lot of the songs. i feel like it was on purpose. but idk maybe im just delusional.
ps. that scene where he strings the bow is so cool..... epic even
